Love seeing Brodeur being the best player out there tonight ..... old warrior came up big.

The two-pad stack on the breakaway was hilarious ... and awesome at the same time.
Old
Skool
Turned nasty tonight. I likey.
Brown and Kopitar have disappeared for the Kings.

If you own any stock in businesses that have glass windows in LA, SELL

Sorry, looking right ..... so far

Yep, Jeff ... can't we all just get along?

Actually, with the legitimate missed call 5 seconds before the 5 minute major, that "sell" joke applies to NJ as well.

Different circumstances and emotions but same fate of store front glass....

Outta be an interesting 2nd Scott, what do you think? If things are "fair" I expect about a 5-1 penalty ratio from here on out.

Yep, we will just never shake the whole "well, ya, duh ... we will make it up to ya" style of officiating, will we?
Hell, it trickles down to us at HS.
After the first perid of our last section game, we had been penalized 5 times (with a major), and our opponents, once.
Waited for the refs to skate off, and got into it. They kept telling me to shut up and go, I kept saying "6 to 1? Really? Hows that possible?"
They were livid at me, to bring it up "Don't you go there!"

Here's a shocker ... at end of game ... penalties even. Even got a major on them.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Pffft ... doesn't really matter now
That unwritten rule goes ou the window when its 4-zippy.

Too bad. This was turning into a really good series.

Once again ... a not-so-familiar place will win a World Title/Championship/Series ...... when is it our turn?

Start of the year .... if you asked,  "MN or LA, who has a better shot of winning it all this year?"
First .... after they stopped laughing ...... they'd all have picked MN

WHY can't these great come-outta-nowhere seasons happen to us?

why whywhwywhwywhwywhwy!

Smothering performance by the Kings
NHLs still a copy-cat league
Get yourself a quick young goalie (pun intended)
A bunch of large, angry, fast-skating grinders who like playing both ways
Pick up some old vets and a flashy youngster or two
Don't focus on your start, focus on the finish
Get a coach who takes no shit from anyone  ....

Wait .... this isn't new.
But it was done to perfection this year by the Kings.
Yes, the  ...... Kings.

In line with our discussion  .... PIM - Devils 47 ... Kings 6
I've watched hockey for 50 years.
I've never seen that. Not even close to that.

Nope, just bad circumstances. Imo.
Over-amped. It WAS a major boarding penalty, just happened.
Always tough when a call HAS to be made on a major penalty, an un-intentional major .... where an unlimited number of goals can be scored.
Games can be over at that point. This one was.

PIM doesn't mean much, just meant you don't usually see the big discrepancy.
The boarding major and ejection racks up 15, so its deceiving.

The Kings burying chances on the major is good on them.
Devils had one earlier in the series, got nuttin, honey.

Special teams are huge. Always.

Stanley Cup Finals

Devils vs Kings

Has the potential to be very entertaining.
Both like the up-and-down style, full of guys who really get after it.
Both are playing and counting on a lot of people. Devils 4th line has 9 of their playoff goals .. thats freakish. Kings 4th line also contributes.
Looking for some good old fire-wagon hockey. Love that term.
Its been the year of the goalie, and there are 2 good ones here. Contrasting styles. Brodeur the last of the Mohockeyans, just don't see tenders like him anymore. Quick is the poster boy for the new kidz on the block. Fun contrast to watch.
Both are riding high right now. Don't think we'll have any idea who's better, until they are a couple games in. There's always a definite difference between the East and the West.
Saw some chinks in the Kings armor the last two Yote games, that I didn't expect. I'm usually a big West guy ... but this year, I think the better teams were in the East. (like I said ... could be dead wrong, won't know until the two styles clash)
I have no hate for either club. I've liked the Kings since Melrose and Gretzky, hell I liked em when they had Marcel Dionne and Charlie Simmer. (yeah, I'm old)
The Devils were always my team when we didn't have one, loved em during JLs run there, always pissing people off, but always hard to beat and play against.
I won't be upset by either team winning this thing, so it's going to be fun for me.

Devils in 6

Dead wrong.   (not surprising)
But like I promised ... not upset.
The Kings Magical Ride just never stopped rollin.
Fun season overall. Seeing some real passion return in some needed places around the league.
Had a fun year with y'all in here.
Hopefully next season, we will have only one dilemma ..... should we talk about the Stanley Cup Finals in here..... or in the Wild thread?

BTW
Can't believe I forgot this ....
Congrats Willie Mitchell!
First Class Pro. Warrior.
Came thru some concussion problems, has traveled a long and winding road.
Feel great for him. Thats the best thing about the Cup ... it usually tops off someones career in the sweetest way possible.
Not too long ago I re-watched our glorious run to the WC Finals from years ago ... and had forgotten just how damn good Willie was.
Congrats big fella.

That boarding, as you said, had to be called but it's utter BS that the exact same play wasn't called in the Devils favor about 10 seconds earlier. That doomed the Devils. They lost their team composure (and their coaches, especially Oates) didn't help either.

3 goals on a major is a back breaker. If they had calmed down and played, they could have weathered it. They didn't, and it cost them everything. Too bad but at least SOS didn't win a cup

LA deserves a lot of credit. They are champions.

That's really good for the league. It's sad that our team is not one of those teams.

Too early to speculate about next year. When's the draft, though? We should get a good young player.

Edit: The draft will be held on June 22–23, 2012 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is the first time Pittsburgh will host the draft since the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

One mock has this guy going to our team. We could use a very good defenseman.

Minnesota Wild: Jacob Trouba, D, USNDTP (USHL)

He's the most well-rounded defenseman on the board, and while he'll need some time to develop, he should find himself as a top-pair defenseman in a few years.

Something occurred to me that has probably long been obvious to the rest of you. The Stanley Cup has to be one of the most difficult championships to win. A long, long season, and then an endless line of best of 7 series ... it's a wonder any team survives that at all.

Similarly long seasons and playoffs for basketball and baseball.

I have always felt that the Superbowl was the biggest prize of them all (showing my bias because football is my favorite sport), but a team can win the Superbowl by winning a mere 12 games. That suddenly doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment at all.
