ORIGINAL: twinsfan Are there just no rules about stepping into the paint early on free throws? Gobert missed one, and the overhead camera showed a Warrior stepping into the paint waaaaaay early. Golden State gets the rebound. No penalty called. What the hell is this? Are there any concrete rules on FTs? Ant steps over the line before ball touches rim on every FT attempt and it isn't called. But if you tried to miss purposely and go into the lane early they call it. One of the most frustrating things in all of sports. Players can go in the lane after the ball is released. But the shooter must wait until it hits the rim. Yeah. I meant to say they went into the lane before the ball was even released. Dunno. I hadn’t noticed that. The refs probably give some slack, because most of the time it doesn’t result in an advantage and most of the free throws are made anyway. Nobody wants a violation called on a fraction of a second violation that results in no competitive advantage.
