Zahui B's numbers are particularly obscene when you factor in that she only played 22 min in the first game and 24 min in the second game. 35pts, 26 reb, 10 blk, 5 stls

Stollings gets her 2nd commitment for 2015. Juco PG Keyondra "Mercedes" Jenkins.

http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/112014aaa.html

"As a freshman at Central Georgia Technical College, Jenkins was named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) All-Region Second Team after averaging 16.0 points and 4.6 assists per game, while also finishing fourth in the league with 3.0 steals per game."

"This season, Jenkins had already been named the GCAA Player of the Week and is averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.6 steals per game for the Lady Titans."

Interesting. We are talking Big Ten title and I just checked the polls and AP has Gopher ladies at 28 while USA today doesn't even have them top 50. Banham is projected as the #6 pick in next draft. She would be the highest drafted Gopher since McCarville if that hold right.

Not only highest, but the only one since

Yep, she is going shatter Whalen's scoring record before the season is halfway through. I think the team as a whole is vastly underrated going into the season. Amanda Zahui B. was a preseason All Big Ten Selection and that was before anyone knew that she dropped 40 lbs in the off season. Between her and Shae Kelley, the Gophers are going to own the glass in the Big Ten. Wagner was probably underrated as a recruit because she played for a small school against other small schools. My own personal opinion is that they have a great shot at the conference title.

I think the talent has been there (for the Gophers) with the coaching being up and down.....now that we have the coach and a pretty deep bench....we have a shot.

The ladies won a close game yesterday 68-62 in Memphis. Rachel had 2 early fouls and didn't score in the 1st half and probably had a lot to do with it being a close game.

Yep, Banham picked up 2 quick fouls and didn't play the rest of the first half. This was their first legitimate opponent and it was on the road. Midling Conference USA team, so the difficulty of the game is a little disappointing.

Shae Kelly again hit 20pts with 20/10
Zahui B. 12 / 7 / 5 blks for the 3rd game in a row. She continues to have her minutes limited, which is a little odd.

Wagner only played 13 minutes and was shut out.

I think it is the same as Mo Walker....conditioning even after losing all that weight takes a while.

Good point. It also looks like Stollings prefers to have an extra guard on the floor for her system. Kayla Hirt is a wing player who is getting a lot of minutes as a defacto PF. That puts more speed and mobility on the floor.

Thoughts w/ Rachel Banham. Currently crying being helped off the No. Dak. court. Grabbed her right knee after a drive to the hoop. #gophers

That would be horrible if it is serious. They are setup to go a long way.

FSN is showing last nights ladies Gophers game and they showed how Rachel got hurt and it didn't look good because it came as she was pushing off for a layup. I was hoping it was her knocking the knee on the floor and just a bone bruise but I think much worse.

Good point Jim. When it happens like that, it's rarely ever good news after the MRI. At this point, I don't know if she would even qualify for a medical redshirt.

Sounds as though Rachel may indeed qualify for a medical redshirt...the Gophers must play 31 games for this to occur, according to a GopherHole source today. That 31st game would be game #1 of the Big Ten tourney. Saw the injury on TV last night and was so saddened by it. Knew it was serious right away. Glad it did not involve contact with another player, especially a UND player. The crowd gave her a standing ovation as they helped her off the floor, very classy by the North Dakota faithful.

#Gophers spokesperson had no update on Rachel Banham injury today. Hopes to have clarity tomorrow morning.

Their basketball crowd must be totally different than their hockey crowd. Two things that don't go together are UND hockey fans and classy.

I know, right? It was kind of bizarre to see. But I've got to give credit where it's due.

Rachel Banham will miss the rest of the season with a torn right ACL. Which I think we can all agree.. really, really sucks. #Gophers

Marcus R. Fuller @GophersNow
Sad news with #Gophers star Rachel Banham suffering a torn ACL. Was confirmed today. She's out for the season.

Looks like Carlie Wagner's development is going to have to accelerate. Zahui B. and Kelley will give them as good an inside presence as their is in the Big Ten. Kayla Hirt will be able to pick up some of the slack, but the only real hope of wing scoring is Wagner.

This was a huge win for the program. Their performances without Banham did not inspire anyone to think they could pull this one off. The back court had become a turnover factory in the first two games even though they won them. I guess good coaching helps you win some times when you aren't supposed to. No way this happens under Borton.

I watched it and never figured they could come back. But in the last 10 minutes they started getting the rebounds and making their shots. I think what really carried them through was having Nebraska short handed with 4 sick players. I have to think they had tired legs down the stretch. But still a good win no matter what
