We can't blame the refs guys. Seriously, this is a mediocre team. I know the media in the TC's have "crowned his ass" but Kill and his staff have a lot of explaining to do. This was a badly coached team today. I'll list the positives first:

1. defensive secondary - very good
2. kickers
3. D overall - there will be negatives but, overall, they have been good

Negatives:

1. This coaching staff has no idea how to open a game. I've given Kill a LOT of credit on this board. He (and his guys) make some amazing 2nd half adjustments but damn, can we come out with a game plan to play well??????????????????????????????????? It seems like we are always outcoached in the opening.
2. This Offense isn't even B10 bad, it's just horrible. Play calling sucks, no play makers, line is weak and we have no QB. I read all the propaganda. I know ML is tough, good leader ect......but I'm sorry. He sucks as a CFB QB. What makes it even worse is, there is no alternative. Shev comes in and it's like they just put AP in. It's a, 100%, without a doubt, run. Pretty damn easy to defend. It's even worse though, it's counter productive.
3. James is a nightmare as a KR'er. He made a weak fair catch on a ball he actually housed and then let about 3 roll down inside the 10 that he should have fair caught
4. Coaching overall. 3+ "illegal formations" and no workable offensive game plan?

We are in trouble this year. Why does Kill suck so bad as getting offensive studs in recruiting? He seems to be doing well on D. Our QB situation means we are minnows in the CFB world for about 3+ years. And, that hurts me to say.

One redeeming thing today ... Bielemas revitalized Arkansas team just got thumped by the Toledo Rockets.
Sometimes the best karma comedy writes itself if you let it.
And the Notre Dame team everyone wanted to crown as Kings, looked pretty sickly today as well.
Understandable let-down by the Gophs today I guess. Should be happy it goes down as a W.
In the past we would have found a way to drop that one.
Just frustrating tho.
Our offense and particularly our QB ... aren't elite CFB quality at this point. Not even close.

Cool man, bad timing, I guess. Sorry if that felt against you, it wasn't meant to. I totally understand but I think it was a decent officiated game today. Sure, there were bad calls on both teams, b
I think it was even.

That being said, there were about 29 things to be pissed at, refs didn't make my list.

No worries man, was just sayin ...
I get really fed up with watching ANY CFB game, and seeing incompetence.
Just really feel they are overall, incredibly bad. Esp in the B10.
They are swayed more than any other major sport officiating crews, imo, by reputations and home crowds.
Was just a general observation.
S'all good, man.

I have no problem with officials who are paid to purposely suck.
Its the ones who are paid to get it right, and can't come close.

Sadly, not much was done to upgrade that area this year.

Leidner or bust.

Yikes

I'd almost happily accept going back to that horrific "running/option QB" thingy we had going years ago.

My gripe about the officiating was out of frustration that the Gophers finally stopped shooting themselves in the foot long enough to take the lead with less than a minute to go only to have field goal range gifted to CS by virtue of a horrendous call. But I agree with Jeff; in the grand scheme of things the officiating wasn't even a blip on the radar today.

Leidner is terrible. We were fed all the bs about how QB's improve in year 3 and it has proven to be crap. He is still inaccurate, holds the ball to long and fumbles. He is just God awful and they can't expect to get where they want to be with him at the controls. Kill needs to make a change and I am not talking about Streveler, who is an even worse passer. I am talking about throwing Demry Croft to the wolves. This kid has more talent in his little finger than the rest of the QB's on the roster combined.

Sadly, the receivers drop a high percentage of those rare occasions where Mitch is on the money. Where is Jeff Jones? He was the grand prize of his recruiting class. Kill moved him out of the position that made him a top recruit in the nation to receiver and buries him on the depth chart there. I thought the objective was to find a way to get your best players ON the field.

We got lucky today, pure and simple. Squeaked out a game we have won by at least 2 TD. Things have to change ahead of the Big Ten season. Better teams than Colorado State will do what they did today. Sell out against the run and dare us to pass. And they will succeed where the Rams failed.

Nice win for Michigan State. Ducks weren't going to beat them there.
I don't know how the BIG 10 will look this year, but our top 2 are as good as anyone.

Hopefully the Gophers have hit rock bottom and get their offense figured out.

Thanks for bringing up Jeff Jones.
Ultra-talented HS kids seem to have a way of disappearing once they get to the U.
Really thought we'd see contributions from him by now. Somewhere, on the field.

Patterson the TCU coach last week said the game went in the most helpful way it could have for his team...they got away with a win, but it was a wake up call to fix some things and play a whole lot better.

This week was like that for the Gophers. To me it's a perfect outcome. Escape by the skin of their teeth with a win, but in the processed get embarrassed by a terrible offensive performance and QB in particular, and give them some extra motivation in these next two weeks to try to get it fixed.

The problem now is that they play two weaker teams, thus masking the poor QB situation we have. Leidner is not the answer at QB, and I don't believe he ever will be. Against weaker opponents he will do ok, but once we hit the B10 schedule he will flounder again. Streveler only comes in to run the ball, so everybody in the country knows what to do when he comes in....what a wasted play that is. Our offensive coaching leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion, and it all starts with their QB evaluation.

Yes I have my doubts whether they can get Liedner 'fixed'. Every game seems the same with him. He starts every game awfully. Not even coming close to receivers. Then in the second half he gets slightly better but still misses at minimum about a third of his throws.

I was hoping he culd take a step forward this year. He has not.

Wolitarsky, imo, saved Leidner from having to walk back to Minnesota on Saturday night.
The ugly numbers could have been even worse without several nice efforts from the WR.

One good thing, the stories in the usually-overly-positive Strib today all focus on needing better offensive, and esp, QB play. Good to see.
Was afraid it'd be more "oh, its ok" ... glad it's not.

This is one of the biggest problems, IMO. I'm sure Woli is a great kid and a hard ass worker. The problem is that he's our #1 option along with Maye.

No offense to those guys but they aren't exactly NFL caliber guys. You pair those type of WR's with a QB that has trouble finding the ocean, you are in trouble.

It seems to be something about Kill's recruiting. He seems to have no issues finding D and RB's. QB and WR's

No joke here, it's no wonder that Williams left so early. Why would he want to stay with ML throwing to him?
