I'm hoping for Ivisic from Illinois. He could neutralize Holmgren, and Gobert is getting old.

By "neutralize Holmgren" do you mean make Chet an extra half step before blowing past him?

You clearly did not watch much Fighting Illini basketball. He's a really good defender. Not a great rebounder for his size, but that will come.

He's a sloth.

He's a poor rim protector and he has no ability to defend in space.

He can shoot and pass some, but not well enough to compensate for his inability to defend and rebound.

He's not going to be drafted.

You beat me to it. Guys who aren't good enough to play in the NBA tend to stay in college, get their degree, get a career and play pick up games at the Y.

Any 7 footer with even modest ability will get a shot with somebody. Whether they make it through summer ball and training camp is another matter.

There’s always international ball. Still a good gig. I’d do it. As a young man I’d go anywhere in the world to get paid to play basketball. Even if it’s not the NBA millions.

I'm coming around on a Durant deal if it happens. He has a lot more left in the tank on both ends than I realized:

----------------

Best Defensive Field Goal Percentage (DFG%) For The 2024-25 NBA Regular Season (Min. 500 Total DFGA) :

1. Amen Thompson — 40.7%
2. Kevin Durant — 41.1%
3. Jaime Jaquez Jr. — 41.4%
4. Ausar Thompson — 41.6%
5. Jalen Williams — 41.7%
6. Jaren Jackson Jr. — 41.9%
6. Lu Dort — 41.9%
8. Kristaps Porzingis — 42.0%
9. Miles Bridges — 42.2%
10. Kyshawn George — 42.3%

-------------

FG% Of All-Star Caliber Players When Guarded By Kevin Durant In The 2024-25 NBA Regular Season :

1. Jimmy Butler — 0.0% (0-4)
2. Nikola Jokic — 16.7%
3. Ja Morant — 20.0%
3. Stephen Curry — 20.0%
5. Anthony Edwards — 36.4%
6. James Harden — 37.5%
6. Kawhi Leonard — 37.5%

How Underrated Of A Defensive Season Did Kevin Durant Have?

------------------

He's going to only play in 70% of your games, but when he does play, he's elite on offense:

Kevin Durant after tearing his Achilles and leaving the Warriors:

Regular season (274 games)
27.9 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 5.2 APG on 53/41/88

Playoffs (31 games)
30.4 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 4.9 APG on 49/37/88

---------------

Suns were the worst team in the NBA without him. Durant missed 20 games. The Suns won 3 of them.

From Chris Hine's book Ant: The Incredible Journey of NBA Rising Star Anthony Edwards

"I'm not trying to put him as a little bro, but it felt like that. When you wake up in the morning and your little bro got the most energy. That was Ant," Durant said. "It was a joy to be around him. Not just him, his whole crew was out there. . . . He has a family atmosphere around him, and he's big on family and his friends and his core people, and that's gonna take him a long way."

Off the court, the two were always talking, and Durant said they shared a lot of meals together. With the dozens of people in the traveling party, Durant said they would usually break off into small clusters for dinners or nights out. He and Edwards were often in those clusters together, especially when the team was in London prior to traveling to France. He smiled as he described how Edwards's voice would often ring in his head, even if Edwards would just send a text to him or the group chat.

"You can just hear the text," Durant said. "That's just that southern hospitality, that southern twang he got. He cares about family and community and relationships. That showed throughout our time here, because he's such a fan of everybody's. . . . He really appreciated that moment. It was cool to see, because it reminded me of myself when I was at my first Olympics."

He added: "I miss being around Ant every day."

It would cost a fortune and would take a lot of creativity to get it done, but I’d welcome Durant here. In his younger days, he was my #1 answer to which player would you ideally like to build a team around. And even now at this point in his career, I’d take him. Just for the effect of having him around, not to mention that he is still a very good player. Ant and Durant would be a dynamic pairing.

The Wolves have shown they’re topped out as a team to make the final 4 and fizzle. That’s not bad, but they need a solid vet like Durant to take the next step.

Thankfully, the Timberwolves have taken a hard "NO" position on moving McDaniels as part of any deal for Durant.

Hine now says its unlikely we deal for Durant since we're not a "preferred destination":

Shams Charania
Durant is on an expiring $54.7 million deal for 2025-26, and the Suns have made clear to six-to-eight seriously interested teams that they will make the best deal for the franchise – even outside of his preferred list of Miami, San Antonio and Houston.
Quote

The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets are 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant's preferred trade destinations out of Phoenix, sources tell ESPN. Those across the NBA have been made aware in recent days that those are the three teams that Durant would commit to long-term.

Yeah Durant on the Wolves would be scary. They absolutely need another big scorer, not a hodge-podge of maybes and ifs.

According to AI:

For a nonresident NBA player earning $50 million, Minnesota’s Nonresident Entertainer Tax would result in a tax of approximately $24,390 to $48,780 for 2–4 games played in the state. If the player is a Minnesota resident, the state income tax could be around $4.97 million, subject to credits for taxes paid to other states. For precise calculations, consult a tax professional, as deductions and credits vary.

Like he doesn't have enough money. A couple million in taxes should be meaningless to him. Is he not interested in California either? He's really limiting his options.

You don't even know that he doesn't want to come because of taxes. I've searched and haven't found anything that indicates taxes as the reason. There is no reason stated. The top speculations are:

He is on the last year of his contract and the Wolves may be reluctant to make the financial commitment he is looking for.

He has concerns about the team fit.

He doesn't want to play in a cold weather city.

I have seen rumors the top 3 targets being Durant, Garland, and the third Lonzo Ball.......all three have injury concerns of course.
