Bryant Gumbel did a piece on Real Sports about Jennings. At the end of it he said that they talked to 10 NBA GM's and asked them where they thought Jennings would be drafted. Some said top 10 and some said NOT even top 20. Made me wonder how many teams are actually sending someone to Rome to scout him.

Rubio and Young would be great. They'd fill the seats.

I'm not big on Thabeet, but if they could work out a good trade for either Al or Love, I wouldn't be horribly disappointed with Thabeet. Love would probably have to be the guy to trade though. You're not going to get any offense out of Thabeet for several years.

I know, this should be on another thread, but hell, hardly anybody posts here anyway.

Thabeet still scares me. I love his shotblocking, but he looks so timid and awkward at times out there. I see him really struggling if teams are allowed to be physical against him.

I think Aldrich and Love would be a really good 4/5 combo, but Aldrich's HS buddy on TWolvesCentral said that after the loss Cole seems really determined to stay in school another year.

Going back to my "ideal scenario" of Rubio and Young with our pick and Miami's, I'd be tempted to work a trade back up into the late teens/early 20s with the Boston and Utah picks and take a flyer on BJ Mullens if he comes out like he's saying.

He's a HUGE project and he should probably spend a full year in the D-League, but if he works out he'd be a great addition. And it would give us a good year to see how Love and Jefferson play together or decide if we want to move one of them.

Aldrich could be a top 3 pick, next year, and I really think he should stay.

I wasn't a big fan of Love coming out, be he surprised and impressed me. Aldrich simply cannot run the floor like he would need to for the NBA. He also gets tired in the half court set and settles for mid-range shots way too often. Who knows, maybe he could have the same magic transformation that Love had, but I doubt it. He disappears too often. Personally, I think Aldrich, if he comes out, would be a lesser version of Love. I don't see that combination working.

Mullens needs a ton of work and he's so limited athletically that it would be a big gamble.

Thabeet scares me too, but the Wolves need a center, even if it's only defense for now. I think his footwork sucks and he has very little lower body strength, but I think he's coachable.

I'd agree with a lot of that, not surprisingly. Aldrich does have potential to maybe be a Pryz type guy, but probably not yet.

And yes, the Wolves still need a true C, for defensive purposes, in the worst way.

I think EVERYONE is in agreement about the Wolves needing a defensive center. Actually we need improvement defensively in a lot of positions.

I'm not a fan, but if he's still on the blocks, I'd reopen talks with Chicago about Noah. There is something off about him, but he's long, athletic and is a very good rebounder and shotblocker. He'd work as the 3rd guy in our 4/5 rotation. And like I said above, I think if we actually had some guys that played perimeter defense, I think you'd see a big jump in both Al and Love's defensive effectiveness.

If we miss out on Rubio, whether he's actually in this year's draft or not, what's everyone's impression of Brandon Jennings? I think he could be a breath of fresh air at the PG spot for the Wolves.

I'm looking around at some NBA Mocks (and you can find a ton of them here), and Jennings seems to be the first or second PG off the board, depending on the presence of Rubio in said drafts.

Would Jennings at 5 and, say, a Patrick Patterson or Jerome Jordan at #20 work for anyone?

I like Patterson a lot, but really, he'd just be another PF to the mix on a team that already has 2 that they've invested heavily in. Hell, they need to trade one of those 2 longterm still IMO, not add another one.

Jennings is a tough one to gauge since we don't get to see him play. If we end up around not getting Rubio, I'm starting to be swayed towards (god help me) Thabeet with our 1st pick, and maybe Ty Lawson with Miami's. And I'd still trade whatever I could (Boston pick, Utah pick, Smith or Miller?) to get Sam Young. I think if Thabeet works out as a player, he may be a long term better fit with Love (Thabeet and Jefferson seem more likely to occupy the same space) and then Jefferson would eventually become a really nice trading chip. Miller, Smith and Telfair all become very expendable.

Lawson/Foye/Telfair
Young/Foye/Carney
Brewer/Gomes/Carney
Love/Jefferson/Cardinal
Jefferson/Thabeet/Cardinal

I see Calipari jumped ships when he that some great recruits coming in to Memphis. Since they already committed, don't they need to school to release them in order to follow the coach?

I think I disputed the opinion that the Big 10 was crap. My position was that the Big 10 was full of a bunch of mediocre teams. And I think that's accurate. MSU surprised me, and happened to play their best basketball of the season in the tourney (which is a good thing) but there is no possible way that the Big 10 was the best conference in the country, no matter what the Sagarin ratings say.

I will happily admit that Izzo is, without a doubt, one of the top 3 coaches in the country.

Agreed. Just because one team had a 2-3 game stretch of good games at the right time does not mean that a conference is good. The Big10 still is/was not a good conference this year, at all.

I see Memphis to recruit has withdrawn his commitment. Can he do that? Didn't Coleman have to sit a year after withdrawing from BC?

When there's a coaching change you can definitely change your mind, Jim. And I have absolutely no problem with that. A coach should be about 50 percent of why you choose a school as a top player.

And for the record, I'm choosing UNC and UConn as well. But then again, this has been my worst tournament at predicting in my lifetime.

I'm sorry Dustin, I don't like it. I think he can change but sit out a year like any other transfer.

Thabeet seems to jog every time down the court. His game will need to develop both mentally and physically to have any serious impact in the NBA.

You don't think kids should be allowed to leave if their coach transfers? That is a HUGE part of the decision-making process. That's a lot of these kids' livelihoods you're talking about. I have absolutely no qualms with recruits being able to switch in such a situation.
