Not saying we should draft him.  and there are things in this video that concern me...but a couple things that would make it so I am not unhappy with Derek Carr.  First, he has a quick release...second, there are several throws into tight coverage on this video.  He's not afraid to throw the ball to someone with a defensive back all over him...

Ponder fears making mistakes.  Carr doesn't fear making tough throws.

Wow, sorry Scott, but that might be the laimest QB highlight video I've ever seen put together. Unless you like watching his celebration dances, or dump off passes, and a few jump ball type throws down the field, and what really got me was they actually showed him handing the ball off numerous times

Saw almost zero deep out route throws into tight windows. Sorry I did stop watching at about the 7 minute mark... Couldn't take the lack of useful analysis clips.

He may very well have everything you want, but you won't find it in this video.

Not might. Is. Literally I watched more than 2 minutes, saw three plays (which were unimpressive) and about 50 shots of him walking out of the lockerroom, standing in mist, handing the ball to the refs, clapping his hands. Then the clips started, and they were mostly him being flushed from the pocket, handing the ball off to a back (wtf kind of highlight is that for a QB?!?!)

I liked Carr more when I was just looking at the stats and reading scouting breakdowns. Seeing actual 'highlights' makes me like him less. I would be seriously depressed if this is the Viking QB of the future. Watching unimpressive plays, and then seeing the opponents who are nothing is underwhelming to say the least.

Absolutely horrible throwing mechanics. He falls backwards on every single throw. I want nothing to do with this guy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkyK4bLS_as

If you google him his girlfriend gets more attention then his QB play.

I'm not seeing the same thing you are.

Watched this video and it doesn't look like he's falling backwards ever.
Makes throws into coverage, which is something Ponder doesn't do.

That being said, today is the first time I've heard of him.  He's the kind of guy you draft in the 4th round or lower and hope you catch fire.

It's more of a fall to the left because of his throwing motion. It looks weird.

That guy sucks and you're right, his mechanics are utter shite. This can't be a good QB draft. Most of the QBs I check out look like they are mediocre or outright blow. I see now why Manziel looks good to some people.

Not me, I've been saying this for awhile, none of them are that impressive. Bridgewater and Mariotta are the only two I'd compare to the 'top' QBs in recent drafts, and not on their level.

What don't you like about Carr?  I'm just curious.  He seems to have all the tools.....do you think he doesn't project well in the pro game?  I'd take him over Ponder right now!!!  Plus, once Bridgewater is off the board, I think its a crap shoot at best.

He has had a late, meteoric rise

Reminds me of Akili Smith

Tough to judge a QB by his highlight reel. I'm pretty sure Fresno St will be playing in a bowl game. I will be tuning in so that I can better judge him.

Just tried watching it

COuldn't finish

It looks a like a combo rap video/man on man love story

complete bullshit video

When you finally get around to seeing some throws most of them are aimed and weak

complete crap

Brad is the one who brought up Carr's name as a potential QBOTF

Far as I know Brad might be the only poster who has seen a Fresno St game this year

If anyone else has seen Carr play other than watching the highlight reel your input would be appreciated.

I don't think we should throw the baby out with the bath water just yet JC.
Carr is supposed to have well above average arm strength. Although the music in his reel is extremely obnoxious I thought he displayed good arm strength, accuracy, and running ability

It's possible she is the worst 'highlight' evaluator of all time. But he displayed average arm strength, decent accuracy and normal running ability. Against complete crap opponents, in plays deemed as his 'best'. Very scary 'highlight' reel to me, at least for someone you're considering taking top 10. That reel was indicative of a 3rd round pick maybe.

It's not often I get bored and shut off a highlight video but this was one of those cases.

I like his leadership abilities and little else.

My God it's like the world is conspiring to put up the shittiest highlight reels of this cat ever.

Carr highlights

You can literally jump to 1:30 and you won't miss a single real highlight. His fans just love watching him clap his hands and jump up and down. Once they start, you at least get to see some plays that qualify as highlights. Few plays that are noteworthy, but at least a couple that are impressive.

More 'highlights'

This one only takes 30-40 seconds of the clapping and shit, and shows real plays once that shit is over. The play at 2:30 is very nice, and he has a couple more 'real highlights'. Seems ok, until you consider these are coming against truly terrible opponents (in terms of NFL talent level). Here's the thing... This guy has a ton of touchdowns and yards, but very few of these plays are that impressive. I really get the feeling he's whooped up on shitty opponents. And he does not seem like a very dynamic runner. Good enough to get away against guys that will never play in the NFL, but he's going to get crushed running in the NFL, much like his first run here. Also don't like that on most of his deep balls, the receiver has the (terrible) defender burned, and has to slow down or stop for the ball to get there.

Very Tebow-like in the praise of him

I don't give a shit about him high 5ing teammates

Can he stand and deliver strikes?

Joe Montana wasn't one to run up and down the sidelines smacking people on the butt

But he delivered

The music was so painful I had to mute the sound

But the freakin poses of him like he is a cult leader made me hit stop

Anybody can make a highlight reel - except me of course. I'm not going to watch it but it doesn't sound like something the team put out to increase his draft stock.

That's a fan highlight reel, just like most highlight reels you see on social media. Every single one of them is designed to pay homage to that player, whether its his skill, productivity, statistics, heroism or intangibles.

There is very little to be learned from them becuz the one thing they all have in common is they always showcase the player's strengths and never ever his weaknesses (unless they are naturally apparent).

As far as him "whooping up on shitty opponents" its not like he isn't the first qb to come from a weak conference and be NFL worthy.

Steve McNair
Big Ben
Joe Flacco

Just to name a few that came from second rate schools

His brother was the biggest bust this side of JeMarcus

Want not part of Carr

yeah, he shouldn't be guilty by association with this stiff brother but I would really need to see evidence to the contrary

I certainly am not annoiting him as the guy. I'm just not closing the door until I watch him first hand. To me, he seems to have some intangibles that a good qb should.

Experts have raved about his arm and that he is a qb that will be playing on Sundays.

Like I said I need to see more to actually make a determination.

He's on pace to break some of Daunte's UCF records.

He's been getting a lot of hype lately. I even read some scouting reports having him the #1 QB in this draft.
Apparently he told O'Leary, just a couple of weeks ago, that he wasn't ready for the NFL yet. So maybe he doesn't declare.
If he finds out that he really has a legit shot at being the first QB drafted, I'm sure he'll declare. He certainly won't be the first QB drafted in the following year.

Personally, I'm not as impressed with him as others. Watched him a handful of times this season and a few last year.
He has stacked the stat sheet in a weak conference (same could be said for Bridgewater) and has struggled against good teams.
The other side of that is that he really doesn't have high quality skill position players around him.
He is pretty athletic and he is accurate, but I haven't really seen this cannon arm that people say he has.

Looked very average today, albeit in not ideal weather conditions. In fact, Neal Burcham (SMU's Freshman backup) outplayed him today.

He has ridiculous stats in a defenseless conference. He had crazy numbers last week, yet David Fales outplayed him and got the W.

He does have one thing his brother didn't. He gets rid of the ball quickly.

Watch him late tonight against Utah St. for the conference championship.

I'm sure he will get an invite to Mobile for the Senior Bowl. Will be interesting to hear what NFL coaches have to say about him.

I'm on the fence on him. He's listed at 6'-3" but I heard somebody on the Game Day crew say that is a very, very generous listing.

With the caveat that if the plays designed to showcase his strengths and not weaknesses doesn't showcase much and shows a fair amount of weakness. That's not a good sign.

This kid, Dorial Green-Beckham, WR from Mizzou is real. Too bad WR isn't as high on the priority list in the draft, or at least doesn't seem to be.
