Another ESPN article about Kwesi: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47780122/nfl-minnesota-vikings-gm-kwesi-adofo-mensah-fired-kevin-oconnell-jj-mccarthy Regarding the QB situation in 2025, this article mentions them wanting to retain Jones, which has been mentioned before, but seems to get overlooked sometimes when discussing the Darnold situation. Based on the dates I could find, Darnold's signing with Seattle was announced on March 10, 2025, and then Jones signed with Indy on March 11, taking less money than the Vikings offered since he could be a starter there. I'm wondering if Kwesi was under the impression that if Darnold left, they still had Jones right there as a vet backup, not expecting him to sign elsewhere for less. KOC wanted Darnold to stay and may not have conveyed to Jones that he had a strong chance to start if Darnold left. Meanwhile, Kwesi may have been zeroed in on the financial benefits of having JJ as the starter, and less focused on the offer to Jones. Then between March 10th and 11th, they suddenly had lost both of those QBs. KOC was probably pissed. Kwesi may have been caught off guard, but immediately began to spin it as confirmation that JJ was now their starter. After that, the backup QB situation was a mess which is on Kwesi. An experienced GM would realize that a backup QB is critical in this league, but Kwesi seemed to ignore it until it was too late.
