ORIGINAL: twinsfan Could that loss have tasted any worse? The Badgers' go-ahead basket was made with zeroes on the shot clock when the shooter released the ball. But for some reason completely unclear to me, it couldn't be reviewed. Then Mbakwe makes the last-second shot to tie the game. But he's clobbered so badly before the shot that it's called off for a foul. His wrist is too hurt to take the free throw, which temporarily sounds like decent news. But no, Bo Ryan, in a rule that makes no sense, gets to choose the free throw shooter himself. And just to tease us, Williams makes the first free throw. But of course he misses the 2nd, and we lose by 1. I'm pissed. Did Mbakwe's "shot" really go in? I missed that. The rule itself makes sense. You shouldn't be able to feign an injury in that situation just so Andre Hollins (or whoever) can shoot in your place. Yes, the shot went in. The rule doesn't really prevent much of anything, because the worst free thrower could still fake an injury. Mbakwe was legitimately hurt because of the cheap tactics of the Badgers. When did this rule go into place? When I was growing up, I know you used to be able to pull whoever you wanted off the bench. And that's what the BTN announcers initially thought too, as they were saying Ahanmisi would be coming in to shoot the free throws. Even worse, why can't they review the shot clock violation with 2 seconds left in the game!??!?! That makes NO SENSE AT ALL!
