ORIGINAL: djskillz Though one thing I will say in Tubby's defense; it's probably too late. The biggest reason all 3 of those guys have succeeded, IMO, is conditioning. Rip and Miller were extremely well conditioned; ditto for Redick, among the best in the country. That's why they could run around like rabbits in a halfcourt set to find openings. Hoffarber's not at that level of conditioning, and can't get there now; that's work that has to be done in the summer/fall. Doesn't mean they can't use him more effectively/find ways to get him open with screens more, etc. though of course. Disagree Skillz -- the difference between Hoffarber and JJ is fundamentally athleticism. JJ, while by no means elite, has solid athleticism, especially for college. He actually has decent quickness and some bounce. Hoffarber has neither of those things. JJ can shoot on the move far more effectively than Hoffarber because he can elevate more. Hoffarber cannot hang in the air long enough to shoot effectively while on the move. Hoffarber also just is not quick enough to get open off tons of screens like JJ did. He doesn't explode off screens because he's just not quick enough in change of direction. And, he doesn't utilize the pump fake nearly as well as Redick does (one of the best I've ever seen with it). That's why, when people yell that Tubby should run Blake off more screens, I cringe. D-1 teams don't generally allow wide-open shots off a simple down screen. The player has to be both athletic and know how to use the screen effectively. Blake hasn't shown much ability to do either.
