Patriots Chance at Perfection Coming to both NBC & CBS --
Wed Dec 26, 2007

  • AP reports the New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available to every television viewer in the country after months of wrangling. Their game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network. Fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs receive the channel. The league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from lawmakers in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

  • I can understand them letting CBS cover it since they would have the game since an AFC team going into a NFC town. But why NBC? Having 3 Networks don't make sense. Might as well let FOX cover it also.

CBS gets it because it's the AFC, NBC gets it because they get non-monday night prime time games. It's in their TV contract.

Does the NFL Network recieve a cut of advertising revenue or compensation to carry the game?

Will each network have their own play-by-play announcers or will there be only the scheduled game announcers shared by the networks?

It will be the NFL announcers...
That is what simulcast means...they will broadcast a feed to the other networks that they will pick up...  Kind of like when Vikings play on Monday Nights and the game is simulcast on KSTP...we get the ESPN announcers still.

The only difference will be the commercials.  Each network/station will get their $$$ based on selling their own commercial time slots....I believe.

He hasn't officially gotten away with it yet.  The justice system still has a job to do, and let's hope this time they get it right.  Leonard Little has always been the example of a high priced athlete who has literally gotten away with murder and continues to play his sport.

I don't think that I can remember a final week of the season with so many meaningless games.  There can't be more than 5 or 6 games with playoff implications

I think Washington will bow out in the first round.  I watch Collins pass the ball and his balls take so long to get there I am shocked he doesn't throw more picks.

    That will change next week

    This is just absurd:

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears' star Devin Hester broke his own NFL record Sunday when he returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints, his sixth kick return touchdown of the season.

Hester has two kickoff returns and four punt returns for touchdowns this season. He returned five kicks for scores last season as a rookie.

Hester's 11 combined career return touchdowns are two shy of the NFL record held by Brian Mitchell. Hester is third on the all-time list, trailing Eric Metcalf and Dante Hall, who each have 12.

And Brian Mitchell played in 223 games.

    This shouldn't be possible:

Mitchell: 15 years, 233 games. 607 Kick Returns, 463 Punt Returns. 15 TD

Hester: 2 years, 32 games. 63 Kick Returns, 89 Punt Returns. 13 TD

I think Washington gets to the NFFCG vs the Pack......Dallas doesn't impress me and the Skins are rollin on both sides of the ball.

Any HC or Punter/Kicker who allows that guy to get to the ball shouldn't just be fired, they should be flogged!

I don't.  I agree that I think Dallas could be one and done - certainly losing in the NFC CG unless Owens comes back near 100%.

Todd Collins threw some of the luckiest passes I have seen in recent weeks.  His deep outs are floaters that will be intercepted by better secondaries.  If Wash plays GB they will get smoked.  Woodson and Harris will both get picks.

SAT, JAN 5 TIME (ET) TV RESOURCES LOCATION
    Washington at Seattle - SEA
    Jacksonville at Pittsburgh - JAX

SUN, JAN 6 TIME (ET) TV RESOURCES LOCATION
NY Giants at Tampa Bay - NYG
Tennessee at San Diego - SD

    That would then lead to

    NYG@DAL - DAL
    SEA@GB - GB
    SD@IND - IND
JAX@NE - NE (I think Jax could have upset them in the NFC CG, but not a rested Pats)

    I don't.  Don't look at yesterday's game.   Dallas wasn't trying very hard.

Look at the game earlier this season when TO has something like 4 TDs.  That is the type of game I see happening if Dallas gets Washington.

Dallas' success depends on Owens health.

He is their MVP by far

Without TO, Dallas is an average team where they have 1 decent WR and a superstar TE with an average running game.  Their defense isn't anything special.  It all comes down to his health for them.  If he cannot play, they are toast.

    Bingo

Owens opens things up for Witten also just like Moss opens things up for Welker and others.  If Owens is hurt Dallas will lose their first game.

I still can't believe SD got Chambers for a song.

I know I'm biased, but I don't think you can say it's one or the other re: Witten and T.O.  I think they both help each other out tremendously.  Witten would get his yards regardless because Romo trusts him like no other and he is his security blanket.

And I think the key for Dallas is really Romo's health, even more than T.O.'s.  If his thumb is okay in 2 weeks, they will roll.

I'm sticking with my prediction back in May or June.  NE over the Cowboys in the SuperBowl.  I just don't see anyone else stopping either team.

I'm going to go out on limb and say it's Indy vs Wash in the Bowl.  I know everyone here says Collins stinks.  I don't really think so.   I said before the Vikes game that he makes that offense much more dangerous then Campbell.
