Steve - I have to tell you that I felt such empathy for Nebraska at the end of that game yesterday. Partly because I feel like I've been there - watching my own team(s) figure out the most improbable ways to keep losing, and also partly because I was so hoping that Wisconsin would lose so that for the first time in about 10 years (just off the cuff number there) the Gophers could be ahead of the Badgers in the standings.

So in the match-up of Nebraska vs. Minnesota next week, the test will be to find out which team can blunder it away the worst.

I appreciate that Lynn. The Huskers are the only college team I follow more than the Gophers. Wisconsin is one of my 3 least favorite teams.
This Nebraska season has been the toughest we've had in decades. Loss after loss on either the last offensive play or in the last minute of the game. I had higher expectation for the Gophers this year. At least one will win next week.

I've never been in bar on a Saturday in my long life, without sharing space with at least a table of Husker fans.
I will give them credit, they are loyal, loud, and passionate.
Even all the way up here in my neck of the woods.
But I can honestly say that in all my 50+ years, last Saturday was the first time I saw them leave beaten, depressed, and downhearted.
Even when you've suffered tough losses in bigger games in the past .. they've always stayed loud and positive.
But as was said ... this year has been tough. It seems every game has come down to the last play, and every one has gone the wrong way.
Just a really tough stretch. That'll probably be all fixed, by their next big win. Its what we do, eh.

You guys have said but I'll echo it, again. I have no idea what goes on between Kill's ears sometimes. They continue to trot out ML at QB and it just makes me insane. The color guy today had multiple instances of "you can't win if your QB can't hit a simple 5 yard swing pass".

If you watch the offense, it's tailored around the fact that ML sucks. That shows that they know but aren't going to sit him. They refuse to let him sit in the pocket and try to deliver the ball. I actually LMAO at one point. The game was getting a bit out of reach but it was still "doable" by Purdue. It was first and goal at the 7. They called a straight QB sneak. Not a draw, a "put your head down and try to pick up that yard". It was the epitome of pathetic. How can a recruit want any part of an offense like that?

When your passing offense sucks as bad as ours, and you are up big, drop back and try to work on some things.

Agree on Leidner. I had high hopes for him this season that he might be able to turn a corner. He turned a corner all right...into a dark scary alley.

You have to love his competitiveness, and he's done what was needed at the end of games to salvage victories. People with first hand knowledge have told me he's a great kid. But yeah you can't watch game after game of him missing 8-10 throws minimum that any decent HS QB should be able to make.

I do think help is on the way. Their hands were tied at the beginning of the season. I don't know what other choice they had than to keep sending Leidner out there and hope he gets in a groove. But the removal of Demry Croft's red shirt means change is in the air. They wouldn't have done that just to have him stand on the sidelines.

I think it means Leidner is on a VERY short leash for the rest of the season. If they would have had a 3 and out to start the second half instead of that long TD by Brooks, and if Purdue would have then scored a TD to take the lead, I bet Croft would have been in there. As it turned out, the rout was on and we didn't need Croft until garbage time.

And it's not like Croft would be a guaranteed fix either. He's a freshman. But he'd be a change just for the sake of change. To hope for a spark. Which may work or may not.

Talked a lot about Leidner this weekend with some others.
I'm assuming he was option 2, once they signed Philip Nelson?
That kind of puts things into perspective if so. I cant remember.
Wouldn't Nelson be our Senior Qb this year if all had gone to plan?

Yup, from what I recall Nelson and Leidner were in the same class and Nelson was by far the bigger recruit at that time. I remember seeing an article at that time talking about Leidner and he was looked on to hopefully develop enough to become a competent backup, not a starter.

Here we go .....

An undisclosed number of Minnesota football players were accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and retaliation during the 2014-15 academic year. A school email from July obtained by the Minneapolis Star Tribune sent to then-athletic director Norwood Teague raised concerns about five reported incidents. A University spokesperson said no police reports were filed.

I SO hate being right. While typing that I knew that Minnesota was going to be the perfect team to end Nebraska's woes.

Of all the gut punching ways to lose a game, that has to rank right up there.

Pretty much the same way we lost to Wisconsin in the Mason era.

Nice win, surprised how bad Purdue is after they played Mich St. tough last week. We looked much better but I think that is just due to Purdue's ineptitude that signs of our progress. Brooks is a heck of a RB. D was ball hawking today, but that is mostly on their QB play. We will likely be destroyed by most of our Big 10 opponents.

Nebraska should be a win.

Gophers are a mess. I don't see another win on the schedule. Maybe Illinois if we're lucky. But Illinois beat Kent State 52-3, so......

Thought the defense would be tough against a very mediocre Nebraska offense.
We won on penalties and turnovers. Plus Minnesota has dominated us in the running game of late and were terrible this weekend.

Embarassing year in many ways.
Wised up once Northwestern pounded us and we tried to make excuses.
Something's missing. Something huge. We are going nowhere, not improving at all.
Very disappointing.
