Yep. I think we're winners either way this week. Either we lose out and get a higher draft pick, or we COULD knock the Tiggers out of the playoffs. Won't happen, but man it would be glorious.

whoa whoa whoa

I watched it earlier this morning and felt pretty much nothing, except I thought it was pretty cool when the kids got so excited to meet a player that had a run of good years 10-15 years before they were born.

I've always liked him.
Dustin handled his hate with class
Matt and TGs, not so much.

Wait....what?

I didn't handle my hate with class?

Because I didn't tear up from a youtube video?

I respect the guy. Just don't make him all world.

So David St Peter isn't the only idiot in MLB when it comes to unwise PR moves...

Is 2015 suppose to have a good class of draft picks?

A good article on how the Pirates are using sabermetrics:

Decent. Brady Aiken, the stud lefty pitcher the Astros failed to sign, for one.

I think we have to get to at least the 3rd pick (2nd worst record) to get Aiken if we want him. Houston will surely pass on him at 2; if nothing else from pressure from MLB. And whoever's first probably won't take him there just because of the signing risk/backlash.

Of course, a lot can happen between now and next June. He could get hurt by then, other guys could emerge, etc. Will be interesting to see.

Good stuff. Our dinosaur organization needs to get a clue. All of the best organizations in baseball are using advanced stats to help get to where they are.

And the dude's not quite 40 yet and just "got it" a few years ago (RIGHT after he left us, coincidentally). He'll be pitching another 5-6 years probably.

Last October, despite some questions about his ability, Cuban slugger Jose Abreu signed a six-year, $68MM contract with the White Sox heading into his age-27 season. Abreu’s MLB debut exceeded the most optimistic expectations, and now another Cuban player known for huge power is about to burst on the scene: Yasmany Tomas. Tomas, just 24 in November, defected from Cuba in June and should be granted MLB free agency shortly. He’s a right-handed-hitting corner outfielder with five years in Cuba’s Serie Nacional under his belt, and that experience, paired with his age, makes him exempt from international spending limitations. Teams will be able to spend whatever they wish to sign him.

Tomas’ agent Jay Alou told Jorge Ebro of El Nuevo Herald in early September that he expects to top the record contract for a Cuban player, which is Rusney Castillo’s seven-year, $72.5MM deal with the Red Sox signed in August.

And of course, the Twins aren't mentioned. At all.

So the playoff races are basically all over but the seeding. Was really hoping for more dramatics this year.

Always was a fan. But I'm not sure I see it ending well, Ed. So little experience for the job. Still can't help but be better than ours, however. Sadly.

Figured no one else would talk about Jeters magical ending tonight.
Of course he just did that.
Just like he usually did.
Guy has been something else. Baseballs gonna miss him.
Eat it, Olbermann. And choke on it.

And some, kiddingly, think Meek grooved a pitch for him. Adam Wainwright was mentioned.

He sure was lucky to always be matched up (in those big situations) ... against guys who grooved pitches to him.

If I read the story correctly, his first walk-off in 7 years at Yankee stadium. Mauer-esque

or is Mauer Jeter-esque?

The most amazing Jeter story.....first game he has played in Yankee stadium where they were already out of any playoff race/chance.
