That's not the truth and it doesn't hurt.

Young has not been a good passer in his career. He's managed some games to wins, he's run some games to wins. He's been a "1 read and take off" guy since college. How often does a running QB that is a poor passer have regular season success translate to post season success in the PRO game?

Yesterday he flat out passed his way to a win. If he keeps doing that, a lot of people will admit they were wrong about him.

Mentioning Young's skin color seems pretty racist to me. What does that have to do with anything?

Just to clarify, you're admitting truth in the claim you set a higher bar for white QB's?

23-11 as a starter

Twice he has taken over winless teams during the season and put them in playoff contention

As usual, a higher bar is set for the Black QB.

23 wins and we still don't know if he is a legit starter

The color of his skin doesn't enter into it.  I set the bar high for all QBs.  This isn't about starting a Black QB over a White QB...and for the record, it is YOU that is bringing up the race...nobody else even alluded to it.

To rehash here are some importants stats:
Before this year he also:
- had a career QB rating in the 60's;
- threw 10 more INT's than TD's;
- was averaging around 150 ypg passing;
- went missing and his coach called the police to find him because his friends & family all said he was suicidal as he left with a gun;
- refused to go back into a game & meet with the rest of the offense after throwing an INT;
- was criticized by teammates because he was not a student of the game and didn't put in the work in the film room.

None of that indicates a good QB...whether he was Black, White, Purple, Polkadotted, Mauve, Green, or Brett Favre...those things are awful and a BIG reason that a head coach would delay/resist putting him in as a starter.

Quit ignoring facts JC.  This race baiting shit is beneath you.

Coming into this year, many - even JC - pretty much wrote off VY.  Given much of the data around him, I would say that was pretty fair.

Now he has come along and played pretty well and gotten a few wins - one very impressive one last week.  For me, I'm not going to crown his ass and say he has resurrected his career after 5 games - 5 games after pretty much all had said he was done.

Just like I never bought into Derek Anderson, Scott Mitchell, Quinn, Bouman, Cutler (the list goes on for miles), I'm not ready to annoint this dude an NFL stud QB.

I have never been quick to jump any any QB's bandwagon after they won a few games.  I'm not going to start now.  And for the record, anyone insinuating race has something to do with it hasn't paid attention to me never jumping on the bandwagon of countless white QB who have played decent for a small stretch.

I don't care about the past crap and what he has or hasn't done . But the guy knows how to win football games . He proved it in college and he is proving it in the NFL . If we could weasel him cheap I would love to sit him behind Favre for one year and then let him take over . In fact I threw that out last year when he was having his troubles , we could have gotten him for a song and a bag of footballs . And I was basically shouted down and laughed off !

Vince Young already has 9 "comeback wins" in his short career.

They should have benched Collins a month earlier and I said it right here on these threads.

23-11
9 comeback wins

Legit NFL starter?

Collins should have been benched,  Few would argue that he shouldn't have been.  The point though is that Vince Young was a train wreck as a QB in the NFL before that.  They were winning DESPITE him being in there.  The stats speak for themselves and if OUR QB were playing that badly, you would be calling for his head.

Since returning, he's been great.  It's hindsight to say that everyone should have seen this level of play.  NOBODY could have honestly predicted this without doubting their own prediction and/or laughing at themselves for making it.

His stats prior to being benched were atrocious, you can't ignore them.  They are fact.

Wins are a TEAM record...not just a QB record.  QB stats tell a much clearer story.  Pity that you can't stop ignoring facts that are smacking you repeatedly in the face.  It's a shame that we have to keep hitting you with these facts but you stubbornly stick to the one stat that isn't solely QB dependent.

About the NFL and head injuries and concussions.  I think the NFL is off to a good start with the independent neurologists rule.  But I think Roger Goodel needs to stop complaining about the players not using the latest technology and make it mandatory for their own protection.  In addition, they need to instruct players that helmets should never be loose enough that someone could hit you hard enough to knock your helmet off.  I am seeing it more and more frequently, nearly every game I watch, there is one or more times a player's hit and his helmet goes bouncing away.

If I were a head coach, or General Manager, President or Owner, I would inform the players that there would be ramifications if their helmet is knocked off in a game.  They should never be so loose that that could happen.

What a disastrous day for the Falcons yesterday

The Eagles, without Jackson and Westbrook, go into the dome and beat the snot out of them without Ryan.  On top of that, the loss pushes towards missing the playoffs.  Still worst of all, Michael BOW WOW Vick is dancing in their end zone with 2 TDs!

I bet the caviar didn't go down well last night for Arthur Blank!

MY PRESEASON AFC PICK

quote:

The Chargers want to show they're not your father's Bolts.

Rather than look at the narrow 30-23 victory in Cleveland with negativity, I look at it as an example of San Diego growing up. The Chargers built a 27-7 lead on a 27-degree wind-chill day, and even though San Diego likely won't face a frigid game in the playoffs, it's good to know the players can handle it if it comes. More likely, San Diego will find a road to the Super Bowl runs through Indianapolis. The Chargers would never say that makes them happy, but they don't have to. The stats say it.
"I don't think that's a team Indianapolis wants to play,'' says Tony Dungy, who might know a thing or two about what Indianapolis wants.
With the most recent game first, the past five San Diego-Indy meetings did not go well for the Colts. How they've gone:

2008 playoff, at San Diego: Chargers 23-17 (OT).
2008 regular season, at San Diego: Colts 23-20.
2007 playoffs, at Indianapolis: Chargers 28-24.
2007 regular season, at San Diego: Chargers 23-21
2005 regular season, at Indianapolis: Chargers 26-17

So let's see. The Chargers in 2005 beat the 13-0 Colts in Indy. The Chargers knocked the 13-3 Colts out of the playoffs in 2007 in Indy. The Chargers knocked the 12-4 Colts out of the playoffs in 2008 in San Diego.

I sense a trend.

The Chargers lead the league in matchup problems for defense. On Sunday in Cleveland, San Diego started two 6-foot-5 receivers, Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd, and two tight ends, 6-4 Antonio Gates and 6-2, 295-pound Brandon Manumaleuna. They subbed two more 6-5 wideouts, Legedu Naanee and Kassim Osgood. Smurfy Darren Sproles caught four balls. Gates had an eight-catch, 167-yard day. "Football is a game of matchups,'' Gates said from Cleveland. "Right now, our skill-position guys can match up well with defenses.''

Consider how the Chargers are playing in their seven-game win streak. They are scoring more than one unbeaten team, Indianapolis, in the past seven games, averaging 31 points during the win streak, and defending better than New Orleans, averaging 15 points allowed in their win streak.
"Our maturity level is higher,'' Gates said from Cleveland. "We realize it's all about now. Forget what happened last week, forget what we've got next week. It's now that counts. We've also realized all that stuff about talent doesn't win games for you. Having talent doesn't mean you'll win in the playoffs, and going 14-2 doesn't mean you'll win. We just want to get to the postseason and be playing well when we get there.''

Nate Washington's drop of a touchdown bomb from Vince Young. I can guarantee you that's the biggest nightmare drop of his career.

For all the things that BRady does well, he sucks at throwing the fade.  That one the weakly attempted to Moss was brutal and the INT cost them the game

Loved Tom Brady telling Carolina to STFU when talking about Randy Moss yesterday.
Thats what a team leader does.
Didn't pile on, didn't make excuses, just told them to stfu.

Nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to the stupidity of today's athletes. I'm actually more amazed by a well-spoken, intelligent athlete because it's so rare.
