Rumor is it's going to hit the BB team and the football will be ok.

Henderson has until sometime in April to actually sign his tender. Jeff is right. There will supposedly be some minor stuff with football, but the basketball team is the one that is in trouble.

Even if he backs out from USC, he isn't coming here. He is a big time recruit and he will go to a big time program, which Minnesota hasn't been since the mid 60's.

I believe the hearings are set for February 19-21. It's amazing that the football program may escape any major penalties when you consider some of the issues with Bush and the rest.

Right Tim.  If he back out of USC he's Miami bound.  No doubt about it (and I don't blame him).

I thought he said Ohio State was his second choice.

Hmmm.  Hadn't heard that.  I read his 2 finalists were Miami and USC.  Even his dad said Miami right before the announcement.

Brewster adds a pretty impressive receivers coach.

I remember watching Steve Watson play.

Now if they can only pull their heads out and get the offense figured out.

Another red letter day for the Mighty Brewters:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/91571939.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUqCP:iUiacyKU7DYaGEP7vDEh7P:DiUs

University of Minnesota junior Gary Tinsley, 20, set to be a starter at linebacker this year for the Gophers, is facing the possibility of being charged with a number of offenses following an arrest in southeast Minneapolis early Sunday morning.
Two of those potential charges are felony counts of fleeing police, on a motor vehicle and on foot. Other possible charges included driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Maresh with two minors, and Theret with a DWI, and now Tinsley.
Not a stellar month, boys ...

One of the reasons that people give for following college sports rather than professional sports is the "purity" of the sport, where players play for the love of the game, not the money and all that rot. As more and more college players are exposed as thugs and criminals, the college atmosphere becomes completely tainted.

I'm embarrassed by all of the arrests and problems in both the football and basketball programs.

Just shut this embarrassing program down. For as much trouble as our athletic get into, you would think they would win more.

A college kid drinking isn't unusual so making it a big deal because they are athletes is terrible

When it keeps on happening over the years it's terrible. When he tries to flee police while drunk on a motorized vehicle it is terrible. When shit like this happens from one coach to the next including a drunken encounter that winds up with someone shot in the leg outside a night club, a passed out woman being raped while it gets recorded on a cell phone or an 18 year old freshman player gets shot to death in the early hours of the morning, it's God damned tragic.

It's a damm moped that goes about 30 mph. I'll bet you see way more of this with other college kids that you do with football players. If you weren't doing that at their age then I guess you were a wall flower

Seeing as I am coming up on 30 years of recovery on May 5, I am hardly the gold standard for what these kids are doing. And 30 MPH while intoxicated is fast enough. Not to mention fleeing police is technically a felony. The difference is that I was not representing my school. If you look at Tinsley in a vacuum, it's no big deal. Against the back drop of one thing after another, year after year, including, shootings, sexual assaults and murders, it's a problem.

A lot of Gophers get a look at this year, some as drafted players, some as FA signings and some just tryouts.

Besides wide receiver Eric Decker being drafted by the Broncos and linebacker Nate Triplett by the Vikings, six other Gophers signed free-agent contracts. This could be the biggest number in many years to get that opportunity. Tight end Nick Tow-Arnett went to Dallas, linebacker Simoni Lawrence to St. Louis, punter Blake Haudan to Carolina, cornerback Traye Simmons to San Diego, defensive tackle Garrett Brown to Kansas City and offensive lineman Matt Stommes to Denver. Jeff Tow-Arnett is going to get a tryout with Tampa Bay. And Gophers coach Tim Brewster reported that more than one team is talking about a contract with defensive back Marcus Sherels and linebacker Lee Campbell. Sherels is getting a tryout with the Vikings, but that deal doesn't include a contract yet.

The San Francisco 49ers signed safety Tramaine Brock, who played for the Gophers in 2008 but was academically ineligible for 2009. ... Alex Daniels, a Gophers fullback in 2006 who finished his college career as a defensive end with the Cincinnati Bearcats, signed with the Oakland Raiders.

I also heard that Barrett Moen ("Barre") has been invited to an open tryout with the Vikings this weekend. He was a Jefferson kid, and I've known him since kindergarten.

Exciting news out of Gopher football camp today ...
Coach Brewster announced already that Adam Weber will start at QB in the season opener Sept 2nd.
Not kidding.
Gray will back up and and Alipate is the third-stringer.
This is starting to enter "crazy Jim Wacker" territory.

Better news is all of the Gophers having an opportunity to make a NFL team

Sheriels, both Tow-Arnett's, Triplet and didn't Simone Lawrence sign?

I can't/will not hope for an injury...especially to a college kid....so.....will Weber have the decency to just step aside? Focus on studies? Do it for the good of the team, man!
