I mentioned weeks ago that a high profile exec within the Ravens was asked about BB and his statement of "I'll be back next year".  The exec's response..."no comment".

Jeff - you also mentioned Collins would be a better fit than Jason Campbell....good call!

BTW - your Brad/Jesus post, may be the best post I've ever read!

Martz and son apparently canned:

The Detroit Lions have fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz and promoted offensive line coach Jim Colleto and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown to run the offense in his place, a source in the organization told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Colleto will be named offensive coordinator and remain as the offensive line coach, while Brown is being promoted to assistant head coach and passing game coordinator, and will also serve as running backs coach.

In other changes, the Lions promoted Shawn Jefferson from offensive assistant to wide receivers coach. and fired Martz's son, Tim Martz, as an offensive assistant.

Sounds like the way Red would operate the team, put an extra hat on a coach instead of hiring an extra coach so they can save money. Heck who cares anyway, the Lion fans are used to inferior teams

I'm amazed at the titles teams give their coaches so that they cannot leave to another NFL team unless it's a promotion.

But 2 guys running the offense?  This is going to be fun to watch unfold.  Given the OL coach of the worst OL in the league is now in charge overall of the offense, we may actually see Detroit score negative points in a game.

It's always a good time not to be a Lions fan!

As someone else previously stated, let's all keep quiet about Millen. May he have a long career in Detroit. Amongst the many of life's mysteries, Millen's longetivity as a GM is as befuddling as any.

CALLAHAN

I wonder if he is even a OC at this stage.  Don't you think Gruden ran all of the Oakland's offense?  - especially since Callahan couldn't even change the plays in an entire year and ran Gruden's system in the Super Bowl against Gru-dog

Belichick beat out McCarthy for COY and rightly so.  I was very happy that MM got 15 of the 50 votes.  Solid showing.

I hate to see Belichick win, but when you go 16-0 there's not much discussion.

I still think the Del Rio should have been 2nd, but I guess all the smart voters voted for BB anyway.

No way does Del Rio deserve it over McCarthy.

1. They didn't win their division
2. They were 1-3 against the Titans and Colts
3. They finished 11-5 vesus 13-3
4. They were picked to do better in the preseason

I completely disagree.

1. AFC, best division in football.
2. Who has GB played?
3. AFC, best division in football.
4. Decision on Garrard alone was huge.  And Jacksonville is the biggest threat of any team to NE right now.

As good as McCarthy did, and he did, I'd take JDR with few reservations.

To each his own I guess.

Dustin - great point.  That took some balls, and was the right move.

That was not a popular decision at the time, and he handled it well, especially with flat out releasing Leftwhich, he wasn't around in Gerard's ear.  Once again, HC is about Management.  That was great Management of a situation.

Sorry, you don't get coach of the year for finishing second.

So, the Packers wouldn't have finished 2nd in the AFC South?

You're right; they might have finished FOURTH!

That would have merit if they played in the AFC South

BB deserved it.  16-0 is a fantastic feat.  Del Rio had a real good year in Jax, he's a great coach.

I meant in the AFC (much better conference) AND (specifically) the best division in football, the AFC South.

Sorry, I don't penalize a coach for being in a MUCH tougher division and conference, and playing MUCH tougher competition.

You might if your team achieved well beyond what anyone could have reasonably expected ...
or if a coach with a better record had been substantially fined for cheating.

I just don't see that as such a ballsy move.  He did what a coach is supposed to do....... play the guy that is better.

I gotta disagree 1st round draft picks at QB are never easy to give up on - especially that early in the career..  It's not like Leftwhich was TJack.  He had a storied college career, was condidered a great leader, and a great arm.

Once again, it's easy now to sit back and say it was the right decision and Gerard is better, but there were a ton of questions about Gerard's ability to handle the position before the season started.  He was a nice QB at East Carolina, but didn't have anywhere near the hype as Leftwhich.
