-- Chambers Fails Six Sobriety Tests, But... -- Tue Jul 17, 2007 The Miami Herald reports although failing six physical and verbal sobriety tests, Dolphins WR Chris Chambers' blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit when he took a Breathalyzer test after being transported to county jail Saturday morning in Charlotte, N.C. Chambers, who was arrested at 2:31 a.m., initially refused to take the test at the scene of the arrest. He later blew an .06 -- which is below the legal limit of .08 in North Carolina -- when he arrived at the jail, a police report said. Chambers was initially pulled over for driving 74 mph in a 45-mph zone. According to the report, the arresting officer said Chambers' eyes were watery and glassy when he approached Chambers' 2004 Audi. The officer also said he detected a strong scent of alcohol, leading to multiple failed physical and verbal tests, the report said. ''I asked Mr. Chambers how much alcohol had he drank [Saturday night] and Mr. Chambers stated he had one drink,'' arresting officer B.D. Blanton wrote in the report. ``I also noticed that his eyes were watery/glassy and that his words were mumbled.'' Although he refused to blow into a Breathalyzer, Chambers agreed to take several other field sobriety tests, which led to his arrest for driving while impaired, as well as the two other charges. Among the administered tests, Blanton wrote that Chambers failed the ''One Leg Stand'' because he ``placed his foot down after only a few seconds then left his foot down and did not try to raise his foot again and complete the test.'' During the ''ABC'' test, the officer instructed Chambers to begin with the letter J and end with W. Blanton wrote that Chambers ``missed letters and got letters out of sequence, among other indicators.'' He was also given a ''Walk and Turn'' test, but Blanton noted Chambers ''kept starting before being told to start.'' He would then ``walk about 15 steps then just stop.'' Multiple messages left with Chambers' agent, Ben Dogra, have not been returned. Chambers also could not be reached, and the Dolphins have refused further comment about the incident. On Saturday, spokesman Harvey Greene said the team was continuing to gather information about the arrest. At Chambers' first arraignment Monday, a court date was set for Aug. 15, when he will have a hearing to decide the case. Some of the drunk test are pretty lame, like the alphabet crapolla... What was the Steve Martin movie where he had to do the sobriety thing? Man With Two Brains or maybe The Jerk? Hilarious whatever one

He would have been screwed if he took a blood test. I am presuming it was also some pills besides being stoned.

-- Dolphins Released Campbell after Arrest on Drug Charges -- Tue Jul 24, 2007 The Sun Sentinel reports former Miami Dolphins WR Kelly Campbell was arrested on drug charges in Atlanta on July 3, which led to his release by the Dolphins two days later. Campbell was charged with possession of marijuana and Ecstasy, both of which are felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of providing false information to Fulton (Ga.) County police officers. Campbell is the fourth Dolphins player to experience legal problems in 2007 and the second released by the team after an arrest. The Dolphins waived DT Fred Evans last month after the defensive tackle allegedly was involved in an altercation with police officers on South Beach. Evans, a promising second-year player expected to push veteran DT Keith Traylor for a starting spot, was on probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge earlier this year in Texas. OLB Joey Porter was cited for misdemeanor battery shortly after signing with the Dolphins in March, punching Cincinnati Bengals OLT Levi Jones in the face at a Las Vegas casino. Porter pleaded no contest and was fined $1,000, but he received a much harsher financial penalty from the NFL. The league fined Porter roughly $141,000, which is the equivalent of three game checks. WR Chris Chambers was arrested July 14 and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding in Charlotte, N.C. Police reports state Chambers failed a field sobriety test, but he registered under the legal limit in a blood-alcohol test administered later. He awaits a Aug. 15 court date. There have been at least 32 documented arrests or criminal indictments of NFL players this offseason, with the Jacksonville Jaguars having the second-highest team total behind the Dolphins with three.

Former Vikings receiver Koren Robinson is currently serving his jail time in the Nicollet County Jail in St. Peter, Minn. He was admitted on July 18th and will be released on August 2nd. The former Vikings receiver was sentenced to 90 days in jail in February. He also violated terms of his probation for a drunken driving offense in Washington State. He served out some of his sentence this past spring in Wisconsin. The probation violation and Minnesota sentence are being served at the same time. It was just under a year ago during Vikings training camp that Robinson was arrested when police say they clocked Robinson at speeds of over 100 miles an hour, and he had a blood alcohol level of .11. Now a member of the Green Bay Packers, he was suspended by the NFL for one year in violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He is eligible to be reinstated no sooner than Sept. 18, 2007.

This maybe is a stupid question but after Koren Robinson has been out that long and in jail is there any real shot that he is ready to go in sept? does green bay have to keep him on active spot on the roster to use him in say oct?

As I understand it, he's out of jail now, having served his time, and working out at some facility out of state. I think the plan is to have him in football shape - but of course the problem is getting him into game playing shape and in synch with his team. I suspect it'll take quite a while before he could be of much help - assuming Goodell allows him to be reinstated.

I don't think they have to have him on the roster at THIS time, but if and when they want to insert him they'd have to take someone else off.
but if he is on the team doesn't he haved to be on roster?
Has he been reinstated yet? They may be able to play a roster game by not asking to reinstate him until a few weeks into the season when he is physically ready to play. If he is already reinstated they have to carry him and cut someone else unless they PUP him.
He isn't eligible to even ASK to be reinstated until the end of September or early October.
Actually Lynn, he has already asked to be reinstated - as reported on NFL Network... and he could play against the Vikes on Sept 30th. Here's the quote: NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports suspended WR Koren Robinson has applied to be reinstated by the league. All indications are that Green Bay is open to having Robinson rejoin the roster when he's eligible. The first date Robinson can return is September 18, which could have him on the team in time for Week 3 versus San Diego.

Then I misunderstood. Didn't he play into October last season? As I understood it - he has to miss 16 games - which would mean he can't be reinstated until at least the anniversary of when his appeal was denied.

With Donald D injured last night, KR could be even more important to us, although reports are DD's injury is not as bad as first thought. Fingers crossed...

-- David Boston Arrested for DUI -- Fri Aug 24, 2007 MyFoxTampaBay.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR David Boston was arrested on charges of driving under the influence on Thursday night in Pinellas County. According to a police report, Boston, 29, was found passed out behind the wheel of his red Range Rover at the intersection of 49th Street and Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park on Thursday night. Pinellas Park police say the car was still running, and it was in drive. When the officer woke Boston, he says Boston told him he was on his way from the Celebration area in Orlando to Tampa International Airport. Boston completed a field sobriety test, and the officer said he had probable cause to believe that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. Boston was arrested just before 10 p.m., and taken to the Pinellas County Jail Central Breath Test Facility in Clearwater. Police say breath tests showed no indication of alcohol, but urine tests are still pending. Boston was released just after 11:00 p.m.

Robinson's appeal rejected Receiver suspended for one year By TOM SILVERSTEIN tsilverstein@journalsentinel.com Posted: Oct. 17, 2006 Signing wide receiver Koren Robinson was a calculated gamble the Green Bay Packers were willing to take even if the risk far outweighed the reward. On Tuesday, hours after he pleaded not guilty to drunken driving and fleeing police charges in a St. Peter, Minn., courtroom, the reward was snatched away: Robinson was told his appeal of a one-year suspension levied by the National Football League had been rejected. Tom Silverstein/JSOnline need to do their homework. Wishing it so don't make it so. There are no procedural differences between appealing 4/8/16 game suspensions, and appeals generally take at least a month (even this article states that). Under the "the suspension is already in effect even while you are appealing and still playing in the games and getting paid" logic, a 4 game suspension would in reality be no suspension at all, an 8 gamer would be at most 4 games etc... That just ain't the case. 2. Effect of Pendency of Appeal. A fine or suspension that has been timely appealed shall not take effect until completion of the player’s appeal. However, the pendency of a grievance or appeal shall not excuse a player from compliance with any other aspect of the Policy. http://nflpa.org/pdfs/RulesAndRegs/Drug_Policy_2007.pdf

Clearly, Briggs not very clear Linebacker's statement about crash raises more questions than it answers David Haugh | On the Bears 11:27 PM CDT, August 28, 2007 As Lance Briggs addressed the media Tuesday for the first time this preseason, coach Lovie Smith leaned a little closer to the circle of reporters surrounding the linebacker to overhear what was being said. Smith probably felt like covering his ears. Give the linebacker credit for wanting to speak publicly about his one-car crash Monday morning on the Edens Expressway that resulted in a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of accident and two traffic citations—and could have been tragically worse. But Briggs' rambling 2-minute-35-second statement raised more questions than it answered. He may have sought to set the record straight but only made it seem more crooked. The normally smooth Briggs sounded so rattled by the events of the previous 48 hours that he mistakenly referred to the incident happening "Sunday morning." Police discovered his badly damaged $350,000 Lamborghini at 3:14 a.m. Monday. "When it happened, the first thing I did was I panicked," Briggs said. "I didn't want there to be a big scene there, so when I left I called a tow truck. I also was startled and called and reported my car stolen. Within 10 minutes, I called and took responsibility for what I did because it was ridiculous in the first place." Briggs' admission that he first lied by reporting his car stolen suggested a premeditated response to the accident more than a panicked one. Besides committing a crime by doing so, falsely reporting a stolen vehicle implies Briggs considered the ramifications of being so forthcoming with authorities. A guy with nothing to fear or lose doesn't instinctively lie to police. Fleeing a crash scene because of shock might be more believable if a whopper of a fib didn't follow that alibi. That disclosure put Briggs' episode back under the microscope for another day of scrutiny. Are the Bears still OK with taking no disciplinary action against a player who admits lying to police before quickly realizing the need to tell the truth? Will that confession pique the interest of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell more than the Class A misdemeanor with which Briggs is charged? Where was super agent Drew Rosenhaus on Tuesday? Rosenhaus found every microphone imaginable in the off-season crafting the public relations assault on the Bears during Briggs' contract dispute, but where was he when his client could have used some of that trademark savvy? How do the Bears let Briggs clumsily explain himself without better PR coaching? This was no way to pass a course in crisis management. "Lance wanted to come out here [and] that was his plan all along," Smith said. "Lance isn't a guy who's trying to run from anything. [He] told us what happened and he's going to face the consequences if there are any from there." Smith's heart was in the right place in defending his player but, in fact, Briggs was a guy who ran away—maybe not from a pulling guard but from an accident scene. Just a week ago Briggs was doing a photo shoot in his driveway posing with a bottle of champagne and his new car. Tuesday, there he was, the picture of doubt and suspicion. If all Briggs was going to do was apologize to teammates and incriminate himself before cutting off questions and walking away, he actually might have been better off maintaining his media boycott. He was a more sympathetic figure when he was a Bears player who survived a horrific car crash and not a Bears player who survived a horrific car crash and claimed somebody stole his car. Acknowledging that lie only raised more suspicions about his sobriety that Briggs didn't address. "I lost control of my car, and to all the fans and all the people of Chicago who are concerned, I am OK," Briggs said. "I am OK. My car's not OK but I am. All that stuff will be taken care of in due time. There's not a whole lot more to it." Even if you believe there indeed is more to it and his explanation doesn't pass the smell test, it doesn't matter. The only person who Briggs has to answer to is Smith, the lone organizational spokesman on this matter who practices situational ethics like most NFL head coaches. A day after objecting strongly to the suggestion alcohol was involved, Smith said he had no knowledge of TV reports that placed Briggs inside Chicago nightspots before he wrecked his car. "Hearsay, I don't go on a lot of that," Smith said. "The facts haven't come out to me that way." Maybe they never will. Smith hoped Briggs addressing the matter would put an end to the distraction but said he didn't force his star linebacker to make a public statement. Apparently, Briggs had grown concerned over having drawn his teammates into the controversy. Commend him for that. "I just want to take this moment right now to say I'm sorry to my teammates because it's unfair for them. They shouldn't have to go through this and be questioned for something they had nothing to do with," Briggs said. "And also my coaches and family." Before he could escape the scrum around him, Briggs did answer one question about how the crash affected him. "It did change me, absolutely," Briggs said. "I'm very lucky to make out the way I did. You appreciate every day. The first thing I did was hug all my teammates and told them that I love them. Because you never know what's going to happen." What happens now is the Bears go back to the business of winning the NFC and Briggs returns to the field, where his collisions are welcome. dhaugh@tribune.com

This will be interesting to see how the NFL deals with it. Are they serious about enforcing conduct? Or is the real agenda "Don't get caught". Cuz if it is, Briggs did the right thing running away, and if Lovie's attitude is mirrored by the NFL's, they will have just sent a loud and clear message to their players. Obstruct justice, lie, run, heck, even drink or do drugs.... just make sure they can't prove anything and you'll be ok.

-- Baugher Upset over Release -- Wed Sep 5, 2007 The Boston Herald reports ex-Patriots P Danny Baugher has been charged with slugging his father after being dropped from the team. Erle Baugher, 54, his left eye red and swollen where his allegedly drunken son Danny apparently socked him during a dust-up in a deserted Hanover parking lot Thursday, told a cop the young man "was released by the New England Patriots yesterday (August 29) and he was not handling it very well," according to a police report.

Damn, and to think. The fans of the Patriots now probably consider him one of their own. A fan favorite even. Bad timing on his release.

-- Leigh Bodden Arrested -- Wed Sep 5, 2007 Fox 8 News reports Cleveland Browns CB Leigh Bodden has been arrested outside of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. According to Cleveland Police Lt. Thomas Stacho, Bodden was taken into custody at 6:30 p.m. and was charged with aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Cleveland Hopkins Director Fred Szabo tells Fox 8 News Bodden was taken into custody outside the pick-up area in the lower deck of Hopkins after parking his vehicle in a restricted area. After being asked to remove his vehicle from the restricted area, Bodden became involved in a verbal argument with police. According to Stacho, Bodden was driving his vehicle the wrong way in the pick-up area and was stopped by officers and told to turn his vehicle around and drive with the flow of traffic. After turning the vehicle and driving in the correct direction, Bodden then proceeded to park his vehicle in a restricted area. Stacho says officers told Bodden to move his vehicle and after several minutes the incident escalated to the point where officers attempted to place Bodden under arrest. According to Stacho, Bodden resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

-- Thurman Remains on Probation for a Drunken Driving Conviction -- Wed Sep 5, 2007 AP a judge ruled on Wednesday that suspended Cincinnati Bengals MLB Odell Thurman can remain on probation for a drunken driving conviction, but warned him that he must follow the rules if he wants to stay there. "It's between you and (your probation officer) whether you see my ugly face again," Hamilton County Municipal Judge John Burlew said. Thurman, 24, was put on probation for two years in June after Burlew gave him a suspended 90-day jail sentence and ordered him to serve six days in a treatment center. Thurman pleaded no contest and was convicted in February following his arrest a year ago. Thurman had to return to court after a probation officer said he missed a meeting. He also was accused of not seeking treatment. Burlew noted Wednesday that Thurman has since sought treatment and again warned Thurman about the dangers of alcohol, but complimented him on how well he was doing with sobriety. Thurman was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of last season because he skipped a drug test. It was extended to the full season after the arrest for drunken driving. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell denied Thurman's request for reinstatement for this season. Thurman is one of 10 Bengals arrested over a 14-month span. WR Chris Henry was suspended by Goodell for the first eight games of the 2007 season for repeatedly violating the league's conduct policy.
