ORIGINAL: 69in09 I know I don't need to explain this to you guys but there is no "cap hit" to take on Ponder. As Prescott said, it's "dead money" we've essentially already paid it. The team is not going to flat cut a guy who's contract is already paid. It would cost us at least .4K both in real $ AND in cap space to sign a bum off the street. The only question is; can we trade him and if not, is he the #2 or #3 next year? Probably not. I don't even like Ponder, but from an organization standpoint, there's practically no reason to cut him. Viking fans (or I guess detractors of Ponder) want him gone just so no one is 'tempted' to start him, but that's not how anyone in the organization will look at it. He's already paid for so there's really no reason he can't be on the team as the 3rd string/emergency backup. I'm also getting the feeling that unless Spielman is gone, Frazier isn't either. Especially if they finish with another win or two. Same reasoning, you have a team going into a transition stadium, with a coach that's already paid for. Even if next year sucks and Frazier completely flops, you bring a new coach the second year in TCF, and he's ready to go for the grand opening of the new stadium. Which pretty much guarantees fan support no matter what.
