Some Gopher notes from Strib writer Kent Youngblood.....

- Brewster said Marcus Sherels went full-go Monday and will start at cornerback against Purdue.

- It appears the Gophers’ offensive line is getting tweaked: D.J. Burris and Ryan Orton battled at left guard much of the season. Now Burris has been moved to the right side — where he is more comfortable –with Orton starting at left guard. This unit is finally healthy and, perhaps, ready to gel. I believe the line, with all the youth and injuries, has been a problem at times this season.

- Troy Stoudermire is listed as a backup at wide receiver. That plus the fact that he has already been used taking a snap from center, along with returning kicks, shows that this kid is a quick learner. Perhaps his future lies on the offensive side of the ball rather than at cornerback.

- Adam Weber says his right knee feels great. The Gophers coaches have said that he will be fully included in the running game. Still, there is swelling in the joint and probably will be for much of the season. ”Yesterday, Monday, I was able to be more shifty than I have been,” he said. ”It feels good. But, day to day, you never know. It’s managing the swelling. The training staff has done a great job of being prepared.”

Also, some rumors that Purdue RB Kory Sheets is having issues with the QB & the head coach.  Let's see if that shows up on Saturday...

Thanks Karl.
It's near the end of October and we're still playing meaningful college football games.
I love it.
Thanks for the info.

Brewster has to make his team feel that just because they are bowl bound, they haven't gained anythig until they are secure with a Jan 1st bowl game.

There's an article today in the Strib about Will VDS (can't spell it ) and how wasn't even noticed until the 2003 Championship against my former high school.  Pretty cool, I didn't even know Delano was there in 2003.

The Tigers are alive and well.
Have some in-laws with kids in school there.
Seems like a heck of a nice place, Jeff.
If I remember right Willie had a run-in or two with the authoritaaaas on his way up.
Solid citizen lately tho. Can't always cut people the first time they screw up.
He's been an absolute stud this season.
Whens the last time MN had one of the Top5 O and Top5 D players (in the same season) in the Big Ten?
Its been awhile.

I get the feeling Brewster feels the same way you do Jim.   Anthony LaPanta said something to him the other day along the lines of praise at how well the team is doing this season, and Brewster's response was a cautionary - "remember, we haven't won anything yet."

I think he seems like the type of coach who is always motivating his players to keep striving for that higher level.   Never get complacent.

Very cool.  It was a very quiet, small place when I grew up.  In fact, Hwy 12 was still, well, Hwy 12.  It's still very small by East Coast standards but it's gotten much bigger.  In fact, when the wife and I went home to meet the fine folks here, I was astonished.  We had a Subway and an Apleebees

Very happy to see we are 1pt dogs to Purdue this week.
C'MON PEOPLE!
This is the game of the year. A win against Purdue keeps hope alive.
We get a couple of our toughest remaining games at home.
And Iowa at the end may decide it all. (as to what bowl we get)
The opportunity is there .... the sky is the limit at this point.
Do you realize we could be talking Rose Bowl if we keep taking care of business?
It's time to get excited.
I'm not counting anything as hatched .... I'm just saying it's awesome to be at the end of October and games are still meaningful. Baby steps.

Again, that new stadium next year will be HUGE.  Just HUGE for the Gophers and Brewster.

I can't wait.  I've never made it to a Gophers football game, but I plan on making it out there next year for sure.

Gophers seem lethargic today at Purdue.
No sustained offense.....
One long pass (71 yards), one missed FG.
Just starting the 4th Qtr..
Biggest quarter of the year for the GG boys!!

Our O-Line is killing us.

Couldn't get an early 3rd and 1 to continue a drive, and the 4th and 1 was a killer (even though it was a horrible spot on the 3rd down play).

Plus Weber is getting killed back there.

We are not playing like a top 25 team today.
Sustain a drive here and score and the game is yours.......11:00 minutes to go.

Good win for the Gophers. Weber didn't have his normal game, but was good enough to pull it off. Defense so much better then under Mason. True Freshman Green showed even when Spry comes back, he should have the job.

If Penn State beats OSU, and the Gophers go undefeated vs. NW, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa, I think they go to the Rose Bowl. The rule used to be if there was a tie at the top, the team who hadn't been to Pasedena the longest got to go.

If that rule is still in place, PSU would go to the BCS title game and the rodents would go to Pasedena.

I was completely wrong about Brewster, I'll eat my crow.  Great win by a very young team.  The gophers could win 10 games this year.  WOW

Brewster has to be a front runner for Coach of the Year at this point. It's nothing short of amazing what he's done - and WAY ahead of any possible schedule.

It wasn't pretty but I'll take it.  Online was shady but so was the play calling at times.  Decker isn't 100%, that's just a guess but he didn't look like himself today.  Over 100 yards in penalties will kill you.

My boys to 20th in the polls.  I made a joke earlier about them getting more win than the Vikes and better QB play.

I may be a soothsayer.

Hell, at this rate they might get 3-4 more.
