I've been yelled at by a coach like figure. (It wasn't a "sporting situation", but it was similar in other ways including competition was involved) My take was that he trusted me and he cared enough about me that he wanted me to change.

I think we all agree that Baker is being a pussy about the whole situation. That isn't in question and neither is Kill's policies/motives.

Good discussions here and everywhere else on the Barker Blow-out.
Its an interesting topic.
I've been surprised how few are backing, or at least rationalizing, AJs take on things.

Same here.
I'm also ok with the fact that it may have opened some eyes to Mr Kill's approach.
He gets results. Or at least has, to this point.
I think some mistake his demeanor as a good old boy with some issues of his own, as signs of weakness.
I think we're finding out he's pretty damn hard-nosed and pretty damn old-school.
I'm still amazed at how well Marquis Gray has handled all the excrement he has had to handle... this season, especially.
And never falters. Every interview, the same... seems like a great kid who simply didn't pan out as expected.
I think it was Pete who talked earlier about his mis-use, even now, and I couldn't agree more.
You have to be blind to not see he is clearly one of our best athletes, and he now gets ignored for large portions of the game.
He's proven he's ok with the changes, USE him. If you don;t want him running the show, fine, but USE him.

That's what I was looking for, your opinion. I respect it.

I don't mind old school, hard nose, but I realize that these kids are different than yesterday's kids.

I think you over estimate Gray's ability/skill set. Jack of all trades.....

He should have been developed/coached better. He's Joe Webb, isn't he?

I'm really not even sure WHAT he's good at, so I don't know about over-estimating him

, but ... I just see a guy with speed and size and escapability.
And for as much improving as we have done in that area, we still have a longggg ways to go.
Imo, he sticks out like a sore thumb, in that regard. Every time he touches it, I kinda go ... "oh my, thats different"
I've been shocked at our receivers ... even when Barker was a part of it ... they look like they came straight from Hutchinson or Pillager or Marshall .... severely under-muscled and severely under-developed.
They've got spunk and some speed, but not near-enough of anything to accomplish anything, at this level.

I get you. Gray is the best athlete on the team. IMO, he should be really good at one thing by now. That's not a knock on him.

I've said it a hundred times, your best player needs just as much coaching as your worst player.

If Gray was a Wolverine, what position would he play?

Is Gray a better football player this year than he was last year?

Probably not the kind of player Kills staff would even look at.
You are right, he's regressed, if anything.
Found it interesting to watch Michigan ... when they played us, and GASP! Shoelace or whatever his name is, wasn't able to play ... they plug in the back-up and he was probably more dangerous in some ways.
Maybe not quite as dynamic, but really, really sound and good.
And I remember thinking ... Mr Robinson, you may have played your last game.
He didn't ... but they did move him to RB last week to get him back on the field.
You could almost see Hoke and his staff having a epiphany as the gaem unfolded .... "uh-oh .... this guy probably shoudl have been on the field"

Kill and his staff appear to me, to be great "grunt" producers.
Pretty good, but not dynamic, and not dangerous. Will tackle. Will block. Will carry straight ahead.
Will not jump over anyone, deke anyone out, or razzle-dazzle you, sir! Which is probably ok for us at this point.
So frustrating to see RBs the last couple weeks turn east-west, and get sliced down EVERY time.
Man, we were SO blessed with runners for awhile. Mason turned em out like they were skittles.

Devin Gardner is a better passer than Robinson. They have A LOT of athletes. Rich Rodriguez had bad timing. He could have prospered with some of those guys.

Back to Kill. We got to start in the right direction somewhere, right? So many things this program was lacking. Kill's not going to fix them all, but I like what he brings, so far.

Personally, I think this football program needs a great recruiter more than they need a great coach right now. I understand it's not easy when you suck and don't routinely turn out pro's. Vince Lombardi couldn't coach this team to a conference champion.

We also need to address the elephant in the room. Kill needs to retire before he dies on the sidelines. I hate to even mention that but somethings are more important than football.

Isn't it kind of odd that with Notre Dame ready to win a national championship, there has been very little talk about how Ohio State is probably a better team? If it was any team other than Notre Dame, there would be a lot of talk about "well, it's kind of a tarnished championship because they're not able to settle it on the field against unbeaten Ohio State." But Notre Dame is treated differently. Don't want to put any question into the potential championship for the great golden domers....so don't say anything about Ohio State's undefeated season. It's like the media needs a Notre Dame championship to be as pure and clean as possible.

Can't agree more, Matt. Thee #1 ND hater here. Nothing surprises me about them anymore.
Its driven me away from watching as much as usual. I know what will eventually get talked about, so I just avoid it at all costs.
I liked it better when they were an overrated sucky bunch of underachievers. For what seemed like decades.

Agreed. Distracting.

Disappointing end to the regular season. Frustrating to only win games you are supposed to win.
We're missing something big.

MarQueis Gray is the Gophers' most valuable player for the second straight year, the team announced Sunday after its annual awards banquet Sunday afternoon. Gray, who opened the season as the starting quarterback but moved to receiver after suffering knee and ankle injuries in the season's third game, was also named the winner of the Paul Giel award as the most unselfish player and most concerned about Minnesota. Gray joins Laurence Maroney in 2004-05 and eight other Gophers as back-to-back winners of the award. The last quarterback honored in two straight seasons was Rickey Foggie, who won it in 1984-85 and also 1987.

Coach Jerry Kill, who suffered a seizure during halftime of Saturday's 26-10 loss to Michigan State, did not attend the banquet at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.

Tailback Donnell Kirkwood, who finished the regular season with 849 rushing yards, was chosen the team's outstanding offensive player, and defensive back Michael Carter was named the outstanding defensive player -- an award won by his cousin, cornerback Tyrone Carter, in 1998 and 1999. Punter Christian Eldred was named the outstanding special-teams player.

The inaugural Gary Tinsley Award, named for the former Gophers linebacker who died in April, went to his former roommate, linebacker Keanon Cooper. The award will be given annually to the player "who best embraced Tinsley's underdog personna," the university said.

The award for best competitor on the field and in the classroom went to linebacker Aaron Hill for the second straight year. Receiver Connor Cosgrove, who has become active in cancer fundraising since being diagnosed with leukemia two years ago, received the team's community service award, while senior linebacker Mike Rallis was honored with the Neil Fredenburg Award for "the most courage and love of the game."

Quarterback Philip Nelson and tailback Rodrick Williams shared the award for best freshman on offense, while defensive tackle Scott Epke was the top freshman on defense.

Offensive Back of the Year – Donnell Kirkwood
Wide Receiver of the Year – Isaac Fruechte

No kidding on the punter ..... really? I sqwacked about him weekly it seemed. I guess at least they didn't split it between him and our shaky, scary, clueless placekicker.

This has to be the worst Gopher bowl team of all-time. And possibly the worst bowl team of all-time.......for any college. Their best win was against Syracuse.
