I am a bit amazed by the lack of confidence of some Viking fans. Our squad is pretty much the same squad that kicked NO ass in every area but turnovers a few months ago.

I'm disgusted at people believing the packer hype. What trash! Pull out video of last year and believe what you see! Screw that the pack did in preseason- it means nothing. They are team that gave up 51 points to the cards who got spanked by the saints. Don't believe the media B.S.

Tonight, We dat!

BTW- We will have HFA this year I won't predict the exact record- but we'll get whatever we need to have it. The pack will be a fringe playoff team.

The loss of Sidney Rice is a huge factor. On top of that, Favre started out real slowly last year and took a few weeks to crank it up. If he starts out slowly tonight we will be down 17 before you blink

The Saints will come out of the tunnel on fire. But that fire is built on emotion that fades. If they don't put up 10 points or so in the 1st quarter we will have withstood their storm and will start coming for them. If the game is close at half, we win.

I think Sharper means as much to the Saints as Rice means to us. He was a turnover machine all year and a leader for them.

I hear people worried about Sully being injured. In the Saints game last year we had every player on the OL except Sully at much less than 100%. I believe McKinnie, Herrera and Hutch all had work done in offseason and Loadholt missed some time in the game. Like some of the others on this board, I think we will run it down their throats. I think we'll initially be balanced and throw to loosen them up and then start hitting them ALL DAY!

I will bet taglines without anyone that Camarillo will NOT be the leading Vikings WR this year!

Folks, he is a mediocre WR. Desperation can sometimes make someone look better than they really are (see any nightclub at 2AM). But Camarillo is not a starting WR on any good team.

I don't think he will be the leading WR either.

But I do think he will be a favorite 3rd down option.

Who on the team will end up with more receptions?

I predict AD is gonna have a monster game. I'm talking 200+ yards 3TDs. I still think he was hurt more then he let on during the Ravens game last year and some of people forgot what the man can do.

AD's a stud and it's about time people remember that again.

Vikes 27-24, Aints with a late garbage TD convertting a couple 4th downs because they weren't able to get it done in 3 downs all game long.

Let's be the more physical team and take care of the ball. Win or lose I expect us to get better as the season goes on. I hope Favre isn't rusty.

I said I wouldn't edit my picks after the tonights' kickoff, and I'm NOT going to do that. I'm just posting them again and adding a few comments:

1 Thu, Sep 9 @New Orleans L
2 Sun, Sep 19 vsMiami W
3 Sun, Sep 26 vsDetroit W
4 BYE WEEK
5 Mon, Oct 11 @New York W
6 Sun, Oct 17 vsDallas L (Favre will be awful, feeling good about beating Jets, but looking ahead to Pack)
7 Sun, Oct 24 @Green Bay W
8 Sun, Oct 31 @New England L
9 Sun, Nov 7 vsArizona W
10 Sun, Nov 14 @Chicago L (looking ahead to GB)
11 Sun, Nov 21 vsGreen Bay W
12 Sun, Nov 28 @Washington L
13 Sun, Dec 5 vsBuffalo W
14 Sun, Dec 12 vsNew York W
15 Mon, Dec 20 vsChicago W
16 Sun, Dec 26 @Philadelphia L
17 Sun, Jan 2 @Detroit W

Earlier comment after that: Pretty crazy, I ended up having the Vikes beat the Packers twice again, but losing to Dallas twice. Dallas is probably not as good as GB so this is unlikely. I only think the Vikes win in Lambau IF the Vikes LOSE the week before at home against Dallas.

After seeing the Vikes' lose to the Saints and seeing the screen passes aren't likely to get perfected with Taylor gone, predicting a victory over the Jets is quite foolish with all the blitzing they do in NY. I should have stayed with my original prediction that had the Vikes losing at NY (I thought Favre might be motivated to beat them, but I don't think he'll really care that much, he had his revenge satisfaction filled in beating the Packers twice last year), but beating the Cowboys, and then losing to GB AT Lambau, that makes much more sense.

I should have stayed with my original prediction which had them LOSE at the Jets, BEAT the Cowboys, then LOSE at the Packers. That's puts the team at 9-7, and that's where I think they'll finish.

Time for an outlandish prediction: The defense shuts out Miami and Detroit.

That excludes special teams, and I'll also give the defense no responsibility if it's 3 & FG, like after a turnover or long return.

Well, I was half right.

The loss of Rice was huge

Favre was rusty and tired.

The Saints came out in a storm

We weathered the storm and took the lead.

Then our offense went to sleep and gave the game away!

October is looking real tough.

We have to win the next 2 to get to 2-1. Then split October and end up 4-3 with 9 to play
The second half of the season is a very weak schedule and Rice will be coming back

We could still get to 12 wins if we win the next two and split October

I don't think the Vikes will get to 12 wins. I don't think they'll get to the 10 I predicted, I think it will be 9 wins.

The Miami could end up closer than expected if the Vikes don't get an early lead. The big problem could be the playmaking ability of Brandon Marshall. He could end up being the difference in a low scoring game. I'm hoping he has a BIG game this weekend so Frazier's game plan is focussed on taking him out of the picture.

The Vikings' offense is going to be worse than I thought, but the defense is going to be slightly better (they did get lucky a few times with dropped passes by Saints' WRs).

you know, I was thinking we got lucky on some of the drops by the Saints WRs but as I think more about it I changed my mind. We caused those drops by laying some heavy hits on their WRs earlier in the game.

That's a good point JC.

I think there was also just enough pressure on Brees to where he was uncomfortable, and I think the Saints were worried it would be the VIKES causing turnovers in this one, and that the Vikes could sneak out a win in the 4th quarter.

The Vikes defense did a good job of shutting down plays that had any kind of fanciness to them, so the Saints adjusted and went more basic on offense, trying to just run out the clock and escape with a win.

I'm NOT saying the refs costed the Vikes the game, but IF they had been nuetral last night, it's quite possible the Vikes WIN that game. I think if they do NOT call the hold (not much of a hold) that killed the drive where it looks like the Vikes were coming back to score, the dynamics of the game would have been TOTALLY different. You also can't discount the MISSED hold by the Saint defender before the Favre INT, and the 3rd down catch by Kleinsasser where it didn't appear the ball touched the ground.

I think IF that hold isn't called that killed the Vikes early drive, the Vikes go down and score, and the dynamics of the game totally change. The Vikings' defense would then have made the Saints MORE uncomfortable and anxious to where they might have coughed up the ball. The Vikings D might have risen to where you would have seen the same guys we are now calling out for not making plays, would have made some HUGE plays. The Saints might never have gotten a chance to run ad nauseum wearing out the Viking DL with their big bodies on the OL.

I also think IF the Vikes went down and scored on that drive where the holding call killed it (after a GREAT run by AP), the OFFENSE might have found some rhythm, and the guys we are complaining about (Berrian and Harvin), might have ended up making many key plays.

I'm NOT saying that one drive killing hold stopped the offense for the night, but it was one more contributing factor.

BINGO

The defense had the Saints offense really on edge and playing poorly.

Amazing how much better our pass defense is now than a few years ago

Just think if Jerad Allen had of come to play

Allen didn't do all that much in the playoff game either, they must have a good LT.

I think, like in the movie Butterfly Effect, you change ONE thing, and the entire thing could have been different. I think if that hold wasn't called that killed that early drive, the dynamics might have changed, and Allen MIGHT have then ended up having 3 sacks with a fumble recovery.

I think eventually the offense improves.  You have to figure they bring Walker back this week and as Favre gets more comfortable (In Shape) and gets a feel for everyone on the field it'll be a lot better.  Favre probably didn't audible a lot last night because things are just not in sync yet.  Once he starts calling the plays from the line and changing the dip shit calls Chilli is sending in we'll see this team start to attack both on the ground and through the air.  Its going to be just like last year....We just have a stiffer schedule than last years opening games.  But like JC said, we need some wins early.....I suggest a heavy dose of AD!

That being said I think any range from 10-12 wins is very possible.  Frazier found a way to keep this team in the game last night and will continue to have to do that for a few weeks.  Yes, its a tough schedule, but if this team thinks it is as good as it does, then these tough games should be looked at as tough for the opponent as well.

Gonna watch it again but at this point I am going to disagree. At least twice a WR was running wide open and better passes by Brees score TD's on each. One was only off by the smallest of margins. That's two not counting the drop in the EZ.

I say that because a couple of times we ROCKED their WRs and after that they started dropping balls.

I think the Brees fears the Vikings' pass rush, and it's just enough to make the timing off a tad.

The Vikes can start picking up guys that were released today and not garuntee the $$$$.  Why Walker is not back on the roster already I don't know.  He's way more valuable than Lewis and won't choke like Berrian.  Walker is the kind of receiver that will fight for a catch.....not fear it!

I have no doubt they are looking hard at what vets are available...as the Vikes and Saints can sign any of them right now and no other team can until they've played their games.

Are you still sure the Vikes win in Philly later in the season, or do you think it goes the other way with Vick starting ?

If Vick starts it may be close but the Eagles are not a very good team. Most likely Kolb starts and the Vikings will rout the Eagles. Their offensive line is brutal and their running game is nothing to fear.

People in Philly are split on Vick like the Hatfields and the McCoys. Some hate Vick with every fiber of their body and there are enough of them to make it hard for Reid to give the job to Vick even if he wins the next two games.
