I think Flip has been subtly lobbying for a college job recently -- I have little doubt he'd accept the Gophers job if offered.

As for recruiting, all these kids want to go to the NBA -- Flip can absolutely sell that experience. And I have a hard time believing that guys like Trent Tucker and others in Flip's potential assistant coaching network couldn't be dynamic recruiters. I think Flip would be a guy that would absolutely get Gophers boosters excited and be one of the few coaches -- outside of Shaka -- who Teague could hire that would draw national buzz.

I think Flip would maintain the holding pattern this program is in right now. You might as well save the buy out money and keep Tubby if the alternative is Flip. He is a terrible coach.

Maybe. But who else is interested in this job? Perhaps Teague can find another Shaka somewhere. Who knows. But I think Flip probably gives you the best chance of getting one or more of the big 3.

Again, I just don't see Shaka coming to MN. He can do way better right now for programs. But would be awesome if he did. Failing that, I think Flip is the best realistic option.

If I'm Teague, I go to Tubby and tell him he needs to find a new coaching staff -- or at the least, he can keep Vince Taylor (top recruiter). Maybe that's enough to get him to resign and avoid the buyout. Good programs (and head coaches) have assistant coaches that are in demand. And yet Tubby's group has been together for 6 years. Continuity? No thanks -- not with these guys.

Shaka's style would be very interesting to watch in the Big Ten. To be honest, I'm not sure he'd be able to pull it off effectively.

That's a minimum. He's had some of these cronies around longer than that. Time to go.

Probably true about Shaka, but right now we prefer to be delusional enough to believe Teague would be the difference in getting him here.

I can't agree on Flip. He's got an NBA name and passion. That sells. I think he'd do quite well at selling the U brand in the midwest.

Isn't "a terrible coach" a little bit hyperbolic for someone who has a .548 career NBA winning percentage? I'm not saying he's the be-all, end-all. But I know he'd create a ton of excitement among boosters, and I think he could sell his NBA success pretty effectively to recruits.

No, he is a terrible coach. He couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs with a team built around KG until they added Spree and Cassell. He took over the defending NBA champs with the best defense in the league and they regressed badly. They were eliminated 2 years in a row by a one man team while their defensive prowess disappeared. The Pistons were in mutiny by the time he was fired. He has always let the inmates run the asylum, which is why the team imploded in the second year with Cassell and Sprewel.

I don't think his record of will sell all that well. His teams regressed and he was fired 3 times. Plus his record, such as it is, was a long time ago to most of the kids he would be recruiting. I doubt the boosters will be as excited as you think they will be. If they hire Flip it will, be a few more years of finishing in the lower half of the Big Ten, NIT tournaments and the best in state recruits going somewhere else followed by a discussion of who our next coach should be.

Nebraska will continue to win and improve under Miles.

But wait, Miles doesn't have the barriers that Tubby does.

Tubby has to coach at a football School.

Miles gets to coach at a school were Basketball has always been king and Football has to play second fiddle to the BB program.

Plus, he is able to recruit athletes to an urban Mecca like Lincoln.

How can Tubby compete when Miles has everthing like that in Lincoln going for him and his program?

I bet a buddy of mine $20 before the Illinois game that the Gophers would still be in with a loss. I've never wanted to lose a bet so badly in my life.

Even if (when

) they make the NCAAs as a 10-11 seed and quickly get put out of their misery, is there any way that you can't fire this fraud? I didn't think I could ever hate a head coach as much as Childress, but we're getting there.
