Word is that Larry Johnson was signed by Cincy. I hope that works out for them cause I really like Marvin Lewis.

Let the conspiracy theories begin!! I was out for drinks with several attorneys tonight and several of them have worked/still work for NFL franchises. After several cocktails they all mentioned how insincere the apology was for flipping the bird. When I inquired further, they all were in agreement that this incident was absolutely staged. They all agreed that Goodell set this up to earn some points with the players/players association for the upcoming negotiatoins.

So bud Adams was willing to make himself look like a demented old fool to help Goodell out with his negotiations? Must be a good friend.

I'm skeptical.

I'm skeptical.

None of these guys have ever worked for Adams, so there's no inside knowledge here, just theories. That said, they all felt that it would be well worth it to Adams to take a brief PR hit in an effort to show that Goodell's not so deep in the owners' pockets which will be of great benefit in his dealing with the players association. Adams' blemish will last a day or two but a players' settlement will profit him for years!

ESPN reports Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating its policy against using performance-enhancing substances. Bowe's suspension will begin immediately, the team said Tuesday, adding it would not comment further.

I think once Winfield was out, Wilf (or Childress),whomever the GM, should have seen the need to sign somone like McAlister for depth, safety or nickelback.

Now, I think the Saints chances of winning it all went up just a little bit more. At least it helps my fantasy defense, but makes it harder to decide whether to start Vikes' or Saints' defense.

Steelers Fan Claims he was Poisoned by Bears Fan

ThePittsburghChannel.com reports a Steelers fan, Zack Heddinger, left blind and living with brain damage, says the effects were the result of being poisoned at a Chicago bar following a game in September. "I haven't been able to see. I've basically been blind for two months," said Heddinger. Heddinger said that he and a few friends went to a bar following the Steelers' 17-14 loss to the Bears at Soldier Field on Sept. 20. Heddinger said he and his friends were trash talking with Bears fans inside Kitty O'Shea's, but can't remember what else happened. "Basically, I guess, my buddies had gotten into an altercation and they offered a drink as a peacemaker from what I understand," said Heddinger. Not long after taking the drink, Heddinger passed out and was rushed to a nearby hospital, his heart stopping four times. At first, doctors thought he had too much to drink, but realized there was more to it. "They thought it was antifreeze or something like that …because it was so strong," said Heddinger. Heddinger's family rushed to Chicago to be with him after doctors told them he wasn't going to make. "I literally watched him say, within a matter of hours, 'I'm getting really scared. I can't see anything,'" said sister Lisa. Doctors suspect his drink may have been spiked with toxic grain alcohol. "I don't think they tried to kill me. I think they tried to hurt me, but the killing came pretty close," said Heddinger. A spokesperson for Kitty O'Shea's said on Tuesday that the bar is cooperating fully with an ongoing police investigation. "We cannot confirm whether we are looking at surveillance video," the Chicago Police Department told Wright by phone. "The Area 3 detective division is looking into the matter." Heddinger celebrated his 46th birthday on Monday and is undergoing oxygen treatments in hopes of regaining some of his vision. He hopes to be able to return to his job as a district manager for a jewelry company.

I guess there are worse things than being called a lover or a hater on a message board.

How about the Packer fan who stabbed someone outside of a Mpls. bar after the Packers lost to the Vikings here? People are so weird.

I'll be the first to admit that I take the Vikings seriously...but come on...it's a game. Smack talking is going to be involved and if you're going to dish it out...be prepared to take it. Stabbing a fan of another team after team loses. Poisoning someone after the smack talk gets out of hand. Beating your wife because the Packers lost. Getting into a fist fight at the local bar when your team loses and you can't take the smacktalk...

Really, that's just going too far. Sometimes you wish cooler heads would prevail.

That's nothing compared to international futebol violence. Read up on the defender that put in an own goal for Venezuela against the US when the World Cup was here. I would say ask him what happened if you ever meet him but the Venezuela fans pumped him full of lead to the tune of something like 27 shots. He was in his car when they got him.

Ai Ai Jake. As an Arsenal man that was hard to see. I feel so bad for the Irish. I was a huge Henry supporter for years. He carried the invincible's on his back not that long ago. Last night.....well, that was just a disgrace to the game I love.

It also cheated an entire nation of people out of the greatest party on the planet. Not to mention the millions the IFA lose. Terrible deal all around and FIFA are losing credibility by not owning up to it. A simple hand ball is bad enough. This was:

2 Frogs offside at the start of the free kick

Henry using his hand to stop the ball from going out of bonds (actually cupping the ball

)

Getting another hand in to control it before slotting it to Gallas. Who, BTW, looked disgusted himself. And if you know anything about Gallas that's like saying the devil would be disgusted by sex.

Agreed. There were several misses on that play. I do appreciate the slo-mo replays which show that response by Gallas. In that split second you could almost see him stopping for a whistle and thinking "what are you doing?". It is sad that this keeps a team like Ireland out of the Cup.

I was on a train from NYC a couple of weeks ago when the Devils played the Rangers in MSG. There was about 20 drunk guys on each side piling on to the train. Fisticuffs began in less than 2 minutes.

I was outta there!

I thought that was a Seattle fan who was stabbed by a Packer fan outside a MPLS bar. How I remember was the Packer fan was all agitated and he didn't realize the Seattle fan didn't care about the Vikes/Packers game.

Cromartie under investigation for assault with a deadly weapon

The Chargers had every right to celebrate their back-from-the-brink blowout of the Broncos, a 32-3 win that vaulted San Diego into first place.

But one of the players on the team might have celebrated a bit too zealously.

According to TMZ.com, cornerback Antonio Cromartie (whose "CrimeTime31" handle on Twitter could be more appropriate than ever imagined) is under investigation for assault with a deadly weapon.

Apparently, a champagne-spraying incident culminated in a flying bottle of bubbly that hit someone in the head.

Per the report, at least one eyewitness fingered Cromartie as the bottle thrower. Conflicting stories, however, have emerged from other witnesses.

Agent Gary Wichard, in denying Cromartie's involvement, initially seemed to put the blame on one or more of Cromartie's teammates. "This is absolutely not a story," Wichard said. "Antonio didn't throw the bottle. There were actually three other players involved. Antonio is at a complex working out. Again, this is not a story."

Later, Wichard said that Cromartie "was there with 2 other players . . . no one was involved in the fight."

Still, if authorities can make the allegations against Cromartie stick, he could eventually be "at a complex working out." And the complex would otherwise be known as "the yard."

The New Orleans Saints are collecting veteran cornerbacks.

Last week the Saints signed cornerback Chris McAlister, and today Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Saints are planning to sign cornerback Mike McKenzie.

McKenzie was a Saint from 2004 to 2008. He played seven games for the Saints last season, starting six, before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

The 10-0 Saints have had major injury problems in their secondary. They're going to need that secondary to be ready to play next Monday night, when they take on the New England Patriots in the toughest game left on their 2009 schedule.
