I think the Saints realize that they are a little substandard in the secondary.

Saints plan to sign McKenzie

The New Orleans Saints are collecting veteran cornerbacks.

Last week the Saints signed cornerback Chris McAlister, and today Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Saints are planning to sign cornerback Mike McKenzie.

McKenzie was a Saint from 2004 to 2008. He played seven games for the Saints last season, starting six, before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

The 10-0 Saints have had major injury problems in their secondary. They're going to need that secondary to be ready to play next Monday night, when they take on the New England Patriots in the toughest game left on their 2009 schedule.

NE is the toughest team remaining on their schedule, but @ATL week 14 may be just as tough a game for them IMO.

If the Vikes win out and NO loses but one game...then I would prefer they lose to Atl or another NFC opponent.  As that would be the first tiebreaker.

NO way do I expect them to undefeated

The task for them is to somehow hold on to HFA while resting key players

How about the Packer fan who stabbed someone outside of a Mpls. bar after the Packers lost to the Vikings here? People are so weird.

Wasn't it a cop from Wisconsin?

That's nothing compared to international futebol violence.  Read up on the defender that put in an own goal for Venezuela against the US when the World Cup was here.  I would say ask him what happened if you ever meet him but the Venezuela fans pumped him full of lead to the tune of something like 27 shots.  He was in his car when they got him.

Pretty sure that was a Colombian deal.

Actually I heard the Packer fan was a woman, they just thought she was a man, because she had a trucker wallet with the chain.

Jake DelHomme had a 12.7 QB rating yesterday

It is amazing how QBs as bad as he and Kerri Collins manage to keep their jobs while losing so many games badly

And how stupid does Jeff Fisher look right now?  The owner had to order him to play Vince Young on threat of being fired!

SHUT DOWN CB

You can add another notch to Darrelle Revis's belt. The Jets' shutdown cornerback -- and we don't toss that label around lightly -- not only limited Carolina receiver Steve Smith to one catch for 5 yards, he picked off Delhomme twice, returning the first one 67 yards for a touchdown.

Though I agree with you...their options weren't that good.

Tennessee...Vince Young was a basket case, looked bad even though they were winning (IOW they were winning in spite of VYoung at the time they benched him and Collins played very well last year).  So the options weren't good in the coach's eyes...he didn't trust Young.  Hindsight is 20/20 and the decision to play Young has certainly worked out (and to the coach's credit, they designed a gameplan that worked to his strengths).

Carolina...just who is the backup there?  Do you really think he'd be any better...Personally, whoever it is, I would give him a shot, it can't be much worse than this.

It is not hindsight.  By 0-4, most Titans fans were calling for the switch.  Even more telling, if you follow the Titans, was how badly Collins finished LAST year.

To non-Titans fans, they think Collins went south this year.

Wrong

Collins finished 2008 losing 3 of 4 games!

His last 6 games in 2008 he threw 2 TDs to 4 INTs plus a fumble while the Titans season fell apart.

At 0-3 (which made him 1-6 in his last 7 starts) he should have been benched.  Collins was allowed to lose 9 of 10 starts before being benched!

The hindsight isn't in benching Collins...That move clearly needed to be made...I don't disagree...the hindsight is in starting Young, who despite the Titans winning with him in there more often than not, looked awful and was an emotional midget when things didn't go his way.  Going with Young looks brilliant now.  Staying with Collins for too long was dumb, but there was a reason they didn't want to go with Young...because he wasn't any good before.  He's played great, but it isn't a decision that, at the time it was made, that would have been considered a no brainer.  Replace a guy that is clearly not getting it done with a guy that struggled mightily the last time he played.  Hindsight makes the move look brilliant...and some credit should go to the same coaching staff that was forced to play Young to putting in a gameplan that suited his talents.  So at the the same time you want to bash them...they deserve some Kudos too.

There is no hindsight in starting Young either.  All reports for him ALL YEAR including preseason were good.

"there was a reason they didn't want to go with Young...because he wasn't any good before."

100% pure bull

Before this year he was 18-11 as a starter for this team.  You can't make stuff up to suit your argument.

I remember there was some outrage on the board when stories started to pop up that we were considering him with the #7 pick, as he seemed to be one of those "come out of nowhere, late riser" types.

Obviously we did pretty good picking the guy we did instead.

That's right, that was the AD year! Good recall David. I remember thinking that was too high for him, but now it is pretty obvious that he was top 5 talent.

Bullshit.

Young was benched for a reason...they were winning DESPITE having him as a QB, not BECAUSE he was QB.  YOU CAN'T MAKE STUFF UP TO SUIT YOUR ARGUMENT.  They thought, and for a good long while they were right (they started out 11-0 last year), that they'd have a better chance of winning with Kerry Collins at QB.  Young was inconsistant, and did very little to actually help them win games.  When benched he got very depressed to the point that people close to him thought he was suicidal.

NO expert would have picked Young to start over Collins to start this season.

He's played great lately, but Young was not that good before.  If he was then EXPLAIN WHY HE WAS BENCHED.

Your argument is severly lacking.

Sure Young was 18-11 as a starter before this year. Before this year he also:
- had a career QB rating in the 60's;
- threw 10 more INT's than TD's;
- was averaging around 150 ypg passing;
- went missing and his coach called the police to find him because his friends & family all said he was suicidal as he left with a gun;
- refused to go back into a game & meet with the rest of the offense after throwing an INT;
- was criticized by teammates because he was not a student of the game and didn't put in the work in the film room.

For anyone to claim it was a no brainer to go to an allegedly suicidal QB with below average stats in order to save the season is nonsense. True, Collins was stinking up the joint but not one person can claim they saw him increasing his QB rtg by over 20 and cutting his INT% by over 1/2.

Don't worry, this will flip at least a few more times.

VY playing good enough to rally for 5 wins in a row but nothing is determined yet.

4 passing TD's in 5 games and suddenly all is forgotten - he's great!

For one week at least VY is a top 2 QB in the NFL (variance?).  It will be interesting to see what happens next week @ Indy.

VY's TEAM has won 5 games now.  I'm not sure that sample size is enough to say he is now a legit NFL caliber QB.  Time will tell.

I am impressed with the way he has played - no doubt.  Will this continue, or will we see a reversion to the mean vis-a-vis his performance?

23-11 as a starter

Twice he has taken over winless teams during the season and put them in playoff contention

As usual, a higher bar is set for the Black QB.

23 wins and we still don't know if he is a legit starter

VY's career stats aren't even as good as TJack's. Let's not go overboard with one good game - even TJack threw 4TDs against a Super Bowl team last year.

It's not about white/black. A strong case can be made that TJack has been the better QB so far.

JC, your race bait gets so old and it really is beneath you and any actual rational discussion. Plenty of "winners" have been written off by you and many others. It has nothing to do with skin color. How about your boy Romo, who you like to rip to shreds and belittle anything he accomplishes? Going into this year, he had a 27-12 record yet all you could do is talk about how much of an overrated bum he is. How about Pennington? While he was winning games all you could do is talk about how he couldn't throw the deep out and thus will never be a legit starter. How about Cassell who was 10-5 in his first playing stint and you were adamant that the Vikes should stay far away from him? Do you set a higher bar for White QB's?!

The bottom line is that there are a number of QB's who have gone out and won games yet still haven't gotten respect for one reason or another (Dilfer, Grossman, Orton,...). I agree with the criticism of some of these as well as some of the ones you've criticized above. The fact is that I came to this conclusion by watching them play not by looking at their profile picture on NFL.com! To throw out the race claim just diminishes your credibility here!
