Jeff Jones, the Gophers’ most highly touted recruit of the past decade, is transferring to Iowa Western Community College after falling behind academically this semester, coach Tracy Claeys told the Star Tribune on Wednesday.

That's too bad. Hopefully he gets to carry the ball there, and go where his talents are used "correctly".

Claeys was on KFAN today. He elaborated on firing Limegrover and Zobroowski. It sounds like the 2 of them divided up the play calling where Limegrover called the running plays and Zobroowski called the passing plays. Claeys wants one person in charge of the offense. Essentially if Limegrover couldn't handle it, Claeys was going to get somebody who could. The scary thing is that Claeys suggested that Jerry Kill may not even have been aware of the arrangement between them.

Maybe some of this was why play calling took such a long time.

So idiotic....just give Leidner a 60-play list and let him call his own plays....probably would have worked better.

Pretty pleased with our new football coach at USD. We hired Bob Nielson, presently head coach at Western Illinois and former head coach at the U of M Duluth where he lead Duluth to two Div II titles.

I think he is a great hire. He was just named the Missouri Valley Football conference coach of the year.

Green is one of seven recruits who signed letters yesterday and will enroll at the U in January and participate in spring practice. Claeys also snagged a last minute JUCO d-back who flipped from his commitment to West Virginia.

Good to see a few posters in here.
Horrible year, but looking like we have a chance to end it with a bowl win.
Can we hold he lead for 4 minutes?

First Bowl win since 2004.
The 5-7 teams are making a good showing in these games.

I was watching on DVR so couldn't post.

Decent finish to a disaster of a year. Leidner actually looked pretty sharp. Wolitarsky dropped a couple, including a probably TD on bomb. Granted we were playing Central Mich. Hopefully the experience will help players and staff for next year and beyond.

Same for me (DVR). Weirdest fact in sports, to me at least, our last bowl win? Against Alabama

Alabama was bad that year. They were actually pretty bad for a long stretch.

I think the result of tonight's game solidifies that accepting the opportunity to play in this bowl game was a good decision. Not only the extra playing experience for all of them, but for the seniors this is a good way to end their careers. And this gives a little more insight into Claeys' ability as a head coach.

Way to go Gophers!

Agreed Lynn. It was really a no brainer. You always take the opportunity to continue playing and practicing.

On a related note Claeys hired his new OC and O-line coaches. Jay Johnson offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Louisiana-Lafayette is the new OC (local boy to boot) and Bart Miller formerly the Wisconsin OL coach under Bret Bielema is the new OL coach here.

Congrats on a trophy. Saw it in a picture, pretty big for a little bowl game.

Participant trophies for the kids will be in the mail

That was the best I've seen ML play in his career. He threw the best pass of life in the 1st quarter and Wolitarsky "williamson'd" it.

And yes, you have to accept that game. I just didn't realize you could even be bowl eligible with 5 wins.
