Prediction: 3-4 start, Brett misses some starts. 7-2 finish, Rice lights it up. 10-6, Wild Card win, then done in divisional playoffs on the road. Noble effort, but too many weaknesses starting at the HC position, too many injuries.

The Packers are the sexy pick to win the NFC this year but most people seem to have forgotten AZ lighting them up for 50+ points last year.  They still have the same terrible offensive line and bad defense so I think our chances of repeating are look pretty good.

I don't expect you guys to believe me because I didn't have my picks before the season posted on here last year, but I correctly picked the Saints over the Colts BEFORE the season last year, have it written down on a piece of paper here. I did NOT brag about it after the SB because I had forgotten to post it on here before the season started, and thought about posting it after week 1, but didn't think that would be right.

I've made picks for the last 25 years (one year I had a contest and had people do ALL their picks with records and a playoff, and a couple of people off the old trib site participated), sometimes posted online, usually written down, a few times just worked out in my head and discussed it with other people and told them my picks. Plenty of my co-workers know my picks last year, and several of them were commenting when both of my picks were undefeated late in the year. I thought it would have been quite something if they had both entered the SB undefeated, that would have been neat.

I think it's really fun to try to predict teams' records, and then the playoffs based on that. Honestly, last year was the 1st time in 25 years that I even had ONE SB participant right. It was neat getting them both right, and I was really wondering if the Saints were going to pull it off. And it was hard to cheer for them after they beat the Vikes, but I DID. At a SB party, I was yelling "PETERSON !!!" everytime Henderson made a play, as though I was unsoberly confused, or in an alternate reality where the VIKINGS were in the SB (maybe the reality will be THIS year ?).

I will post my picks tonight, almost have them worked out on paper. One thing I got wrong last year was I picked the Pack to win the division, and I might pick them again. I think IF the Vikes win at NO on Thursday, or at Lambau, the Vikes will win the division.

IF the Vikes win on Thursday, this could be the season they win it all, it could give them a feeling of destiny. I just don't think the Vikes WILL win on Thursday. I think the Saints backed off from deep passes in the playoff game because the Vikes got a strong early pass rush. The Saints decided to play conservative, run the ball and short passes and hope the Vikes made mistakes, and that was a good in game adjustment.

This game, I think the Saints will test the Vikes deep more (which COULD backfire). A few weeks ago, I was thinking the Saints would win this game easily, but I think the Vikes are relishing the underdog role, and will give them a GREAT game.

I think the Saints will once again make us feel bad with a game winning FG, this time in regulation, no overtime.

Saints 29
Vikes 27

One thing I don't like is the "we are underdog so we will do better" belief.

At some point, you have to be the freakin' man. That means winning the big games when you are expected to win. You can't always sneak up on someone or use the us v world mentality.

I don't want to be the underdog. I want to be the favorite, the most feared team on the planet.

And then we go in and pillage and burn!

The funniest thing is when the value of Sage is properly shown the retort is "well, he is more valuable than Jackson!"

That is funny because no one has ever argued that Jackson had value to any other team. My Pinto with the exploding rear tank is more valuable than your Vega with the melting aluminum block!

CNNSI has their predictions available on the web. All of them have the Packers winning the division. All but two (out of nine writers) have the Packers in the Super Bowl. Three of those have the Packers winning it. Eight of the writers picked Aaron Rodgers as NFL MVP. As for the Vikings? Only four picked them to even make the playoffs.

I know that the only thing these "professional" writers have ever proven is that they don't know jack, but I get sick of all the Packer love year after year.

I agree with John--I'm sick of being the underdog. We are one of the most talented teams in the NFL, and we need to put a serious beat down on any team that questions that- starting with the Saints on Thursday night.

Great post!

Screw the Packers and all the wanna be prognosticators. Hope they're both licking their wounds come years end.

This is OUR year!

Bingo.

If they are all picking the Packers to win the division, then I REALLY want the Packers to suck, just to prove to those idiots that they don't know jack.

For the life of me I can't understand why they have the Cowboys ahead of the Vikings. Were they asleep last January? Since then the Cowboys OL has gotten weaker.

Ah, but they're the Cowboys! Magic Star on the helmet and everything.

How many playoff games have they won in the last decade?

Seriously, though, they're idiots. They just don't believe that Farve can put together another decent season. Plus the Vikes are dealing with a lot of early injuries. If I were just looking at the opening day roster and the opening few games, I'd probably pick the Vikes to do relatively poorly. But as people return, the Vikes will get a lot stronger. For example, CB is now a concern, but only for a handful of games and then they're significantly deeper and better than last year. And WR is a concern, but after Rice is back they will be overstocked with talent there, too.

I think the Saints are more likely to drop down the league than the Vikes. They relied so much on turnovers, and if that well dries up, even a little, they're going to be thirsty.

People are down on Berrian. He's my MIP this year.

Willing to put a number on it. 12TD's (5 higher than his career high)

Willing to put a 24 or a 40 on it if anyone is interested. X1

1 Thu, Sep 9 @New Orleans L
2 Sun, Sep 19 vsMiami W
3 Sun, Sep 26 vsDetroit W
4 BYE WEEK
5 Mon, Oct 11 @New York W
6 Sun, Oct 17 vsDallas L (Favre will be awful, feeling good about beating Jets, but looking ahead to Pack)
7 Sun, Oct 24 @Green Bay W
8 Sun, Oct 31 @New England L
9 Sun, Nov 7 vsArizona W
10 Sun, Nov 14 @Chicago L (looking ahead to GB)
11 Sun, Nov 21 vsGreen Bay W
12 Sun, Nov 28 @Washington L
13 Sun, Dec 5 vsBuffalo W
14 Sun, Dec 12 vsNew York W
15 Mon, Dec 20 vsChicago W
16 Sun, Dec 26 @Philadelphia L
17 Sun, Jan 2 @Detroit W

I had to get to 10-6 to match my season predictions below, so I changed the Jets game to a Vikings' win. It will help to be coming off of a bye, and I think Favre will be determined to beat NY Jets, will play like he did at Pittsburgh last year, but this time they'll let Peterson be the hero, and AD will win the game in the 4th quarter.

1.) Thu, Sep 9 @ New Orleans L  (Too many key players injured, Childress doesn't prepare team, secondary will struggle)

2.) Sun, Sep 19 vs Miami W (Miami is a potential sleeper this year, but I see us winning this game by 10+. Don't think Henne is the guy Miami thinks he is, Marshall will have a big game, we shut down their running game as well)

3.) Sun, Sep 26 vs Detroit W (We always seem to keep our games close to Detroit, but I think they are too weak on defense to stop us. IF O-line plays well, we crush them. Stafford/Calvin Johnson seem like a potential threat)

4.) Bye (We're going to need it especially with all of our injuries: Cook, Griffin, Rice, hopefully nobody else.)

5.) Mon, Oct 11 @ New York L (Their defense blitzes almost every play and we don't seem to pick up blitzes real well especially with no RB that can block well.  Santonio Holmes first game back, Sanchez throws 2 INTs though)

6.) Sun, Oct 17 vs Dallas W (Haven't added anyone from last year, basically only got worse on O-line. Dez Bryant is next Percy Harvin: breakout speed/good hands, still defense puts too much pressure on Romo: see NFC Divisional Championship game)

7.) Sun, Oct 24 @ Green Bay L (Secondary has trouble keeping up with Rodgers, offense has too many turnovers, Packers looking for revenge)

8.) Sun, Oct 31 @ New England L (Moss doesn't seem motivated this season although Welker will be huge this game if he's 100%, their secondary is very shaky this year with 2 starters out for season which could be a close game. Still have trouble stopping Brady & Co.)

9.) Sun, Nov 7 vs Arizona W (No real QB that scares me, if defensive line puts pressure on Anderson, he force throws, defense lost 2 huge starters, Antrel Rolle and Karlos Dansby)

10.) Sun, Nov 14 @ Chicago W (defensive line dominates Bear's pathetic offensive line, Peterson again dominates at Soldier Field)

11.) Sun, Nov 21 vs Green Bay W (Put pressure on Rodgers, Sidney Rice/Harvin/Peterson have huge games, defense makes some BIG plays)

12.) Sun, Nov 28 @ Washington Redskins W (Don't see any real threat on offense, no above average WRs or descent RB. One we return all of our healthy players back, we roll through the regular season)

13.) Sun, Dec 5 vs Buffalo Bills W (Could be worse then the Lions this year, predict this game is a blowout)

14.) Sun, Dec 12 vs New York Giants W (Tough game, but slid through it. Peterson has huge game)

15.) Mon, Dec 20 vs Chicago Bears W (See week 10)

16.) Sun, Dec 26 @ Philadelphia Eagles W (Not sold on Kolb this year, I feel though DeSean Jackson will have a huge game against us, returning punts and deep balls)

17.) Sun, Jan 2 @ Detroit Lions W (See week 3)

Final Record: 12-4

NFC North 1) Packers 11-5 2) Vikings 10-6 3) Chicago 9-7 4) Detroit 3-13
NFC South 1) Saints 12-4 2) Falcons 10-6 3) Panthers 6-10 4) Bucs 3-13
NFC East 1) Cowboys 11-5 2) Redskins 10-6 3) Eagles 9-7 4) Giants 5-11
NFC West 1) 49ers 12-4 2) Cardinals 9-7 3) Seahawks 8-8 4) Rams 5-11

AFC North 1) Ravens 12-4 2) Bengals 11-5 3) Steelers 9-7 4) Browns 2-14
AFC South 1) Colts 11-5 2) Titans 10-6 3) Texans 8-8 4) Jaguars 3-13
AFC East 1) Jets 11-5 2) Patriots 10-6 3) Dolphins 9-7 4) Bills 3-13
AFC West 1) Chargers 11-5 2) Broncos 9-7 3) Raiders 8-8 4) Chiefs 5-11

Last year I read a magazine and plenty of online reading as I was into fantasy football (but still just got lucky I was able to pick the 2 SB teams, I've never been able to pick ONE before). This year I quit doing FF to spend more time doing other stuff, and am hoping my picks will both be WRONG because I'm not picking the Vikes to represent the NFC.

Playoffs: NFC byes - Saints 49ers
WC round - Cowboys over Vikings (makes me sick!) Packers over Redskins
Div round - Saints over Cowboys Packers over 49ers
NFC Champ - Saints over Packers

AFC byes - Ravens Chargers
WC round - Patriots over Colts Jets over Bengals
Div round - Ravens over Patriots over Jets over Chargers
AFC Champ - Ravens over Jets

SB - Ravens over Saints

Pretty crazy, I ended up having the Vikes beat the Packers twice again, but losing to Dallas twice. Dallas is probably not as good as GB so this is unlikely. I only think the Vikes win in Lambau IF the Vikes LOSE the week before at home against Dallas.

When you do records, you sometimes end up with different playoff scenarios, which can lead you to totally different outcomes. I encourage ALL you guys and gals to put your predictions up here before the season starts (it's kind of fun, and as you'll see, VERY difficult), less than 24 hours to do so.

I think IF the Vikes can beat the Saints, the Vikes will probably win the division, and could well go on a SB run. I'll be really pumped if that happens.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that as the Vikes beat the Packers at home (in their game 10), it will be in part because some dirty Packer player will injure Peterson during the game, igniting the team to beat the Pack, but making Peterson gimpy the rest of the season. Despite this, I think Gerhart will run VERY strong down the stretch, with few fumbles, the team will be hot going into the playoffs.

I will not edit after kickoff tommorrow night.

I changed a few things on Vikes schedule (thought it looks silly to me that the Vikes would sweep the Packers again, that seems unlikely), and decided to have Jets edging out NE for that division.

I encourage some of you guys and gals to man up, or woman up and post your predictions for the season, along with playoffs and final winner. Good luck!

* and you should only be allowed to criticize or poke fun at others' predictions, if you manned up, or womanned up and did predictions yourself on here before the season starts.
