Torn on this one. You gotta assume that BG has already been assured that he signs an extension by his reps. If not, he's an absolute fool. For the trade itself:

I'm ok losing LO (they clearly didn't rate him) and MR (same based on how they handled his contract situation). The one that makes me a little nervous is Buium. He's shown a lot of flashes but also some growing pains.

I'm curious how the locker room views this. It's a 'win now' move. Is this the Sprug ticket out in the offseason?

It's a big swing by BG but not the direction I thought they would go.

Isn’t Hughes basically the very best possible outcome for Buium?

What are the odds of him even being 75% of him?

The absolute best for Buium is well short of Quinn Hughes. Hughes is a franchise changing player. Buium could basically become Faber with a little more offense and a little less defense.

The Wild reportedly topped a huge offer from Washington for Hughes

The proposed Capitals package, according to D’Amico’s RG colleague, Jimmy Murphy, could have included 24-year-old forward Connor McMichael, 19-year-old defenseman Cole Hutson, another prospect, and two first-round picks.

The Devils made a pretty strong push too.

We had to give up a ton but there isn't anything we traded away that was irreplaceable. We went on the big winning streak w/o Rossi and Yurov has been the key. Buium is the only worry but it might take him 3-4 years to get there.

There has to be another trade coming to get some size like Tuch or someone else.

Winner: Judd Brackett
In 2020, following disagreements on autonomy and a breakdown of trust with then-Canucks GM Benning, Brackett left Vancouver to take over as the Wild’s director of amateur scouting.

Since then, Minnesota has built up one of the best prospect pipelines in the NHL. And as many people pointed out in the aftermath of the Hughes trade, it was the inclusion of three of Brackett’s first-round draft picks in Rossi, Buium, and Öhgren that got the deal across the finish line. That has to be a massive feather in Brackett’s cap.

The jury is still out on exactly how good those players will become, but their appeal to the Canucks as blue-chip assets is all that matters for the Wild. The Devils, in comparison, drafted Alex Holtz two picks ahead of Rossi in 2020 and Anton Silayev two picks ahead of Buium. Silayev could still turn out to be a good selection, but there’s an alternate universe where New Jersey could have had the exact assets Vancouver coveted in a Hughes deal had it made different picks.

This my big concern too. And I don't think they were assured of Hughes signing an extension. BG is probably gambling that Hughes and his agent know that nobody can offer him as big a deal as the Wild can. My guess is that on July 1st, they will try to blow his doors off with an 8 year offer.

I was wondering the same thing. How is he going to fit in with the locker room and who is he going be partnered with? I don't see Hynes slotting him into Zeev's old spot, but will he blow up all of the good chemistry our other pairs currently have to fit him in? I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Russo predicts top line with Faber.

From a pure on ice perspective, sure. it's pretty possible that Buium never gets to where Hughes is at currently. Off the ice 'aka - contract', I won't be happy with this trade until the ink dries. If/when it does, it'll be a big win. The one thing that ZB had is a steal of a contract and potential.

Not sure it was the injuries, new guys, early start, the trade emotions or all the above but that was one of the worst periods i've seen in a while.

Managed to pull it out with less than a minute left but a win is a win. If this team ever gets healthy we may be pretty good, but it seems like we have been saying that for 2 years now.

Much better in the 2nd and it was good to take both points but 1 thing that stood out AGAIN. We need a PP QB and BG got one yesterday. ZB showed signs and I was really excited about his future. That said, he pissed me off nightly with "rookie type" mistakes. Our PP today was hot garbage again. I can't wait to see what it looks like in a couple months.

I don't know who came up with the plan to always enter the zone right next to the boards with 2 other Wild players standing there flat footed, but they really need to stop that shit. The other team is shorthanded so we make it easy for one player to stop our entry.....it makes no sense to me. When you spend the whole PP just trying to enter the zone it just ends up as wasted time. It will be so fun to watch Hughes take care of zone entries and take charge with Kirill and Boldy setting up for shots.

Skor North thinks Pitt is tanking and Sid the kid for a 27 first isn’t so reckless of speculation after adding Hughes.

Nothing new. They were pushing that narrative in the offseason too. Citing his ties with Flower and BG.

A first round pick for a 38 year old. Sid still has something in the tank, but still...

Interesting trade. My great hockey mind approves.

This sends a message. Management is saying, you turned the season around. We believe in you. We believe this is real. Let’s do it.

On first impression, one is taken aback a bit by giving up such young talent. Rossi had a slow start, but last year started to show that he may yet live up to his billing. He was on the right track, until injuries this year. And Buium was the Golden Boy. The kid everyone couldn’t wait to see in a Wild uniform. They could both end up being stars.

But we got a confirmed star now. That’s how these trades work.

The Wild didn’t make any big splashes in the off season. Mainly because the FA pool ended up being fairly imited. So they did the wise thing to not overspend just to spend money. This enables them to do moves like this during the season, and (presumably, hopefully) get him extended.

Like I mentioned up thread it wasn't what I thought they would do, that's for sure! If you need to get some secondary scoring you could do a lot worse. Just the PP gains are worth it.

Wild really taking it to Boston now going up 5-0 with 10 minutes still to go. Hughes is worth the price of admission and is one of those guys that makes everybody better when he's on the ice.
Now we just need get healthy and quit losing guys every couple of games. Lost JoJo towards the end of the 1st and haven't seen him or heard anything since.....
