Agreed. I assume that's why Kaler hired Teague in the first place.

Pete, I get the sense that you feel the only decent hire that could be made was Flip...yet what about Teague suggests that would be a good fit? Why not hire Joel Maturi Jr. if you're just going to hire the guy boosters want and turn over the keys to him? I assume Teague was hired to be very involved in the building of the program. I don't get the sense that Flip would have been content with that level of involvement from the AD.

Thus far, we know (or are pretty sure we know) that one person (Flip) has been offered the job and turned it down. Although I know a lot of locals are up in arms that we haven't hired John Wooden yet, I don't see this search as nearly the disaster many are making it out to be. There are still lots of options out there.

It seems absolultely ridiculous to me that we've made a judgment on Teague before a hire has been made.

No, that's not the case. I think guys like Shaka/Buzz/Stevens/Hoiberg, etc., were much better options than Flip. But after those guys are crossed off the list, I'm not seeing a lot of guys that don't carry (in my opinion, obviously) a lot more risk than Flip. Andy Enfield has a lot of buzz right now, but man...I just don't know how I would feel about that one. Maybe at this point, the Minnesota job just has to accept a large heaping of risk, but I don't know if I can handle another Monson debacle that leads this program to the 12th of 12 jobs in the B1G (instead of 8th or 9th).

There are 50 available coaches who could have taken our roster into the Elite 8....the only games that Tubby won throughout the year were games the Hollins boys outshot the other guards and/or Tubby wore down playing 11 players.  He never ran a set offense or plays for Mbawke, Hollins, Williams, etc. except under their own basket.

Tubby can coach defense---offense not so much.

Tubby had a top 5 starting lineup this year and turned it into an 11 seed.....I think we could have Saul Phillips from NDSU and done better plus he would utilized our talent on the offensive side better.

Our roster next year is still posed to make a run.

Top 5 lineup?

I think that's being WAAAYYY generous.

I'm no Tubby fan, as I've made clear on here for years, but...

Yah, I would say Phil went a little over the top in his exuberance, but I get his point. The talent on this team was way better than a #11 seed. I would say definitely #5 regional seed if not higher. Tubby coached this team down.

No doubt. I think they were top 20 talent-wise. Just not top 5. Either way, certainly a disappointment from Tubby, per usual.

Thats the strangest looking AP All-American team I've seen in all my years of following College BB.
Just an odd, odd year.
Little or no star power.

Enfield to USC is essentially a done deal, apparently. But NoGood ain't panicking and his plan is working like clockwork, eh?

What do you think, Pete? Which is a better program to go to? USC or the U right now?

And truthfully, those two were the ones that make me go  the most.
Dont get me wrong ..... NICE players.
But if they're the tops on the All-American squad? Wow.
Shoudl have known it would be that way .... when Zeller was named pre-season pick for PotY. Zeller.

Oy vey. They seem like two pretty comparable programs, except one's in the B1G and one's in the Pac-12. I suppose that fact could cut both ways.

A rumor is floating around the interwebs (complete speculation) linking Wojo to Minnesota. If ANYTHING could make a few NoGood lovers flip to the dark side, I think a Wojo hire would do it.

On the bright side, at least Minnesota would lead the B1G in something: FLOOR SLAPS FTW.

Ya, that'd be my thought. I'd say all factors considered, USC's weather and alumni probably sway it, especially for a guy like him.

Ya. That's my point I guess. Those two are BY FAR the best 2 players of that 5 IMO (Porter's decent). But geez. Really weak year for that list.

Wojo's one of my favorite players ever and I think he'll be a decent coach in time, but wow. MN would have hired a worse coach than Northwestern just hired a day ago. Would be REALLY hard to justify that one.

The one upside to Wojo would be hearing Sid try to pronounce his name every week.

For a guy who often reminds us, Pete, that we don't know what is going on behind the scenes, I'm surprised you've decided to hate Teague so much -- particularly considering the lock-down mode his office has been in during this search.

Again, yes, there is always a risk that you end up with a Monson debacle -- but that holds true for any coaching hire. I think we can all agree that Tubby seemed like a good hire, but did not live up to expectations. With Teague's track record of identifying talented young coaches, however, both at VCU and in advising other mid-majors (which is well-documented), I'm comfortable with him making the decision. What about his track record so concerns you that you think he has no idea what he's doing?

Well, yes, this would make me question Teague's judgment.

Also, just because some of us haven't thrown Teague under the bus before we have any idea who our coach is or what Teague's plan is does not make us "Teague lovers." Some of us just wait for actual evidence upon which to base our opinions. Others like to rush to judgment based on nothing more than love of Flip Saunders, and hey, that's cool -- it's a free country.

Listening to Rosen this morning, he made it sound like Flip turning down the job was not over Ryan Saunders. He sounded pretty skeptical that Teague would have told him he couldn’t have him on his staff. There may have been some discussion around making sure he had an assistant who was top notch recruiter. Rosen said he isn’t sure how much Flip really wanted the job in the first place. He thinks perhaps he is biding his time until the Wolves GM job opens up when Kahn’s contract expires.
Even Granndpa Sports hinted today that Flip just didn’t think the job was a good fit for him.
I have been saying from the beginning that Flip is an NBA guy. His comments about the Gophers job on Barreiro’s show just left me the impression that he was luke warm at best about the job. He is a die-hard Gopher booster, who bleeds maroon and gold, but I think he was hoping not to asked.
