Remember when Brodour was a bad ass, even as a goalie?  When did he turn in to Vlade Divac????

Sweet win
Big lead, teased em, they took it back away.
Loved it.
Rangers are a collection of shove-y bitches from what I see.
They are pissed when the Devils don't lay down for them.
The Rangers quickly climbed my "don't like em" list. Quickly.
Oh... and Parise? Oh my. The guy is the answer to a LOT of our problems. Love his game.

One thing I was thinking about him the other day. Will he be willing to give up his captaincy wherever he ends up?

Dear Lord, please don't take me yet.

1. Vikings have a new stadium coming.

2. Perfect, Non-Wild, playoffs.

Holy Sweetness Batman
THAT was fun. Bar I was at, was rockin' ......
* Love Brodeur getting it done. Stud.
* Lundvist was also awesome.
* Jeff stole this one ... Gaborik once again played Mr Invisible. No surprise to us that know him. Dudes gutless. Don't miss that about him.
* How sweet was the PP goal of the Devils? Tic-tac-toe as good as I've ever seen. Finally. That was beautiful man-advantage play, just like its drawn up. Outside-inside-low-back door-in. I coach PP, that was beautiful.
* I also coach D-men ... my saying on the bench that guys get sick of hearing is ... "man or puck, never neither" ... and that is what cost the Rangers all series. Poor pinches at bad times. Pinching isn't the problem, not properly supporting the pinch ...is. Cost them the series and the game.

Sets up a great finals.
Two relatively unknown surprises to most people.
I like seeing some different faces. Should be fun.
Don't get Melrose's love for the Rangers. He tried hard not to show it, but he was really in their corner. Too many hockey guys think its important that they stay relevant. I don't agree.
They're tough tho, and will be for awhile. Some tough young grinders that aren't goin anywhere. The Stepan, Callahan, McDonough, Boyle types are Torts dream come true to work with.

Eastern Conference Finals
Devils vs Rangers
Hard to think the Devils will be able to score enough against the stingy Ranger defense, especially Lundquist in goal.
Should be low-scoring games filled with intensity.
Love Marty Brodeurs career, but I can't see him winning many games in this series.
Torts has the Rangers working hard all over the ice, and they have more talent than the Devils.
Rangers in 6
Never been more happy to be wrong. Great series. Could have gone either way, every game.

Western Conference Finals
Coyotes vs Kings
Pretty sure the puck will be in the Yotes end a lot.
Pretty sure the Kings will have the speed and talent advantage.
Also pretty sure that won't mean they will win.
Really hard to bet against Smith in goal for Phoenix, but if one team right now has it all working, it's LA.
Kings in 6
Pretty much played out that way. Kings are that grinding machine that just never stops coming.

Stanley Cup Finals

Devils vs Kings

Has the potential to be very entertaining.
Both like the up-and-down style, full of guys who really get after it.
Both are playing and counting on a lot of people. Devils 4th line has 9 of their playoff goals .. thats freakish. Kings 4th line also contributes.
Looking for some good old fire-wagon hockey. Love that term.
Its been the year of the goalie, and there are 2 good ones here. Contrasting styles. Brodeur the last of the Mohockeyans, just don't see tenders like him anymore. Quick is the poster boy for the new kidz on the block. Fun contrast to watch.
Both are riding high right now. Don't think we'll have any idea who's better, until they are a couple games in. There's always a definite difference between the East and the West.
Saw some chinks in the Kings armor the last two Yote games, that I didn't expect. I'm usually a big West guy ... but this year, I think the better teams were in the East. (like I said ... could be dead wrong, won't know until the two styles clash)
I have no hate for either club. I've liked the Kings since Melrose and Gretzky, hell I liked em when they had Marcel Dionne and Charlie Simmer. (yeah, I'm old)
The Devils were always my team when we didn't have one, loved em during JLs run there, always pissing people off, but always hard to beat and play against.
I won't be upset by either team winning this thing, so it's going to be fun for me.

Devils in 6

Was unaware of this ... totally unacceptable.
Especially Doan in the handshake line afterwards.
Thats a definite no-no.
Nip this in the bud, BETTMAN! ... its the one thing that sets the game apart ... there is none of that crap allowed.

Time to get the Finals going. Its damn-near June fer crissakes ...

I knew about all of it except for the stick throwing. Agree it was crap.

That being said, that hit should have been called. They called much worse. What the Yotes need to realize though, it was overtime. Sometimes the refs let them play, as they should.

that sucks for us. we need NJ to win to start the Parise sweepstakes.

It was a great game though. If that game featured Universe and Fleury in net, it would have been 16-15 LA.

As further proof that my man Melrose had his head up the Rangers ass ... he went on a 30 seocnd rant lastnight about how pathetic Game One was.
What?
Classic? Absolutely not.
I even had to re-watch it today on the NHL Network, to try and see his point.
It was NOT a terrible game, it was NOT sloppy, it was two young teams playing for all the marbles.
As Jeff said ... would have been an 8-7 game if crappy goalies were playing.
Quick and Brodeur weren't called on a lot, but when they were ... they made some awesome saves.
Expecting the greatest game ever played from these two styles is pretty damn unrealistsic, Mr ESPN HockeyHead.
I loved Melrose on a Dustin-loves-Joe-Mauer-Level .... but I'm quickly starting to develop a rash when he appears lately.
Relax, enjoy, watch, and stop interjecting your favorites into the equation Barry.

This will be a fun series
May not last long
Sure looks like its pretty even. LA may have the edge tho, just a couple extra big bangers that NJ lacks.
Our man Parise actually got a couple really dandy chances last night to be The Hero, and juuuuuuuuust didn't get er done.
Brodeur made a couple dandy old-school saves, laying out sideways on a point-blanker, shooting the toe out on a screamer, kicking the pads out on a flop .... awesome.

You should be the color analyst for the broadcasts. I appreciate your love and passion for the game.

Whoa! Humbled by that Bruce.
Thank you.

Glad it comes across. Its been my life 6-8 months every year since my kids were born 25 years ago. Love the game and the kids who play it.

Speaking of that ... Nikky Lidstrom hung them up today .... I know no one likes the red Wings (me included) ... but I'm not sure there's a hockey fan alive who doesn;t admit he's as good as it gets.
Smooth, classy, and talented as hell.
All you have to know is that hundreds of other NHL players tweeted today pretty much the same thing .... that he made the game look easier than anyone ever has. And that many of htem often got caught up watching him while they were supposed to be playing. Hockey is a huge "peer approval" sport. If they respect you and say it out loud ... you earned it.

Thats the answer to most "whats wrong with the NHL"? questions, imo.....

Dragging this out is killing the league, again.

NBC may have something to say about that, too. By the way, I really like how they do the games.
