Howell was pretty great against the Eagles in 2023.

@PHI. L, 31-34 (OT). 29/41 (71%), 290 Yards, 1 TD, 0 INT. 6 Carries, 40 Yards.

PHI. L, 31-38. 39/52 (75%), 397 Yards. 4 TDs, 1 INT.

I think we’ve done pretty well, considering the limited number of picks we have.

Hopefully he'll be a good backup QB. In a way we picked him up during the draft, so he's almost like another draft pick. A good draft day play for an experienced backup QB.

I'd love to get Devon Neal if he's still available.

We are set up to be a run first offense if KOC can control himself.

I see Will Howard, QB Ohio state, is still available. We could draft him with one of our remaining picks. Vikes had shown interest in him a while back.

So much for that idea.

I don't know. This draft feels terrible. To be expected I suppose. I hope our free agents pan out decently. Maybe next year we can have a more normal draft.

Really?

For how few picks we had, I'm really happy with the results.

We got a guy who should be a Day 1 starter at LG, a guy who could be our 3rd WR for the next 4 years and a freak project for Flores to develop.

We will see. I don't see it. I see maybe an average guard at best.

I'm curious... what makes you think that?
I don't watch college football so I'd have to defer to others.

However his story seems solid

allowed only 5 sacks in 1,293 pass blocking snaps during his college career at Ohio State
i believe NONE of those were at guard
he had the athleticism to kick out to tackle when needed

right there i'm in

and honestly... if he turns out to be a solid average guard... this line could still be really good

That's what I was thinking: isn't an average guard a huge improvement?

Kobe King is a solid lb.

Looks like a prototypical ILB. Big thumper against the run.

Yeah. He’s one of those old school Penn St. backers. He’ll probably be a special teamer for a while before he gets a chance.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic has King as the #8 linebacker in this year’s draft class, placing a fourth-round grade on him, so it seems the Vikings are getting a bit of a steal here. Here’s what Brugler has to say about King:

quote:

A two-year starter at Penn State, King was the Mike linebacker in former defensive coordinator Tom Allen’s 4-2-5 base scheme and rarely came off the field (third-most defensive snaps for the Nittany Lions in 2024). His production and impact improved each season, and his presence in the middle of the field was a key reason why Penn State ranked No. 7 in total defense. With his violent play style, there is nothing passive about the way King plays downhill — he relies on his eyes, timing and physicality to muck up the run game. He is an adequate athlete in coverage and often finds himself in striking distance, but his lack of on-ball production reflects his struggles to impact the catch point. Overall, King will be targeted by offenses in coverage, but he fills quickly and powerfully at contact with the skill set to be a useful run defender. He projects as a throwback, early-down NFL linebacker with special teams potential.

IMO any objectivity gets you to ... this is a sub-par draft.

Did we do a good job with the small number of opportunities we had? Maybe. That's a wait and see proposition.

I actually really liked the Jackson pick. Nothing else impressed me – I won't be surprised if we find more players that stick around out of UDFA, than our last four picks.

We got Howell for less than a 5th round pick but not sure who got the better end of the deal, Seattle or us. Another wait and see.

I don't think we screwed it up, the issue was showing up at the draft with four picks.

It will take miraculous luck to look back on this draft as a good one.

I like the top three picks. I think all three will help and contribute.

Sub par is a good description as they used up a lot of resources in 2024

I actually like the pick in the 1st. But we have never been good at developing interior lineman in at least a decade maybe more. Sometimes I wonder if we have s coaching problem in that area during these last 2 eras. I liked the pick from Penn St. Truth be told we were never going to have much this year. The free agents will tell the story.

something interesting about all five of our draft selections:

they're all seniors
stayed at the same school all four years

Hilarious:

Will Howard will make less money in the NFL than he did at Ohio State.

Chew on that.
