WOW. Umpire just calls a slow curve waist high center of the plate a ball. Seriously it is the worst ball call I have ever seen in all my years of watching baseball.

OK for first time Anderson does not sac bunt with runner on first and nobody out. Mezzenga singles. Now runners on 1st and 2nd nobody out. Will he let Vavra swing away?

Awkward double steal attempt by the lead runner. Strike us out, throw us out DP.

Yes. Never make the third out at third.

Yes. Never make the third out at third.

Did you see how he was running hard until he looked in to see if the throw was coming, then he kind of slowed up and didn't slide in aggressively?

Not sure. The fielder caught the ball in front of the bag and made a nice tag reaching back behind him. If the runner had slid OF side of third and tagged the base with his hand he probably would have been safe.

Great job getting out of the inning giving up no runs after runners on 2nd and 3rd no out.

What happened to our hitting. I really thought we were going to score 20 after 13 through 4. Now 3 inning with diddlysquat.

Not a pretty 9th inning, but we're moving on!

We shouldn't have given up any runs in the 9th. Pitcher got totally squeezed on what should have been the game ending strikeout. However, a win is a win. Now we just have to beat the national #3 seed Oregon State.

They aren't in yet, but almost a lock up 10-0 in the 7th.

Beavers are just slightly bigger rodents than Gophers. Sure they can swim and cut trees and build dams and such, but if we keep them on dry land we have the advantage.

I think our chances would be best underground. That's where Gophers are at their best.

You have to apply the information of the stat that is calculated over thousands of situations to the unique situation you are facing. Maybe Anderson didn't like that batter facing that pitcher. Maybe he thought it was a high percentage of a strikeout or double play? You can't expect that percentage to be the same in every situation.

It worked out.

If we win sure it worked out. All the stats are strongly against bunting the runner from first to second. We likely could have scored two runs if we hadn't bunted. We will of course never know.

Impossible to assume that.

Not assuming it.

If I understand this correctly the Super Regional is two teams one game. Seems strange to even call it a regional much less a super regional. Anyway we have to face an extremely good Oregon State Team at their home field. Here's hoping.
EDIT: I see it is a two out of three.

It does seem that northern teams have trouble competing. Gophers have amazing Big10 success but this is the first time they have advanced out of the regional in 41 years.
They do it with mostly Minnesota players also.

What are you insinuating? There's nothing wrong with Minnesota players. Ever heard of Paul Molitor? Dave Winfield. Jack Morris. Joe Mauer. Tom Kelly. Aaron Sele. Glen Perkins. Rob Quinlan. Brad Hand. Kent Hrbek. Dan Johnson. Ike Davis. Steve Lombardozzi Jr. Greg Olson. Jim Eisenreich. Mike Kingery. Bill Gullickson. Tom Kelly. Dave Goltz. Jerry Koosman. Dick Stigman. Jerry Terrell. Wayne Nordhagen. Tom Niedenfuer. Steve Comer. Jerry Kindall. Johnny Blanchard. Larry Rosenthal. Rube Walberg. Chick Gandil. Chief Bender. Bullet Joe Bush.

I'm saying we are competing with the southern schools with homegrown Minnesota talent. That's a good thing. Nice list of names.

He's the #Gophers rookie relief ace, and now @mxmeyer22 is the National Freshman Reliever of the Year according to @CBNewspaper.

Nice. Did any Gophers get drafted in this draft other than Vavra?
