Saying Al Nolen and vital in the same sentence is kind of funny. I disagree, to say the least.

Status: offline 		Are you in some sort of hate-infused state of denial? Is Ahanmisi ready to lead this team to the post-season? Should we pull our only non-freshman shooting guard away from his natural position full-time? If Nolen misses serious time this is a lost season, without question.

Yes, the Gophers probably need him, but he's not very good IMO. He does nothing all that well, IMO.

Status: offline 		The general concensus over on the Gopher Hole was that Nolen, Hoffarber, and Mbakwe should be in the discussion for MVP and out of the three Nolen is the worst basketball player but also the most important player to the team's success this year (with Cory Joseph's older brother having left). I tend to agree. Senior or not Ahanmisi is not ready to be a starting point guard (he looks very flustered at times) and we have no other combo guards let alone true point guards. Nolen will be very much missed next season. I think every facet of his game outside of reliable shooting is excellent.

Fact remains, we played our best ball with Hoffarber and Ahanmisi splitting time at point. Maybe Nolen is better served as a sideline cheerleader for the rest of this season?

Status: offline 		While I agree that Nolan's value to the Gophers is a bit over rated, the squad is definitely better with him than without him. He is an above average point defender. He has a good handle and is a good passer. And while he can't shoot the ball into the ocean from the end of a pier at high tide, he has started getting to the line more often which has been an asset. With that said, Nolan shouldn't be the make or break guy on this roster.

Check out the next intramural game on campus and find the guy that can handle it. All we need is a guy who can handle the ball a little when we need Hoffarber to focus on getting open for 3's. It really can't be that difficult to find a stop-gap.

I'd guess that Hoffarber and Ahanmisi split the PG minutes with another 10-15 of Hoffarber as the off guard. This will open up an extra 20 minutes or so for Armelin and Hollins.

Status: offline 		I view Nolan lik this. Would I prefer him out there at this point? Yes, for sure. Would any of you prefer Punto over me at 2nd? Yes. Would you prefer Gaborik over me at left wing, yes. Why? Because Punto hit a ball farther than I did and Gaborik has scored a goal earlier than I did. But they beat me by 2 days and that was years ago.


It's like confused-us said. Would you prefer a punch in the throat or a kick in the nuts???? Nolan gives us the best chance at this point but we ain't going far.

Only red shirt he could activate is Elliot Eliason, a lanky 7 footer from Nebraska. He needs to put on size, so the red shirt year will do him well. Plus, even without Walker the team can make do with just Sampson/Iverson/Mbakwe covering the PF and C minutes. Oto Osenieks is not eligible this year and Chris Halvorson has to sit out since he transferred.

I saw Iowa hammered Indiana, and NW got clocked by 32 points.

The NW game at the barn is a trap game. Esp with their 1-3-1 which gives MN fits.

Except that the best way to beat a zone is with good shooting, which Nolan doesn't do.

Hoffarber is going to be logging even more minutes. He'll have to.
