From Alipate's father:

"Does he deserve a shot? Yeah," said Alipate's father, Tuineau, who played one season with the Vikings in 1995. "Moses has worked super, super hard. But [b]coach Kill is very clear about what he wants him to do. He wants him to lose weight. Whether Moses likes it or not, that's just the way it is. They want him to drop like 20 more pounds, to be about 250 or 240-something. As far as him trimming down, I think he can do it. But he's got to work harder than he's ever worked in his whole entire life."

The bolded and underlined parts are most telling about Kill. Players know what is expected of them and they have to work harder than they ever have. Honest to God, I am actually having to force myself to back off my enthusiasm about this guy. They haven't even played a game under Kill, but he has me absilutely stoked about the coming season. I hope I am not just setting myself up for a big disappointment.

Alipate weighs 270 pounds?

As a QB? His profile for the U has him at 230.

What, did he go to the Daunte Culchoker school of pissing away your career?

It used to list him at 230, but they've updated the roster.  He's now listed at 6'5" 281.  He was running 3rd team behind Gray & Parish for most of the Spring.  And Shortell has not even hit campus yet.  I'm not sure Alipate's future is at QB.....

Honestly, it's almost unbelievable that a coach in the state of Minnesota says things like that. It just doesn't happen.

At least, win or lose, the man has a plan on how he wants things done. Better than whatever it was Brewster was doing here.

I'm just happy he's putting all his bluster and anger into practices and not press conferences.
Don't sell me anything, just shut up, work your kids, sell your program to them, and just win, baby.
And as of now, Kill's doing all of that except winning.
Its already been a nice change of pace from Punky Brewster. He had to be worn out before he even got to practice.

That's all true Jim. My concern is the same as Jeff's. That Maturi finally fell ass backwards into the coach we have been waiting for and he will get snapped by a perenial power.

Listening to the spring game they mentioned only 6WR. Since it's only spring all recruits not in class. Anyone know how many more expected? Then I guess there will be walk ons

Kill not letting off on the "hard ass" routine.
Pretty scaled-down spring game, just what this program needs right now.
Bare bones, my-way-or-the-highway approach. Alipate looked smoother than i thought he would, and Gray continues to be our most impressive athlete.
Looks like we have some D-backs who can play, hard to tell with our receiving corps, tho I suppose.

I was more impressed with Alipate then Gray. Only passes Gray completed were little dump offs. I want to see more of Alipate running since they stopped play as soon as he was touched. I think he can role over tacklers

I'm real happy about Alipate's performance. He has supposedly lost 15 or 20 lbs since the start of spring practice. From what I heard on the radio this morning, Alipate was close to 300 when he had his first meeting with Kill. Jerry let him know on the spot that this was not acceptable. He got down to 281 by the start of spring practice and is around 265 to 270 now with a goal to get below 250. It looks like Kill got his message across. Son if you want to succeed at this level there is whole other of work you have to put in.

Gray came into camp and left camp #1 on the depth chart because he was in fantastic shape and devoured the playbook before spring practices started.

Was wondering about the weight issue.
I remember thinking last week (when you mentioned how big he was) .. the guy must be huge
He (Alipate) looked fine.

"I'm not being disrespectful to Adam Weber, but I wonder what Marqueis would have looked like if he had gotten a lot of quarterback reps. When I look out on our field, I say, 'Boy, there's a Big Ten, Division I athlete. That's what they're supposed to look like.' ''

What a couple of years wasted. Gray should try to get a coaching stupidity redshirt to play one more year.

And yet Allipate out played him in the spring game except for one QB keeper

Alipate needs to shed some pounds. Was he heavily recruited outside of Minnesota? Signing Gray out of Indianapolis was a miracle - use him at QB!

Alipate QB'd against the second team. He came into the spring fat and got demoted to 3rd string during spring practice. The only reason he played QB in the spring game is that the #2 guy got injured the previous week. Besides Alipate hasn't spent the last 2 years shuffling from QB to RB to WR back to QB back to WR....

No they played against same defense with regular rotations. And it has nothing to do with switching positions because they are both starting new with a different offense

Tressel loses a great job.
He needed to take the heat and did.
Almost impossible to run a power program completely clean.
The kids ultimately have the power to get your ass fired.
