Ricky,

I also have the box clicked that says "use your avatar as profile picture" (or something like that).  I don't know if that makes a difference.

What are you testing Ricky?

I'm trying to put put in an avatar. I've:
- change your viewing preference to "flat style
- clicked: upload my picture

- now what

- sheesh, I must me some kind of ....

I wish I could help you, but Toby had to help me.

No problem, Jim. I just feel fortunate to be at home with my feet up and lap top on my lap after making my way to the Cities and back yesterday. Things like avatars and professional sports team are presently in proper focus.

Nope, that didn't work, either.

What's the Enter URL box for?

Someone was looking for this picture recently (Rex Grossman being ... entertained).  I didn't know where else to put this:

There isn't a browse button on this site, that is why I needed Toby's help

When you click "upload my picture", the browse boxs pops up.

You have to click on the link, not the little thumbnail.

I finally figured that part out. However, I'm using a Mac, not something I can "right click" on or put in "my documents". I saved it to my desktop but still not having any luck.

I threw a jpg on the end and that didn't help, either.

But thanks anyway.

I'm on a Mac too (inlaws) and if you "save as" and then remember what it's called and where it's at you shouldn't have any problems. Otherwise I could reset your password and do it for you.

Give me a little more time, Tony. I think I've got the idea, now. I tried a pic of my golf team but it game back too large. I think I didn't give the helmet enough time -- didn't know it was thinking.

I gotta run for a bit but let me try the helmet one more time. I tried Lynn's liink but it must of been too large, also.

Duane & Toby,

I give up. I can't see what I'm doing wrong. I can get to the point where I go get the picture from my computer easy enough but I keep getting an error message stating: There was an error saving the file to the disk OR /Users/admin/Desktop/viking helmet.html is not supported. I've tried using the picture I saved and the one from your folder.

Also, I've tried both Safari and Firefox.

When you have some discretionary time and can load it up I'd appreciate it. I'm in no big hurry, though. Don't worry about changing the password -- I'll just change it back.

Sorry & Thanks

It needs to be a .gif file but if you can't get it by Wednesday I can put it in for you. Can't do it from the inlaws.

Thank you. I was going to give it a go at mom's because she has one of those PCs that I could of followed directions more specifically. It turned out what I thought was a helmet on a document here at home was the whole site -- I thought I was just copying the helmet. However, in the other folder I copied from(from God only knows where) it had the helmet in it and it didn't work. Whatever.

Oh well. My next project is to try and post a picture of my 15 year-old cat, Nikki. Good luck with that one, huh?

I have a question that has more to do with my i & eMac than it does this site. When I try to watch the UTube clips it plays for a few seconds than pauses. It does this about 10 times to get through the clip. Any (specific) advice on what I can do to fix it? Other than getting a new computer.

Sounds to me like time to dump the MAC.

You can adjust the video cache, that should help.

Or install more physical memory for buffering or adjust virtual memory for buffering.

also if you use a firewall or AV program they could cause problems.
my firewall blocks streaming video like youtube unless I turn it off, it's some thing about allowing sites to connect as servers, I could tweak it, but I don't bother with you tube enough to worry about it

Fargo, you must of missed the bolded part.

Sammy, it's DCL albeit the slowest one. I'll see if I can find the video cache (I'm assuming it the application or system folder)

Dan, I'm not sure why I would have a firewall on my eMac (home) but can see it on my iBook from school -- not that I even understand it much. I will try and play with the memory.

Thanks guys. If nothing else this site makes me learn a little bit

Ricky - mine does that too - although not quite as bad.  I can usually get through about three minutes of a video on youtube and then it starts that buffering.  If I wait a few seconds, it starts up again, but if the video is very long it'll do it another couple of times.

I've just chalked it up to the fact that I have an elderly computer.  It's on the list of things to update around this joint.

It's mostly about internet speed and if you don't have a very fast one you will get lag in videos.  One of the best ways to counter this is to wait for the video to start and then pause it for a few moments.  The video will still download while it's paused which will it allow the download of it to get ahead so you don't have the buffering stuff.
