Never been more irritated by a presser
* Sid is old and dumb and needs to go away
* know very little about Teague but like him after that
* pisses me off that CCO brags about sending a bunch of guys to ask tough questions .... And they did
* hey pussies .... When's the last time you asked a tough question at Target Field or Winter Park?
* I get it ,,, send them to the U with pitch forks and torches. Send them to the pro facilities with marshmallows and cookies
* btw Sid .... A "top guy" in your mind isn't a top guy anymore. He has no clue about names, trends, or really anything within the past twelve years. He lives in a world where Tubby Smith is a big name. That world no longer exists.

Once again, kudos to Teague.
Handled some angry little people very professionally.
It's quite clear Tubby isn't bringing in donors or donations. Read between the lines, you smart-guy reporters.

Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us, Tim.

Tim did win the biggest bastard contest.

Somehow it all seems so hollow now.

Yah, but you get that at every presser. I laughed out loud when I read his dumb rant this morning on how firing Tubby would someone would have to start from square 1 recruiting Jones, Vaughn and Travis. He doesn't get that they weren't coming here to play for Tubby.

The U is an easy target. The Twins/Vikes can cut them off and they'll suffer.

Probably trying to stay and play nice with the bigboys to get the next radio deal.

Pathetic.

Babu, you're in trouble!!

Her tweet could be right...said that there was an oral agreement. Could mean the coach is still coaching right now. (Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

But wouldn't we hear that certain coaches have gotten permission to talk to certain schools? I can't see any AD allow that during tournament run

I wonder if Teague called the kids and asked them to wait and get new coach a chance to talk to them

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague said he has not had any conversations with potential candidates to replace outgoing men's basketball coach Tubby Smith, but already has several targets in mind.

"You always have a short list," Teague said Monday after during his news conference announcing the firing of Smith after six seasons with the team. "You always have people that you have in mind. Some are realistic. Some are unrealistic, but I have a list in mind. We'll work that and get a terrific coach."

Smith was fired one day after the Florida Gators knocked the Gophers out of the NCAA tournament Sunday night in Austin, Texas. Teague met with Smith earlier on Monday to inform him of his decision to part ways.

Teague said the process of finding a successor would be handled in house. No search firm will be hired, unlike how the Gophers handled the hiring of football coach Jerry Kill in 2010 under former AD Joel Maturi.

In the flurry of speculation that has surrounded the sudden coaching search, several notable names have popped, such as Virginia Commonwealth's Shaka Smart and former Minnesota Timberwolves coach and Gophers alum Flip Saunders. However, Teague was firm in establishing that he would not name anyone directly.

Smith's teams had perpetually underperformed in his six years at Minnesota, posting an overall record of 124-81 and failing to achieve a winning conference record.

The Gophers advanced to the NCAA tournament's Round of 32 this season for the first time since the program's 1997 Final Four run. But the tournament berth, which was the team's first in three years, came after the Gophers had stumbled to a 5-10 finish to the regular season.

Teague, who was firm and straight forward in handling a barrage of questioning for nearly 20 minutes, said the move to fire Smith had been an ongoing process.

"It's really a future decision," Teague said. "I didn't evaluate the NCAA tournament only. I didn't evaluate this year only. It's more a matter of evaluating where we are and where we are going. We want to build for the future and that's a huge part of what went into play here."

To bad Teague didn't shit can tubby before Schilling made up his mind. All you need to know about Tubby's coaching ability, is his kid was supposed to be coaching the guards in practice. Ya, that worked out well. Good riddance.

This will no doubt come as a shock to all. The Shooter is already trying to create the self fulfilling prophecy for Flip. One big factor... He will do the job the for cheaper. Most bad coaches will.

One of best recruits in the last few years, Austin Hollins, chose Tubby even though his dad (Lionel) was against Tubby's defense and slow tempo style.....that is basically why we have had trouble recruiting and keeping good PG (Cobbs, Joseph).  Rondo was a defense, assist PG first.  Cobbs and Devoe Joseph were the last PG with similar skills as Tyus Jones and both left the program.

So you are Tyus Jones...which pg has Tubby helped the most?  Al Nolen and Devoe Joseph is all I can think of.  Al got embarrased due to grade one semester and Devoe transferred out and those are the two best examples outside of Dre Hollins who truly is a SG...

So in 6 years Tubby has had very good PGs in Nolen, Devoe, Cobbs, and Dre and the team has not succeeded.  PG play is suppose to define how far NCAA teams go in the postseason.

Hilarious column by Shooter......who is more crazy, Shooter or Sid.

At least there are some at the PP that have reality caps on.

Loved Sansevere's take on this

http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_22867054/bob-sansevere-gophers-were-right-fire-tubby-smith?source=pkg

Anytime you have your coach hire their son as an assistant, the hire should be negated by the University as pure nepotism and should not be allowed.

Frankly, I am not too thrilled that a kid would play for their dad at a college or University.

Tubby's son reminded me of when Bobby Knight's kid was his assistant coach.

Bad combinations all around.

Meatsauce's sources say it is Flip Saunders and it will be announced in a matter of days.

I hope it's preposterous. If your going to hire Flip, you might as well have kept Tubby.
1. At 58 Flip is only a couple of years younger than Tubby.
2. Flip has never run a college basketball program.
3. Flip has no recruiting network.
4. Flip's first assistant hires would be his son Ryan and no doubt Don Zierdan. You would have a head coach and 2 assistants with no recruiting experience.
5. Flip has an empty ball sac.

Common is reporting that his sources say Josh Pastner from Memphis is the new Gophers head coach.

I believe Common's sources are usually correct about these things.

When were they correct before? I remember him gloating about it on one occasion, but I don't remember the circumstances.
