Funny, when you look at the stats many things jump out at you.

ELWAY

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/E/ElwaJo00.htm

Until Shanahan, Elway only had 2 seasons where he threw for 20 TDs in a year!  Also, despite his reputation for running so much he never ran for more than 300 yards.

YOUNG

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/Y/YounSt00.htm

His career is amazing because it really didn't take off until he was over 30 years old.  I guess he spent time in the USFL.  Tampa Bay gave up on him after just 19 starts - what dunces.  He may have the highest QB rating of all time.  He averaged over 100 while in SF!  However, is postseason QB rating dropped 16 points so that was the knock on him.

RANDALL

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CunnRa00.htm

Obviously the almost 5,000 career rushing yards and 35 rushing TDs jump out at you.  But what really jumps out is the three gaps - ACL on dirty hit from Bryce Paup, broken leg, and the aforementioned Gruden benching.  1990 and 1998 were two incredible seasons.

For comparison sake, look at McNabb and compare that to Elway:

What stands out to me is through his first 10 seasons he had 158 TDs vs 157 INTs and completed less than 55% of his passes.

Before the Shanahan years, Elway was not an efficient passer.  His TDs and completion % were both low.

It is the miracle comebacks that fueled his legend.  Some of those comebacks were a case of other teams running out of oxygen at Mile High though

Also, let's not forget that sometimes the reason a QB has to make a comeback is BECAUSE of his poor play earlier in the game.

Good stuff all around.  Agree on pretty much all the thoughts.

I don't think Elway was ever a "runner" but he was a GREAT scrambler to buy time.  Probably top 2 in that regard all-time along with Tarkenton.

Kiper always mentions this, but what I was referring to with the "perfect QB" stuff is that he apparently is the highest regarded QB entering a draft ever as far as tools.

Adds credence to the fact that 3 years and a lower functioning coach, should not be discounted as excuses for a 1AA quarterback not developing and playing like a top 10 quarterback yet.

Another reason I don't want McScabb near my team - Joe Buck makes excuses for his sorry ass when he does the fake pick-up-the-Giants sideline phone and gets a taunting penalty.

But then, I don't see eye-to-eye with Buck on anything. He's the biggest candy-ass I've ever seen on television. That preppy squirrel bait on Newhart could kick his ass.

I am a Star Trek Geek and I could kick Joe Buck's ass.

The man doesn't hold a candle to his father.  And Fox treats him like he is a sports announcing God.

I would give up 2 #1s for McNabb.

I would take him over any sorry ass QB Brad Childress has brought in here AND is likely to bring in here!

I don't buy into getting any player because our players suck. We should get players because they're a good fit. You're right about one thing, McNabb fits this silly notion we call our offense. If I never see that shit 4 yard pass again it will not be soon enough.

By the way, the Eagles offense sucks too. BORING! I hope they get their asses handed to them unless that means McKnob would come to Minny. In that case I want the Eagles to win 100-0.

Of course in order for their shitty offense to score 100 points, they'd have to play 10 games. I'm pretty sure it's still one game this year.

Giants to Consider Bringing Plaxico Burress Back
Sun Jan 11, 2009

ESPN reports the New York Giants tried to play through the WR Plaxico Burress fiasco. After getting knocked out of the playoffs, they might be ready to bring him back. "If everything goes all right, yeah," Giants GM Jerry Reese said on Sunday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Burress caught the Super Bowl-winning touchdown for the Giants last season but was suspended in November after accidentally shooting himself at a nightclub. The wide receiver faces two felony gun charges and could face more charges. Giants QB Eli Manning suffered without one of his top targets. He completed 15 of 29 passes for 169 yards and two interceptions, without a touchdown, in New York's 23-11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. "Your margin of error is way less when you don't have a guy with that kind of presence out there," Reese said of Burress, according to the newspaper, "so you have to capitalize on every opportunity you have and we were not able to make enough plays."

Oh, giving him another "shot?"

They have to bring him back.

He's the only thing that makes Eli look like a passable QB.

I got the impression from some on this board that Eli was the best QB in the league after his Superbowl win last season, apparently he's human after all and football is still the ultimate team game.  Eli can't win it all by himself!

He played decent for 3-4 games; that's all.

Like I told you last week, that Davenport offense will be hoisting the Lombardi.

The Vikings should kill to get McNabb on their team but it is too late now.

We should wish we had an offense that good.

It's not their offense winning games IMO.  It's Jim Johnson's defense.

Tony did a lot of great things for the game, and the NFL will miss him.

Congrats on a great career in football, Tony, and enjoy retirement time with the family. I'm sure you'll do much more important things than football in your years ahead.

Riggghhht.

That wasn't McNabb leading his team from behind 3 times?

It was their offense that completely controlled the ball in the 3rd quarter and broke the game open

12:33304:48PHI 251258Field Goal

04:20304:24PHI 371063Touchdown

A 58 yard drive for a FG (into the wind) and a 63 yard drive for a TD.

That is what good offenses do - they deliver in the clutch.

A good offense is not about 400 yard games!

You and I have a LOT different idea of what a great offense is, JC.

If you think Philly's offense is anything but lame and boring, we're on totally different pages there.

That's okay, though. I'm willing to wait for Childress to implode and take the Eagles suckshit offense with him when he gets his pink slip eventually. That dink and dunk garbage is the worst football I've ever seen from the Vikings offense.
