OK, time for my predictions for the 2009 NFL Season. We will start with the NFC. NFC West Sucky division will once again send crap to the playoffs (although last year’s crap made it to and almost won the SB). Arizona – is a bit of a surprising team. They didn’t win a lot of games last year, but won in the playoffs. They need to get there again to have any chance. Their offense will depend a great deal on Kurt Warner staying upright all year and not missing time. If he goes down., so do the Cards’ hopes. That’s a lot to pin on a 38 year old immobile QB. Seattle – It all depends on the QB here too. If Hasselbeck gets ouchy again…Seattle will disappear again…but they can’t possibly have the same number of injuries to one position (WR) like they did last year. The only thing keeping this team from returning to the top of this division is the coaching situation. Jim Mora Jr proved pretty inconsistent in Atlanta…will that continue here. San Francisco – May have a pretty good running game…they’d better…cause their passing game will be horrendous. Their defense should be good. They could surprise, but I think the QB situation will be their downfall. Alex Smith or Shaun Hill folks? Pick your poison. St. Louis – Unless they pull a Dolphins they are in complete rebuilding mode (in this division it is entirely possible. Don’t expect much from this team. Division winner: Seattle recovers. Stays healthy at QB and WR and wins the division with a 9-7 record. Nobody else from this division goes to the playoffs. NFC South Carolina – It’s falling apart fast down there. Delhomme is getting old and can’t stay healthy. The defense will struggle. John Fox will be one of the first casualties in next offseason’s coaching carousel.. Deangelo Williams will be their only bright spot. Tampa – See St. Louis…total rebuild mode. New coach, New QB, Just fired the OC. This team is not going to compete much this year. New Orleans – Biggest coaching pickup of the year. Williams the DC. This teams offense will rack up huge yards and score plenty of points. The Defense has to improve and they did a LOT this offseason to improve it…most importantly getting one of the better DCs out there. Atlanta – Will fight for a WC again…but will miss out this time. I believe Matt Ryan will still have a good year…but they will regress a bit and miss the playoffs again. Division winner: Saints. Only WC chance here is Atlanta… NFC East NY Giants – Big ??? at WR and Eli struggled when he didn’t have a reliable out guy to pass to once Plaxico shot himself. Defense should be dominant again…but reports are Usi isn’t looking recovered yet. Could be problematic Washington – Who will Jason Campbell throw to? The defense should be improved and if they play run run run they will win a few. Dallas – They have some interesting players, But Wade Phillips is not going to be able to keep up the façade of how he’s coaching all season. He just isn’t this kind of guy. It wont last. Losing TO will help and hurt. Getting Felix Jones back will help. The defense might struggle a little bit. Tony Romo will show once and for all if he’s all that or not (I think it’s not). Philly – have just lost too much and will be depending on TWO undersized WRs for the bulk of their passing game. Vick circus will distract the team a bit too. I see a big fall off here. Division winner: Tough to call, but I pick the Giants. Dallas and Washington will fight for the final WC spot. NFC North Minnesota Vikings – Weaknesses, QB, WR, Young Oline at two positions, and Safety. Other than that, you have AD, Shianco poised for a big season and a D that will be dominating, improved ST, and a focus on Turnover ratio like never before. This team will surprise a lot of pundits. Chicago – Will probably compete with Cutler at QB, but his addition is being way overblown. He still has nothing to throw to, the Defense is getting old/slow and has been injury prone the past few years. Forte will be the biggest factor. He’s one of the better all around RBs in the league. But I don’t think he will be enough. Green Bay – Young D, new Scheme, Don’t let the preseason fool you. They did all their best against vanilla offenses/defenses. They will improve on last year, but are, like the Bears, a bit overhyped. Detroilet – I predict they will win more games this year than last year and still compete for the first overall pick in next year’s draft. The rebuild is in progress, it will be a few years before they can compete. Division Winner: Vikes (purple shades? Maybe, but I do see us repeating). Playoffs: Vikings and Giants get a bye Saints and Seattle play WC weekend Packers and Redskins are wildcards…yes, I said Redskins. Seattle loses and Saints win on WC weekend Packers move on, Redskins fade away. Vikings beat Packers Saints beat Giants. Vikings host NFCCG and lose to Saints. NFC Champs: New Orleans Saints.
