Rodgers is posting the push off Williams did on the late TD reception. Looks pretty clear to be Off PI.

I agree he pushed off... but you very rarely are going to get that call... need to hand fight that off to not give up a clean push off.

We got some calls today also. The body weight personal foul om JJM was iffy. I thought we did the same thing to Goff a couple times.

Wish we had Washington next week instead of Baltimore. They look horrible.

Interestingly... we had a very similar first game situation with Detroit last year.

Couldn't convert to close out the game.
This year the kid put it on Nailor.

Fun game.

It's amazing what having our starters (most) back on the OLine does.

It also helps when our D was able to play all starters for the first time since game 1 of the season.

It also helps when the team actually shows up and plays hard unlike the LAC beatdown.

Couple of bad things:
Not running the ball on 2nd and 3rd down at the 1 and late 4th.

How hurt is Jones.

ST did some things but gave some away.

This was flat out malpractice by O'Connell. Could have burned another minute off the clock or forced Det to start burning their TO's. This very well could have costed us this game.

After the Lions scored the momentum changed after the kick return and scoring a TD....we just couldn't get it in the end zone against LAC.

Though I will agree McCarthy still has some growing to do...I find it funny you can't even muster the ability to give him SOME credit. It was a team win....but McCarthy definitely contributed.

My .02

The defense was BaLLING. Other than letting LaPorta run amok, they were clearly committed to keeping Gibbs and Montgomery from beating them. Good plan. I've believed for a long time that Jared Goff is a guy that wilts under pressure. So the defensive gameplan was stuff the run, take away the play action and exploit the weak spot on the offensive line. and get in Goff's face. It worked pretty well.

McCarthy wasn't THE reason the offense had success, but he was A reason. Good to see a solid four quarters from him. Good to see the last quarter of the bears game wasn't the fluke. He still has a lot to learn. That INT was more on him than Nailer, threw it behind him.

On that INT, I thought Nailer caught it. had the ball in control in his hand, knee hit the ground (down by contact) then the dback wrestlled the ball out of his hands.

This team outplayed the Lions in all three phases. Pryce was awesome. Blocked FG (the kicker kicked it way too low if our interior Dlinemen can get a hand on it).

Nice to see our Oline play a complete game, keeping Hutchinson in check is nearly impossible and they mitigated his impact well.

I'd like to see more out of our passing game with JJM...but that will come.

I hope Aaron Jones is healthy for the next game. Mason is pretty good but I think we are much more effective with the 1-2 punch and Jones is dangerous on passing routes out of the backfield.

Gotta give these guys credit, they came hungry, focused and angry. And they took it to the Lions...

This is the only pass J.J. McCarthy completed yesterday when outside the pocket. (A big one!) Notable it was in Q1. McCarthy said he missed other passes on the run as the game continued because, in essence, he was amped up and throwing too hard.

The video is the TD pass to TJ.

Jones hurt is shoulder and was Questionable to return....but the Vikings didn't post the report until 3 hours after the game....it was very weird.

I'm with the announcers on that call. Don't like the rule, but it is the rule.
It was implemented as a knee jerk reaction after Aaron Rodgers threw a world class hissy fit when Anthony Barr broke his collar bone. That play was part of a pattern of the Lions trying rough McCarthy up and intimidate him. The leg whip personal foul by Hutchinson was another one.

There was a play also where a Defensive Holding was called that Hutchinson tried to say he tipped the ball. He raised his hands to try to tip a pass then shoved JJ down after it.....but it was at game speed so hard to see just like the Williams push off.

I remember Packer fans calling Barr dirty and trying to injure Rodgers because in .00004 of a second he shifted his weight to come down just the right way to injure Rodgers....It was laughable.

and then the very next year Clay Matthews Jr got called for the NEW RULE INTERPRETATION when he came down on Cousins and didn't think it should have been a foul.

I thought that was a nice win, where all three phases played well. Even better as a division game on the road to a tough team coming off a bye - very raucous crowd, too.

The OL played pretty well against a front that was going after JJM very aggressively.

The defense played pretty good, except a couple to LaPorta and the last TD (which was OPI fo sho). Great plan to stop the run and get after Goff. He doesn't handle pressure well.

Bummer on the KR being called back. Price looks good!

JJM looked pretty good. Kept his composure and made some really nice throws, especially to JA and the last one to Nailor. That is a lot of confidence from your coach to make that call!

He missed some throws while out of the pocket that he can make, just needs to settle down.

The INT was 50/50, IMHO and I think it hit the ground.

Eric Wilson is playing really well.

Good, complementary football.

The time management at the end by KOC was poor.

Mondays are much better after a nice win!

The game as a whole on Sunday reminded the team they can play with anyone.....tons of improvement needed yet.

I was out of town and didn't see the game, was pretty surprised by the result.

Going along with Brad's conspiracy, I had suggested before the game that maybe KOC was underestimating McCarthy, as he might be the sorta guy that doesn't show a lot in practice, and turns it up a notch in games.

To which, Richard responding with "7 of 8 quarters would suggest otherwise". How does that look for 12 quarters now ?

O'Connell losing Darnold was like Belichick losing Brady........he's just another coach. Don't get me wrong, Sam Darnold is no Tom Brady and O'Connell is no Bill Belichick. But you fully understand what I am saying. Without a functional quarterback, you have no chance of playing for anything important in the NFL. KAM, along with about 95% of the people in this forum are about to find that out.

Brad, do you now feel that the Vikings have a functional QB ? If not, what would it take for McCarthy to convince you he is functional ?

I don't think of 14-3 last year when thinking about Darnold, I think of 0-2 his last 2 Viking games. I would take a 9-8 regular season with 1 playoff win, over 14-3 and an immediate, embarrassing playoff loss.

And nope.....

Brad has a very busy schedule this week....I doubt he will have time to respond.

I can't think of another player who can evoke such anger among the fans 5 minutes after catching a TD pass.
