They are a fairly deep team that plays equally well in the up tempo game as well as the half court set. Very dangerous team with a great coach that's playing for it all.

I actually do (boringly) have 3 of the 4 #1's making it, with Memphis being the exception. I guess my "big upset" is Washington over UConn, though I do think Washington will have a tough time in the 1st rd.

I also think Michigan State will get beat early, personally, by USC. I just don't think the Big10 is good at all and I think USC is hot enough to make it to the Sweet 16. Going to be interesting. I better avoid this thread today. With new ownership and work being crazy right now I'm not able to watch the games during the day this year, so I'm tivo'ing the entire first rd and plan on watching it tonight.

Looked like men vs boys.
Sometimes, it DOES work to put all the good players on one roster.
They've had incredible recruiting classes there and this is what happens when it "works".
They cranked up their D all tourney long and basically smothered the last couple teams.
UNC was a HUGE favorite going into the season if you look back, and it was correct.
The crowd and pressure early didn't slow them at all, they looked calm and hit shots that most good teams will clank for awhile.
Their tall players are smoother and more talented, and their small players are quicker and more talented.
Once Williams got them to play together, it was over for everyone else.

It wasn't much of a game. I'm just suprised this is the first one they won. I think the last two years, they arguably had better teams.

No it wasn't much of a game. I laid the 7.5 but actually found myself rooting for a (minor) comeback from MSU.

I think this UNC team was much better than the previous couple of years.

They didn't have much of a bench this year, but if Ginyard wouldn't have gotten hurt, that would have changed things tremendously. Most of the season, and especially last night, they had a great balance of perimeter and interior players. Guys like Thompson and even Davis have wingspans like seven footers and they are athletic. From 1 to 5, every one of those guys are extremely athletic.

I know a lot of people were pulling for the underdog, but in some ways it is nice to see all that work and talent pay off. Very often the most talented team falls way short of expectations.

Just like the Yankees, all that payroll and rarely has it resulted in a championship. Yes, I'm a NYY fan, but I also wish MLB had a hard cap.

No matter what the team sport, it usually does take more than just talent.

I think he still would be. I know that Coach Cal has a bit of a checkered past, but I'm not sure this particular violation is on him.

I think he has had enough of a checkered past where he no longer deserves the benefit of doubt. He's the head coach, he oversees the program, and he now has seen two of his Final 4 banners coming down.

He's a helluva coach, but I have no doubt that he'll do whatever it takes to get players in to his program. It sounds like someone took Rose's ACT for him, Rose's brother was on team flights without paying. No wonder he gets top 5 recruiting classes every year.

Kentucky doesn't care. They just want to win, and Cal will get them doing that very quickly. And then he'll escape just in time before the crap hits the fan again, and someone else will have to deal with the aftermath just like Memphis is dealing with now.

Ridiculous that he can just walk away and coach somewhere else with no penalty.
Punishing the schools that allowed him to break rules is right.
Letting him off with no punishment is wrong.

I would hope that the Alumni would stand up so these practices stop country wide. I know he isn't the only coach that pulls this crap. Wasn't their questions on Mayo also?

Both Petes, you pumped up for the season?

I can't wait. Going to be a fun one.

If I had to bet right now, I think I'd put money on Kansas to win it all, but man, there's some great possibilities at the top.

I do think Duke will be better than people think (yes, I know I'm biased) simply for the fact that their frontcourt is the biggest it's been in a LONG time, and Coach K's best teams are always when he has a real low-post presence, as it should be. The loss of Williams and Henderson is huge, but they should be pretty good. I think NEXT year (assuming Singler stays) they'll be really, really good, with Curry and Irving really helping the backcourt a ton and the Plumlee's growing up even more. They could win the 2011 title I think.

Don't forget about Harrison Barnes coming in next year as well (knock on wood). Can you imagine a late-season starting lineup next year of Irving/Curry/Barnes/Singler/Mason Plumlee, with Miles Plumlee/Ryan Kelly/Nolan Smith/Andre Dawkins/Tyler Thornton/Joshua Hairston? That is just a ridiculously loaded squad.

El Sid allegedly said the Gophs were having a hard time getting another good class in because they have so many good players.

Just a bad couple of days for the ACC. The Big10 has definitely improved, but I fully believe the ACC is still the best conference in the country, with the BigEast nipping at its heals. The Big12 is getting stronger and stronger as well.
