They get too cute sometimes but yeah, they are damn good.

When we hit them with that 1-2 punch to tie it, the game was over IMO. What a mind job to get shutout one day, grab a couple goal lead and then get sucker punched like that 😳

Thank goodness for Gopher hockey since Gopher basketball seems to be a total downer (can't say personally since I don't watch basketball at any level).

I was very impressed with the top line but the key seems to be the 2 Hobey Baker finalists on defense.

I'd love to say Gophers hockey should win it all this season. But it's hockey, so "should" is overly optimistic. I'd put their chances at higher than any other team, but it's only about 25-30% in reality. Looked great again tonight.

You could tell they hadn't played a game in 2 weeks and it took a while to get back up to game speed, but after the first 10 minutes they started to get going. Talent-wise, next weeks B10 championship game will have possibly the 2 best teams in the country playing. It should be a good game and could go either way. Both teams will be in the NCAA tourney and both could very well get #1 regional seeds.

Gophers may have not won the B10 championship game, but Rhet Pitlick had the Gopher goal of the year in the game.
Check it out.

Great goal for sure but my coach would have been livid. That defender was falling for his hands and not staring at his chest. Hands can fake you out, a chest can’t. Bad defending but a hell of a goal 😳

My favorite part was twirling his stick during his celly.

The NCAA doesn't want Minnesota teams to dominate the tourney, so they put all 3 teams in the same regional so only one team can move on......

St Cloud beats MN State Mankato to move on to the regional final. Mankato carried the play for the first half of the game but SCSU got a goal on the PP to open things up. After that score SCSU was better and Mankato was unable to get any goals.

The Gophers took a couple of periods to get going, but once they did get going the goals just kept on coming to the tune of 6 goals in the 3rd period.
Canisius was in the game until and ill advised hit to the head of LaCombe. That 5 minute major penalty got things going and spelled the end for Canisius.
Tomorrows game against the Huskies should be a fun one. Either way a damn good team from Minnesota is going to the Frozen Four.

I didn't like the tone for the Gophers in that game and it doesn't bode well for us moving forward, IMO. We are very nervous for 2 periods.

I don't like the way the B10 sets them up for long stretches between games at the end of the season. Last night was their 2nd game in 3 weeks....it's hard to be sharp when you aren't playing games.
The more they play the sharper they look and the better their passing is..... They looked pretty damn good in the 3rd period last night. Now they have to duplicate that effort for a full 60 minutes. If they do that odds are good we win.

So, what did you think about the "hit"? If that were called on us I'd have been livid.

I thought it was a good call. Hit him in the head and they have been calling those the same all year, no need to change it in the NCAA's in my opinion. I didn't see an angle that showed any shoulder on shoulder hit, it looked like all elbow to the head to me.

If it had gone against us it would have sucked, but I would have expected a major on it either way.

Damn, the B10 having a heck of a showing so far. MN-9 Canisius-2, OSU-8 Harvard-1, and so far Penn St-6 MI Tech-0 with Michigan still to come later.
I guess playing in a tough conference like the B10 helps come tourney time.

Michigan continued the dominance with a 11-1 beat down of Colgate.

Gophers move on to Tampa for the Frozen Four after taking down SCSU 4-1. A well deserved win as they were the better team and pretty much controlled the play throughout. They took some dumb penalties that was out of character for them, but they only gave up the 1 goal so it worked out in the end. The Huskies had a great season so hats off to them.

Not gonna lie. I think I have Gopher Hockey PTSD. This game scared the hell out me from the get go. I fully went in knowing who the better team was but still……did not want to face them. After 10 minutes my anxiety got worse. We were shell shocking them and we couldn’t get one past him😫

All in all, we played a really great game minus the penalties you mention. Very uncharacteristic. On to Tampa!!

I was not at all comfortable until LaCombe got that shot past Castor for the 3-1 lead. And even then I knew the Huskies would be throwing everything at us after that. Going in I pictured a hard fought game going into OT with the winning goal coming on some fluky bounce or something....glad it didn't come to that.

I don't know much about BU but I wasn't all that impressed with Quin and Mich this weekend. Either I downplay how good PSU is or Michigan just didn't have it. They looked so much more dynamic against us. Probably style of play between the 2 but Michigan just looked flat all game long.

I've been enjoying the recent years with Wisconsin Badger's men's hockey being pretty dismal, but that's about to change with Mike Hastings moving from Mankato to Wisconsin. I wonder if Mankato's program will take a step back as a result.

I think Hastings is going to do a good job in Madison, although I suspect his recruiting strategy will be different than it was in Mankato. I don't think bringing in 21 and 22 year old freshman will work as well there as it did in Mankato. Time will tell.

On another note, Cooley and Knies are in the final 3 for the Hobey Baker award along with Fantilli from Michigan. It would be fun to see a Gopher win it again.
