What I read from it is he really appreciates how hard Guerin went after the trade and didn't lowball his old team plus his family is actually from Michigan which isn't any farther from NJ. "Billy sacked up and added a couple of assets to get me, Ill remember that."

Might have to bring the Hughes brothers to the Wild instead?

The fact nobody realized that Quinn left his gear in brother Jack’s car is a story for the ages. Quinn and Billy were mortified after they landed in Minnesota and suddenly realized. Amazing they got it flown here in time for the early game

Hughes essentially echoed what I put in my column today as what would be the reasons for him sticking around MN for a long time.

As a hockey nut, Hughes is very aware what the Wild gave up to get him, values that incredibly and will remember that

One other thing he added in there is that he'll always remember how the crowd treated him in warmups (standing O as he left warmups)

After two tough years at Wisconsin, the 2023 No. 21 pick transferred to Michigan State to be coached by his old U.S. National Team Development Program coach, Adam Nightingale. Stramel’s game has improved significantly over the two years since. After scoring 20 points in 60 games at Wisconsin, he had 27 in 37 last season and is second on the Spartans with 18 in 16 this season. He also leads the team with a plus-16 rating and was tied for eighth in the nation with 196 faceoff wins through Thursday. Nightingale told The Athletic last week that Stramel is the best net-front player he has ever coached. Former NHLer and Spartans national champ Justin Abdelkader has come in to work with Stramel. — Michael Russo

Stramel has a high floor. He is a huge, strong, fast, physical face-off winning machine. Which tier of 6 he plays will depend on how his offensive game translates to the NHL. My guess is that he will join the Wild after the college season.

I can see Stramel as middle 6 center playing physical and reeking havoc at net front much like EK does now. If he can work his way up as high as Ek did it would be great for the team.

The trade surprised me in two ways......I don't follow much hockey outside of the MN Wild. So it is very interesting to me that they enforced a strength instead of getting a Center. If Hughes can score 80-100 points it was certainly out of the box thinking and will make things easier for everyone else (looking at you Hartman, Tarasenko, Foligno and a lesser extent Ek now that they have the top two blue lines capable of moving the puck.

Getting Hunt back for basically nothing was nice also and added depth but I noticed when Jiricek, Sturm, and Pitlick were playing last game we aren't as small as we use to be and are faster.

Wild are wearing their North Star colors uniforms tonight. I wish they’d make these the standard ones and quit pretending they’re not the most awesome hockey in history.

Strange, I like the colors for the Wild uniforms, but I detested the North Star uniforms.

Kaprizov had the lowest point total of the three tonight. Tiramisu had 2g, 1a. Yurov had 1g 2a. Kaprizov just had a measly goal.

Tarasenko looked real good last night and Yurov was 10 of 11 on faceoffs.
5-0 shutout of the Caps with 7 players out.

What is also happening also is teams are getting desperate enough to keep it in our zone where we had 3 breakouts that normally don't happen......Tarasenko, Foligno, and Boldy/Foligno and the Short Handed goal.

I'm with you. The old North Star colors are too close to Packer colors, and I like the darker green with red that are in the Wild colors.

I admit I over-reacted when the trade was announced. To hear we traded away three guys that we used first round picks on, and who seemed like they were good assets to our team felt like we had given away the bank. But hearing the talking heads on tv talk about it, and hearing/seeing more of Hughes has me sold. Nice beatdown of the Capitals last night.

Scout Who Drafted Quinn Hughes Helped Build Trade Package For Wild

Former Vancouver Canucks amateur scouting director Judd Brackett played a crucial role in both sides of the Quinn Hughes trade. Brackett advised the Canucks to draft Hughes seventh overall in 2018, then left Vancouver in 2020 after failing to reach a contract agreement.

Brackett joined the Minnesota Wild under GM Bill Guerin and quickly transformed the team's prospect pool. He had a hand in drafting every player the Wild traded to Vancouver for Hughes: Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren and Zeev Buium.

Respected scout Dan Palango also left Vancouver with Brackett to join Minnesota's front office. Their departures proved costly for the Canucks' long-term outlook.

The five Canucks drafts after Brackett's departure produced only one selection who played more than 50 NHL games. Defenseman Elias N. Pettersson, taken 80th overall in 2022, was the lone exception.

Vancouver's prospect pool dried up as Brackett built Minnesota's system. The Wild accumulated the young talent that eventually became the foundation of their Hughes offer.

"I don't think there's a team that could offer something similar to this right now," one NHL executive told ESPN. "Not many teams can give up their 2C and a 20-year-old, top-four defenseman and still feel like they're going to contend this year."

Buium has potential as a top-pairing defender and power-play quarterback. His elite skating and toolkit provide a foundation to develop into a solid defender, though his defending needs improvement.

The Wild were positioned to make the deal because they have players who can replace the traded prospects. Riley Heidt, Hunter Haight, Ryder Ritchie and Charlie Stramel provide forward depth.

Carson Lambos and David Jiricek offer defensive reinforcements, though that need is less pressing after acquiring Hughes. The organizational depth Brackett helped build allowed Guerin to make an aggressive offer.

Rossi gives Vancouver a young center who can provide offense. Guerin had been attempting to move Rossi for an extended period. The Wild gave him just a three-year deal when re-signing the restricted free agent in August.

Ohgren hasn't put things together in the NHL over three seasons. He has previous chemistry with Canucks forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki from their time in Sweden.

There was another article that talked about New Jersey trying desperately to put a deal for Hughes together, but they just didn't have the assets. The ironic thing was that New Jersey picked two slots before the Wild in both the drafts that netted Rossi and Buium.
