Pretty funny stuff today with Skip Bayless going head-to-head with Ochocinco.
I'll give them both credit, neither backed down.
Found it pretty entertaining.

I find the constant rips on Russell amazing and probably racist based.

30 (30) Raiders 5-11-0 Will QB JaMarcus Russell start to quiet critics or give us more fodder? (Kuharsky)

Last year, his first year starting, he had a very good TD/INT ration while playing one of the worst teams in the NFL - one with no talent at WR.  How come he isn't given years of excuses like David Carr was or Alex Smith?

Black QBs get one bad year and then they are toast.

You mean, like Tarvaris Jackson?

Heritage Hall football coach Andy Bogert figured he was in good shape when he learned one of Barry Sanders' kids was going to join his program.

Barry Sanders' kid ran for 742 yards and 12 TDs as a freshman. Bogert, however, had to see for himself, so he checked in on Sanders when he was playing in a junior high game.

First carry: 80 yards.

Second carry: 60 yards.

Third carry: 65 yards.

"We knew we had something special," Bogert said.

He also knew he had a problem.

Amazing with all the hype around Dallas, and people picking them to go to the Super Bowl for years, and all the players, and Jason Garett and blah, blah, blah, they haven't won a Playoff game in 13 YEARS.

Dandy game to start the season tonight.
2 tough teams, 2 of the best coaches in the game.
Really respect both coaches.
I'm ready for some football.

These pre-game bands are horrible.  I don't know who is more painful to listen to - the Black Eyed Peas without their studio tricks or off key Tim McGraw!

Wow

What an INT by Polamalu!  Wow

Both offenses look like they should have taken the preseason seriously!

Here is where he screwed up with marshall

Once you trade Cutler and marshall is disgruntled then TRADE HIM.

OR

He could have met with Cutler and straightened things out and built a good team

He screwed up by getting all starry eyed about getting MATT CASSEL.  MATT FREAKIN CASSEL.  HELLO?

Cutler was understandibly dissed...but then greatly overreacted...refused to take calls from the team owner, and wouldn't reconcile...

Marshall's problems began before the Cutler fiasco.  He was wanting to be paid like a top 5 WR (He's not quite THAT talented) and he has a history of being an immature crybaby.  The Cutler situation only made the situation worse.  But if Marshall is as good as he claims or believes himself to be...it shouldn't matter which QB is throwing him the ball...he should dominate.  Cutler's departure isn't that big of a factor here.

And that's his GOOD side.

b. Minnesota, with the best defense in the NFC, going against one of the worst offenses in football, giving the Browns a short field on a game-opening onside kick in Cleveland. Just dumb. If Cleveland starts at its 25-yard line 10 times against Minnesota, it might score once. Maybe twice. If it starts at midfield, it has to go 20 yards to get a field goal. The Browns went 31 yards and opened with a field goal. Why the onside kick? Why?
c. Tashard Choice taking a Wildcat snap for Dallas. My Wildcatter there would be Felix Jones.
d. Jay Cutler surrendering not only four interceptions but also 129 interception return yards ... to zero and zero for Green Bay. You think that wasn't a huge factor in the Sunday-nighter?
e. Arizona's protection.
f. Detroit's readiness.
g. The desperate straits Jake Delhomme has left Carolina in. By choosing to show faith in Delhomme and not going out and getting a proven backup in the offseason, John Fox cast his lot with a beloved but shaky player. No team can win with a turnover machine at quarterback.
h. Miami's margin for error. It's paper-thin. Of all the pretty good teams in football, Miami's the one that can least afford to make two mistakes on offense and think it still can win.
i. Brad Childress cutting Bobby Wade after asking him to take a pay cut., which Wade did a week before getting whacked for Greg Lewis. If you think that loses you points with your veteran players, you're right.

3. One more reason Pittsburgh's in trouble: these Steelers are a mediocre running team on their best day. I don't think they've reached a panic situation quite yet because the Titans don't allow anyone to run the football on them. But there are serious problems.
Willie Parker: I haven't seen much from him. Rashard Mendenhall: I haven't really seen him, period. One thing I have seen is Mewelde Moore making plays. And I think the little guy's going to get more of those opportunities as the Steelers continue to grow into what I think will be more of a passing team in 2009.
The running back I like least on that team is Frank Summers, the rookie fullback. He doesn't seem to understand what's going on. He's missing plenty of blocks, and that's affecting everything. That definitely has to be addressed off the field this week.
The bigger problem, though, is the offensive line. They have no continuity. On top of not being able to protect Ben Roethlisberger, they're letting running backs get hit before they reach the line of scrimmage. There's not a lot any back can do in that situation.

If you watched any of the Raiders game tonight, you can't possibly still believe this!!?! You could put a tractor tire ten yards away from Russell and ask him to throw it through the middle and he'd sail it fifteen feet over!
As you like to say, you have to look beyond the stats. The guy is one of the most inaccurate passers I've ever seen and that's why they give him a hard time out here.

He also looks out of shape. How many pounds has he gained since he turned pro?

Jeff Garcia back with the Eagles, my first thought was Hank Baskett is leaving. I figured Hank would be gone week 3 when the made a move on Vick, but now that they are forced to add a 4th qb, he goes this week.

I know it is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but would Baskett be an upgrade over Greg Lewis? Or is he too much like Sydney Rice, with less talent?

I'd rather have him than Lewis. At least with Baskett, if Rice gets hurt again, we'd still have another WR with size.

Baskett is like Rice but has more speed but hands not as good. He had good hands before Kendra but his game seemed to slip in direct proportion to his relationship.

I agree. Yes he made a mistake, but he was trying to help his team win. Players make poor decisions all the time

The mistake started with the coach not telling him no matter what to take a knee.  In that situation, he should have knelt down.  Not given them the opportunity to strip the ball and take a shot at the win.  He takes a knee, they have the ball at the 20 and can run three plays to run the clock down and punt at worst.  Instead the Pats got the ball in striking distance...and struck.

Agent Jim Ivler confirmed to your Eagletarian this morning that WR Hank Baskett "is on his way to Indy to sign with the Colts."

He probably will outproduce Rice!  LMAO
