Yeap. Excellent. Just going back to Koster's goal. We don't (from I have seen so far) have gastly TO's like that. Like you said, a very smart group. Been a blast so far.

What do you all think of the job Bob Motzko is doing? I played football with him in Austin, Mn in the late 70's. Stand up guy and a really good hockey player.
What he has done in Minnesota in the 3 short years is pretty special. Where ever he has gone, he has been successful and players seem to work really hard for him!

Makes me wonder how the previous dry-spell coaching managed to fill a roster that wasn't full of these type of kids.

It makes sense. Every time.

Can't have every blue chipper on the planet. Need lunch pale guys to bring it together. Our championship teams weren't that until we brought on guys like Pohl and Koalska.

Love Motzko
Knew if they left him alone and let the transition settle in, it'd be ok
Seems kinda too old-school, but he's not.
Super guy, part of his personna is a regular Joe, and it works.
But he's sharp as hell. Love what he did in St Cloud
And anyone around the Gophers program since the late 90s knew there were a couple guys who woulda killed for the job.
But Donny wasn't going anywhere.
Blais wanted in and got too old. It almost happened to Motzko too.
So glad he got the dream job he wanted. He bleeds maroon and gold.
The thing about his teams is they will get some talent, but no matter how much talent they get, they will work hard.
He had a couple St Cloud teams that were damn fun because of that.
My favorite Motzko story was about 5 years ago our lowly HS is playing in the section semis in St Peter
Weather delayed it several times, at GAC, you don't set a time, they set your time ...and we got a Monday night at 9 pm, which actually became like 10 pm before we started. There was one kid on the whole rink that was considered a recruit, and not even a top tier one.
Anyway, walked past the zamboni room between periods, its about 11:15, in an ugly game, and boom, walk right into Motzko
I think at the time they were like top 5 in the country. And here he is, probably the lowest rated semi-final in the state, 150 miles from St Cloud, and he's there. We chatted, I quiz him and he's like "its my job man, I love watching ANY hockey, have a great third"
Tells you about the man. And his humility level. Used to run into him when he was wearing out the road between St Cloud and Sioux Falls, same thing, getting gas In Marshall at midnight, there he'd be. Hard-working sob, always in a good mood. He loves the U. We're lucky.

I have to admit that I was dead wrong about Motzko. Not a fan of the hire at the time. I fell into the too old...too old school camp when Coyle hired him. I'm happily pooping black feathers from all the crow I have to eat.

I loved him because he took Class A guys
Thats a thing
Some coaches won't take 'em
And it always ends up costing 'em
Lots of coaches doubt Class A players.
The smart ones don't.

Same here, but I saw him as one of those niche coaches. The guy who finds the right program in the right division who builds a team of guys who were just off of everyone else's radar, gets them to play the total team game and give the big boys fits.

Could see the tears flowing the last couple minutes
That meant a lot to him, especially the shutout. There.
Some of the best saves I have seen in last nights game. Incredible quickness and recovery.
He was focused in and unbeatable.

Congrats on the shutout.

It's kind of weird to me that if you're up by 4 goals in the 3rd period, you don't take that opportunity to rest the kid and get the backup some work. Rarely see that in hockey. It's something that should be explored.

Good stuff
Remember them both well
Sweeping rebounds for your goaltender can take him from good to elite
Meyers is so good, he's in the right place at the right time on every shift
Invaluable players

This bunch does things regular teams do not
Its like every rink rat came together and decided to team up
Sorensons getting harassed by two Wolverines, they come screaming into the Michigan zone down the wing, all three guys, they're hoping to drive him thru the boards .... he screeches to a halt, while they converge, he turns back into the play, this starts their confusion ... he spins his body to protect the puck, and wraps it forward, but off the boards as a bounce pass.
the two Michigan guys are following him like Washington Generals following a Globetrotter and you can almost hear them saying "we scared him off the puck" Uhhh, nope, theres a Gopher flying a step or two behind the play, reads it perfectly, picks up speed and the puck and drives it from the wall to the net for a great 1 on 0 chance. Meanwhile the two Wloverines and the Gopher are in a 3car pileup at the blueline, watching it unfold.
Hockey sense, reading the play, using each other. it takes the game from difficult to easy. Very smart kids on this team.
The outlet never changes we always say, its the same play ... thats true, but its done differently by different level of players
This group uses touch-touch-touch and we're out. No dangerous cross ice stuff that turns back on you. Everythings forward and with purpose.

Jason Zucker would be a cancer to this team.

nice try

There's not one hockey coach in the history of hockey ..... pulls him last night
And no, you didn't hook me, I'm here anyway.

How about getting another guy a little game time in case he's needed later in the season (injury, illness or poor play from starter)?

The other two goalies see better shots every day in practice, than they will see in games.
They'll be fine.
Your starter is on a historic pace.
Pick something else to put on the hook please, this bait is dumb and tasteless.

This bait's worse.
He's too old.
And his game wouldn't fit on any college team.
And yes, his teammates would love snickering about Carly.

Great story SMF. That is Bob in a nutshell. Love to see him get a TITLE.

Gophers men's hockey ranked No. 1 in nation for first time since 2014
The Gophers are 8-0 and moved to No. 1 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online poll.

OH NO! Here comes the curse of being rated #1.

Seriously, who else were they going to rate #1? This is just a great looking team.

They played this run to see how everything was going to go.

Currently figuring out the JAN schedule from what I read.
