How in the hell does Memphis run off 25 consecutive wins and NOT get a #1 seed?

They're coming out of that West Region.

Well, nothing's changed my opinion that Pitt is my pick to win it all this year.

I actually kind of like Washington to beat UConn as well.

************************************
Pitt was my preseason pick, but there are a couple of things that could slow them down.  If the officials are quick with the whistle, and don't let them play physical, that could hurt.  Also, their perimeter shooting isn't the best at times.  They have struggled against the 13 defense, and I bet they'll see a lot of it.

Both, Young and Blair can take over games and Fields takes care of the ball better than any G in the country.   Wanamaker has been really good off the bench, but they aren't real deep and that could be trouble if/when Blair gets in foul trouble.

I sound like a broken record in basketball with you, man.  But I agree with that.  Blair in foul trouble is the thing that really concerns me.  There's just no dominant team this year.  I do think if they meet UNC they could also have problems with Lawson's quickness.  But Blair would make Hansbrough his bitch all game long.

I actually was fine with Duke matching up across from Pittsburgh. Though I think Duke has to get through the Sweet Sixteen before I even start getting excited about them, I think they match up okay against Pitt. If the threes are falling (the biggest IF for Duke this tournament), Scheyer/Singler/Hendo are going to give them fits spreading the floor--plus, you've always got the Coach K refs advantage, and Singler/McClure/Thomas can flop with the best of them (get Blair in foul trouble?). I think UNC and Louisville would've been tougher matchups for the Devils.

Any sleeper picks for the final four, or does everybody have the #1 seeds?
Missouri and Arizona State could make a lot of noise, IMO.  If USC can get past their first round game, they could be trouble too.

Oklahoma seems to be getting very little respect from the experts.  Griffin and Warren, at their best, can absolutely dominate.

My pretenders:  Wisconsin, Marquette, Michigan State and Illinois.  Looks like a geographic bias, doesn't it?

The Kansas/WVU match-up is really interesting to me.  And I really like the potential Duke/Texas match up.

Hopefully this thread will get a little more action tomorrow afternoon.  Where you at, DJ?

I would hope that some of our other resident ncaa experts get in the pool:

In fact, I'm willing to give 2 to 1 odds to anybody (that hasn't yet joined) to finish better than me in the pool.
Those of you that have already joined, I'll give 7 to 5 on the money.  Somebody needs to take advantage of my arrogant wineheadedness.

Post the wager amount before game time Thursday morning, and we're set.

Yo Pete,

I agree on Oklahoma.  IMO that OK/UNC game (if it comes to that) could be the best game of the tourney.

I actually do (boringly) have 3 of the 4 #1's making it, with Memphis being the exception.  I guess my "big upset" is Washington over UConn, though I do think Washington will have a tough time in the 1st rd.

I also think Michigan State will get beat early, personally, by USC.  I just don't think the Big10 is good at all and I think USC is hot enough to make it to the Sweet 16.  Going to be interesting.  I better avoid this thread today.  With new ownership and work being crazy right now I'm not able to watch the games during the day this year, so I'm tivo'ing  the entire first rd and plan on watching it tonight.

I swear I filled out my bracket on Monday morning when I first saw it.  I missed all the stuff on Sunday night.  Thought I was being original by picking Wake Forest for the Final 4.  Now I see all the experts are picking the same.  Guess that means it won't happen.  Same with Villanova...I'm seeing a lot of the so-called experts picking them too.  Pitt has burned me too many times in the past.  Can't do it anymore.

Final 4:  Wake, Memphis, Villanova, Illinois.  Illinois is out to prove they are really the class of the Big 10.  Memphis over Nova in the championship game.

Watch out for Mississippi State, Clemson and Arizona State as other sleepers.  Illinois, Clemson, and Arizona State are in the same region as traditional Big Dance clunkers Roy Williams, Syracuse, and Oklahoma.

I have Illinois losing in the first round

They are extremely offensively challenged right now.

Any team that doesn't score 40 points in a conference game is doomed to not get very far.

w/o a healthy Lawson, I don't see UNC getting to the Final Four.

I went Louisville, UConn, OK and Pitt......If Michigan State doesn't play better, they will get bounced in the 2nd round.

Took Utah St and Dayton to get to the sweet 16...otherwise, no lower than a 5 seed advancing past this weekend.

Not once, but twice

I just looked and for some reason we are way down on participants then from prior years

Illinois is going to struggle with PG play.

Personally, I have the anti-Big10 bracket this year.  I don't think I have a single Big10 team making it out of the 2nd rd.  It's just not a good conference at all right now.  I also don't have a single Pac10 team making it past rd 3.  The ACC and BigEast are just a class above the rest of college ball right now.

I keep hearing that the Big10 is so bad this year but if you look at matchups, the results don't back it up. IMO, it's a media-driven myth built on the reality of the often boring style of play in the defensive Big10.  Granted there were a couple of bad losses like MI St-UNC or Purdue-Duke, but the quality wins far outnumber these losses.  For example, the following matchups:
- 8th ranked Big10 team beat #2 ACC team (ACC tournament winner)
- 7th team beat #1 Big East team (current #1 overall)
- 8th beat #2 Pac10
- 3rd crushed #3 Big12
- 1st crushed #1 Big12
- 4th beat #1 Horizon Leage (currently ranked in top 25)
- 9th beat #4 ACC (ACC tourney runner up)

Obviously, we'll soon see how well the league does in the tourney but so far they've matched up pretty well.  Like I said, I think the fact that the style of play can be boring to watch and the strong D which makes it look like there is no offense leads people to just assume they can't play with other conferences.  The game results tend to say differently.
