If Spielman had this team lined with depth he'd be a magician. We'd be contenders not STARTING a youth movement/rebuild.

No, he would have done his job

How many years has he been here now?

At what point is he actually held accountable for a shitty roster?

I give him a flier till last year's draft. While I'm sure others had input, ChiliDog had a strangle hold on all roster decisions.

1st game predictions..

Someone says "musgrave sucks" on first failure to convert a third down to a first down..

Someone says "frazier sucks" on first series that doesnt produce a score..

Someone syas "spielman sucks.." no matter what..

Someone will say "our safeties or secondary sucks", first time a pass is completed against us...

Someone will say "our lb's suck.." first tiime a running back gets past the los....

Someone will say "our OL sucks" first time a TFL or sack happens....

Bank on it.

But most of what you just posted is true Dan!    Do we actually have to play the game to know all that?  You just summed it all up!

As is yours?

Or mine?

We find out in the next weeks watching the team we love.

Lets watch and see what happens

Me....I think the Vikes surprise a LOT of people this year.

But I've had purple shades since '65

Opinions are just like hemrhoids and cowboy hats. Every asshole gets one sooner or later.

I never begrudge people's opinions, as long as they don't try to pass them off as fact or "reality".

There are going to be moments when all of those things are true, Dan, and moments when none of them will be true. The season is wrapped around that. You can focus on the moments or enjoy the season from start to finish. Yeah, some things are going to be brutal, but most teams are aware of that "reality".

Was returning from my 14 year olds baseball game and Jud Zulgad was on XM radio.  He predicts a 4 win season....He's sure a lot more tuned into the team than we are...and I know a lot of people don't like him, but if his prediction is true, this team will be cleaning house in 2013.  Well, if the Myan's are wrong that is....

1 vs Jacksonville W
2 @ Indianapolis L
3 vs San Francisco L - could be a lopsided loss
4 @ Detroit W upset win
5 vs Tennessee - W
6 @ Washington L - disappointing loss after 3-2 start
7 Vs Arizona W bounce back win
8 vs Tampa Bay L - disappointing loss in final seconds
9 @ Seattle L -
10 vs Detroit W
11 BYE WEEK
12 @ Chicago L lopsided loss
13 @ Green Bay L
14 vs Chicago L
15 @ St. Louis W
16 @ Houston L lopsided loss
17 vs Green Bay W A win over Packer backups

I get 7-9 out of that. I could see 8-8 if they get some hits on Luck early and win at Indy.

1 vs Jacksonville W ---> W
2 @ Indianapolis L ---> W (Luck aint going crazy on us with no running game and a shitty oline.. sorry).
3 vs San Francisco L - could be a lopsided loss ---> L (but, this is one of those games where a team sleepwalks in and gets beat. watch out!).
4 @ Detroit W upset win ---> L (I'd like to see the upset, but I dont see it. Maybe if we get SF napping, we will have some unforeseen momentum).
5 vs Tennessee - W ---> W (Another young QB takes one on the chin).
6 @ Washington L - disappointing loss after 3-2 start ---> W (See above).
7 Vs Arizona W bounce back win ---> W (Arizona is going to be terrible).
8 vs Tampa Bay L - disappointing loss in final seconds ---> W (We will see how this one goes though).
9 @ Seattle L ---> W (If Wilson plays).
10 vs Detroit W ---> W (We will steal one here).
11 BYE WEEK
12 @ Chicago L lopsided loss ---> L (Back to Earth game)
13 @ Green Bay L ---> L (See above)
14 vs Chicago L ---> W
15 @ St. Louis W ---> W
16 @ Houston L lopsided loss ---> L (Close game, but we lose)
17 vs Green Bay W A win over Packer backups ---> L (Packers need the game as much as we do).

I get 7-9 out of that. I could see 8-8 if they get some hits on Luck early and win at Indy.

There is 10 wins. With the right swing, it can go as high as 11. With the wrong swing, down to 6. But, 10 is doable with some help and of course, some good football from the Vikings.

The key will be to start strong. Its alot of sauce early in the schedule. Those are the games we have to win.

If we can have 6-8 wins at the bye, we will look good for a WC, perhaps the division, although I'm not ready to go there.

1 vs Jacksonville W
2 @ Indianapolis W
3 vs San Francisco L - Moss Explodes!
4 @ Detroit L  If Cook doesn't have an outstanding day against Mega-Tron.....This could be ugly quick!
5 vs Tennessee - W
6 @ Washington L RGIII Runs Wild!  (I will be at this game)
7 Vs Arizona W
8 vs Tampa Bay L
9 @ Seattle L
10 vs Detroit L
11 BYE WEEK
12 @ Chicago L
13 @ Green Bay L
14 vs Chicago L
15 @ St. Louis W
16 @ Houston L
17 vs Green Bay L

I think this is realistic.  And I do reserve the right to change my mind based on how the season plays out....but a 5 win season is about as high as I can go at this point.

Too many question marks:

How long will it be before Peterson is really back?  Does Frazier use him too much, not enough, or somewhere in the middle?

Can Ponder "Get it?"  He's had a complete off season.  Training camps, OTA's, Film etc... Does he come out and "play instinctually"

How long will it take the OL to gel and does Load finally move his feet?

Is the DL as bad as what we have seen at times in the preseason?  Will teams just run the ball up the middle at ease?

Can the LB's cover?

Can the secondary cover?

There are a lot of 1 year contracts on this team....will it be a "me for all" kind of season with these one year guys looking to earn big next season or will this team play like a team?

Can Leslie Coach?

Will Musgrave succeed in year two? For so long this offense has been "predictable"  Can Musgrave bring in something different?

Who gets hit by the injury bug?

And if the answer to your questions are not soon, not enough, no, no, long time, no, yes, yes, no, no, yes, no, no, no, no, and lots of players, then about 5 wins is in the cards.

I refuse to remove the purple glasses until the Vikings at least lose their first game the new season. At that point I may relent and begin to assess their situation realistically. Until then?

We should defeat the Jags in week 1...

Will the Colts really suddenly be a great team this year? Probably not. We could win that one too.

The way I see it, that would allow me to live in blissful ignorance until week 3... at which point if we could somehow manage to over-achieve and upset the 49ers, I could use that victory into extending my delusion all the way into week 4!

At that point, with momentum at our backs, perhaps this group of Purple youngsters will refuse to acknowledge that they are not supposed to be good enough to beat Detroit.

Suddenly 4 - 0, sitting atop the division... the next 5 games all seem win-able...

Titans, Redskins, Cardinals, Bucs, Seahawks... All beatable teams.

C'mon people, drink some of this purple kool-aid with me!

At this moment, we are UNDEFEATED in regular season play.
