Yep, Tim. He was extremely successful at Georgia and has a lot of connections there. And Atlanta (and the state) has a ton of HS basketball talent. I just can't see him turning down a Georgia Tech job at all if it's open. And by all reports down here, it will be. Atlanta's only a 3 1/2 hour drive from Nashville so we get a ton of Atlanta news/rumors here.

Prior to his current gig, Georgia was the least successful team he coached.

Atlanta really wants Cremins back, but I doubt he leaves Charleston. And Radakovich has been adamant on keeping Hewitt. It might take a change at AD before we see Hewitt fired.

Not really. He was there for only 2 years, and in those 2 years they went 45-19 and had their first back-to-back 20-win seasons in school history. And then of course he parlayed that into the Kentucky job where he won a title with Pitino's team.

Not really what? Was he more succesful at Tulsa and Kentucky, or Georgia? Should be an easy answer.

How's your memory of how Georgians viewed the nepotism regarding Orlando jr.?

Why is this even an argument? Are you really saying Tubby was more succesful at Georgia than he was at Tulsa or Kentucky?

If that's your opinion, great. If the facts don't bother you, good for you.

Georgia under Tubby, a 4th place conference finish and a tie for 3rd. FIVE 1st place finishes in the SEC at Kentucky. Some of them weren't Pitino's teams either.

I'm not a huge Tubby fan, he has a title and that's that. He took over a 25+ win team, but he did still seal the deal. He dominated a strong basketball conference for several years, with his own players. He didn't ever do that at Georgia.

I'm trying to find a way for YOUR argument to make sense. No luck so far. Tubby took over a Georgia team that was 18-10 and 9-7 in conference. He lead them to 21-10 and 9-7 in conference. That's your argument?

Four years at Tulsa, conference championship twice, two sweet 16 appearances.

Just to be clear, if it is just your OPINION that Tubby was more successful at Georgia than he was at Kentucky or Tulsa, that's cool. But don't try to sell me some shit about 20 win seasons. Is that how you measure success? Do championships mean anything? Conference or National?

I don't want to argue about your opinions. I'd be happy to engage in a fact based discussion.

Look at the bright side, we "almost won" against Michigan State again. Somehow I got a feeling we're going to hear about how we would have won with Nolen.

I'll take the word of Jimmy Jackson who actually played in the NBA that the Gophers really miss having Nolen in the lineup then I do your word

crazy isnt it? I actually formulate my own opinions with no help from jimmy

What's Tubby's contract situation? And who do you guys think would replace him? I know Flip has been mentioned by you, Tim. And I could see that for sure.

If Flip still has a job with the Wizards he will stay there. If he gets fired when Tubby leaves the Gophers unfortunately will beat a path to his door. Maturi unfortunately suffers under the delusion that Flip is a good coach.

When does the new pres get sworn in? I wonder if he would let Maturi make the next hire if Tubby does ditch.

Generally agree that this year has been a disappointment...guys not coached up...zero perimeter defense...no decent plan when Nolan went down...not a single set play out of a time out...ugh. Not at firing stage -- I haven't forgotten the Monson years -- but my heart won't be broken if he leaves.

Embarrassing loss. This team cannot make winning basketball plays down the stretch. In the last 4 minutes of a game, they have possibly the lowest collective basketball IQ of any Gopher team I've ever seen.

They have no one to take over down the stretch. They don't even have someone to keep the ship righted down the stretch.

Wow, had no idea I would inspire so much thought. Did I say Georgia was Tubby's MOST successful stop? Huh?

I said he was extremely successful there. He was. 2 20-win seasons in a row, the only time in SCHOOL HISTORY for that program. And he loved his time there. Obviously he was most successful at Kentucky. I don't think anyone would argue that. And I didn't.

Not sure where you got that from.

You said he was extremely successful there. And my response was, excluding Minnesota, he was least successful at Georgia than anywhere else he coached.

Your response was, "not really". It doesn't appear that you want to debate his success at Georgia vs. Tulsa. You've inspired me to think that you are kind of a smart ass.

A month ago this team was 16-4 and ranked in the top 15. Now they're 17-11 and on the bubble looking in. Better off without Nolen.

JT2, I like your posts. But there are forum rules about name calling. I know Dustin personally, and I don't think he's a smart ass.

From ESPN/Gottlieb:

Coaching speculation
The hottest chatter in coaching news is the speculation that Tubby Smith will be on the move this offseason. Three different head coaches told me the coaching fraternity is abuzz over whether Georgia Tech will buy out Paul Hewitt (reportedly in excess of $5 million dollars) and land Smith.

Pathetic and disappointing season continues.
Thanks a lot for crushing the spirits of my 80+ parents, Gophers.
Some ugly, ugly, ugly finishes and losses this year. They are piling up.
