The new season begins...not that anyone cares.

I care! It's been fun seeing snippets of the preseason. I'm totally ready to get back to hockey season.

First period is what you would expect. Pretty tight but we got out of it with a 1-0 lead

We were worse that period but managed to take a 2-1 lead. They scored to go up but it was, rightfully, rules goalie int. We look slow on D and are very sloppy on O.

Got the win and here's my "expert" analysis of the team. They are the same team as last year

No better, no worse. sigh.....

Their season will depend on health.

You may not be wrong. Carter's comments all game long alluded to how fast Columbus was/is. Boldy/JEE were great but the rest of the team was "ok". They may sneak in but it'll be 1 and done, at best.

From what I have read....they are hoping for: 1) Health, 2) Better PK from Lauko/Trenin, 3) Better GT....and 4) Improvement from Rossi, Boldy, Khusnutdinov, and Ohgren with hopefully their draft pick (Zeev Buium) joining late in the season to give them a lift.....

Plenty of Ifs, ands, buts, and periods.

I will say that the PP looked light years better than has the past couple of years.

Having Kirill and Boldy together gives us 2 snipers on PP1 and they are good at retrievals and keeping the puck in the zone. I think they had one PP last night where they were on the ice for the full 2 minutes.

WOW. One of the worst "goals" I've ever seen just went against the Wild. PP goal for Seattle on a call that should have been a Wild PP. I have no idea what they think they saw. On the ensuing PP one of the most obvious kicking motion goals you'll ever see is confirmed by the league

Yeah that was pure BS for sure. And that PP gave them some life and they have controlled play ever since......

Ekker left after taking an elbow to the nose and it looked like he was cut on the nose. I hope they get him stitched up and ready for the 3rd period. We just aren't same without him taking regular shifts.

So we get 1 point tonight. I expect that will be as good as it gets many nights this year.

It's time to set the Flowers career out the sunset. He was pretty bad all night long. Mentor at this point. No sense in starting him.

Yup, I prefer to see Gus or Wally in net staying calm and letting the puck hit them instead of Flower flopping all over and getting beat over the glove shoulder every time. He has had a great career, but it's time to let the young guys take the load.

Naturally, after the game Brodin gets an apology from the ref for the terrible call......
Looks like it's going to be another long year of terrible officiating in the NHL.

I want a phone call directly from Bettman apologizing for the kicking motion goal they allowed. Mostly so I can yell at him for being an idiot but also, that was not a legal goal

I really wanted that goal to be called as a kicking one, but honestly, on the close-up replay, it actually looked like his foot turned the OTHER direction at the moment the puck hit his skate. I think that was the right call.

But the umps putting a Wild player in the penalty box when it was a Kraken who committed the foul - that was bad. Especially since the Kraken scored on that unearned power play. Without that score we would have won in regulation.

You're wrong and a childless cat lad....errr. Sorry. I forget we're actually allowed to have differing opinions in 2024 without getting nasty

My issue with it was (and i'm going off memory alone now) his stick was on the other side of his body. He had no way of tipping that without the use of right skate. He didn't, necessarily, "kick at it" but to your point he did change his skate angle. It was pretty subtle but, IMO, it was 100% on purpose.

BTW - what a dumb rule on KK's non-goal at the end of the first half. I had no idea that was the rule. I assumed it was like BBall where the ball/puck just had to be off the hands/stick as it was heading on net before the buzzer.

Spurgeon hurt already after 2 games.....
Maybe Flower can get him to retire with him. Spurgeon is another one that has had a great career but it's time.

I love the efficiency but 2 goals on 5 shots with 12 to go in the 2nd period is not winning hockey

We have been playing with the lead almost the entire season so far, but have not been able to finish very well. Maybe tonight is the night.....
