I hope some of the TalkVikes people here are given some input into the Vikings draft.

I'm sure KOC will beat the table to advocate for that.

Kwesi fired. I was still surprised, but as was very clearly documented on this site, his drafting record is horrible and has really set back the organization. Also, his free agency signings record was mixed too. I am curious how they will handle the draft and if they really wait to get a new GM after the draft.

oh wow, I see they want to wait until after the draft to make a new hire...

that seems odd, but I guess this is KOC's draft...

wonder how much input there will be from Flores...

and Brzezinski, as apparently he will "run the front office"

It also suggests there was a rift between KOC/coaching staff and him. It will be interesting to see who they pick in the draft and also how they now handle the QB situation. I am only guessing, but it could have been that KOC always wanted to have a good veteran QB signed and/or did not agree with some of the free agency signings. This is all guessing though.

So free agency and the draft will likely be run by some version of a triangle of authority.

Free agency is easy... cut some players to get under the cap and make a middling signing or two.

No kidding. Good luck Kwesi …

Probably too late to gut the college scouting / draft apparatus … much less manage the 2026 draftroom …

Maybe we could give Tice a call!

Interesting story if it is true. Could explain rift with KOC.

Here's another good article related to Kwesi firing. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/minnesota-vikings/news/why-vikings-fired-general-manager-kwesi-adofo-mensah-surprise-move/d84482309bc2c51cfbb7d5ad

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who cites talk in league circles, there was a "tension" in the Vikings' building, with one source even going so far as to say the tension was "ugly."

"Throughout the season, there was talk about an underlying 'tension' in the Vikings’ building in league circles. One league source said it had been 'ugly' in Minnesota. Then today, the Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah," Schefter reported.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the tension was between Adofo-Mensah and the coaching staff, and he hints the team's quarterback decision in the 2025 offseason was the reason for that.

Queasy was fired for his series of failed drafts pure and simple. If he had drafted well and not traded picks at a loss, the Vikings have been successful in their efforts to rebuild competitively. Right off the bat, trading down 20 spots without picking up a first in the next draft was borderline criminal.

#Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell reportedly urged caution about playing JJ McCarthy in 2025, believing he wasn’t ready yet, but Kwesi Adofo-Mensah didn’t share that same view, per @ProFootballTalk

“This tells us Kwesi Adofo-Mensah wanted what they got. J.J. McCarthy with journeyman backups and that O’Connell was cautioning against it. He was the guy saying this isn’t going to work.”

Also reported that a trade was in the works sending McCarthy to the Raiders and us signing Darnold long term.

This is what O'Connell wanted to do.

That's outrageous and sounds like scapegoating.

I'm not doubting that you heard that reported somewhere ... maybe there's some truth in it ...

but the timing of that is some Shakespearean betrayal stuff going on right there.

This does seem very strange. Has another team ever fired their GM 3 months before the draft and announced they will not replace him before the draft? This seems really stupid. Who knows, maybe Spielman said no.

Shout out to Bill on the Triangle of Authority. Also looks like a schism to me.

Kwesi was hired Jan 26th 2022.

Another ESPN article about Kwesi: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47780122/nfl-minnesota-vikings-gm-kwesi-adofo-mensah-fired-kevin-oconnell-jj-mccarthy

Regarding the QB situation in 2025, this article mentions them wanting to retain Jones, which has been mentioned before, but seems to get overlooked sometimes when discussing the Darnold situation. Based on the dates I could find, Darnold's signing with Seattle was announced on March 10, 2025, and then Jones signed with Indy on March 11, taking less money than the Vikings offered since he could be a starter there. I'm wondering if Kwesi was under the impression that if Darnold left, they still had Jones right there as a vet backup, not expecting him to sign elsewhere for less. KOC wanted Darnold to stay and may not have conveyed to Jones that he had a strong chance to start if Darnold left. Meanwhile, Kwesi may have been zeroed in on the financial benefits of having JJ as the starter, and less focused on the offer to Jones. Then between March 10th and 11th, they suddenly had lost both of those QBs. KOC was probably pissed. Kwesi may have been caught off guard, but immediately began to spin it as confirmation that JJ was now their starter. After that, the backup QB situation was a mess which is on Kwesi. An experienced GM would realize that a backup QB is critical in this league, but Kwesi seemed to ignore it until it was too late.

FWIW: there was internal disagreement when drafting J.J. McCarthy and when deciding whether to prioritize him or Sam Darnold this offseason. Kevin O’Connell wanted to go in the other direction. The Vikings were moments away from trading McCarthy to the Raiders this offseason, but to no avail.

We’ll find out this year whether we have a scouting problem or Kwesi was just bad

I think its the later, but we will soon find out

Never understood where his analytics came in because it seemed like moves he made was anti analytics
Not stockpiling draft picks, building an old roster, etc
