The Brewers' stadium isn't horrible. It's pretty nice other than the fact that it's a retractable one. Which brings me to point B. Baseball was meant to be played outdoors. MLB just needs to be smarter about scheduling. But I'm not sure there's anything I'd change about Target Field. It's a wonderful stadium, top 5 in the sport IMO. No way do I ever want to go back to the days of a dome for baseball, or even a retractable one. And no way should MLB baseball ever be played in a football stadium. The sightlines just don't work for both. Never have. Never will. It's why there's only 1 of them left in the country, in Oakland. And that's only because MLB keeps screwing the A's over re: the Giants. They should have been playing baseball in Fremont almost a decade ago now.

On Lucroy, still sign me up. I'd try to package Suzuki and Ryan to them plus 1-2 pitching prospects. He's a perfect fit. I'm resigned to the fact the Twins won't though. But some team's going to get a very solid catcher; I'm guessing the Dodgers?

Trade Terry Ryan to the Brewers? I'm all for it!

Did you mean John Ryan Murphy?

You must like Terry Ryan if you not only want him leading your other favorite team, but also living in your general vicinity.

Not really. I love the Outlaws. I like the Eagles. Kind of like the Twins and the Brewers. The Brewers could go 0-162 and I'd barely notice. If the Twins were that bad I'd go postal.

Baseball is rewarding mediocrity with these foolish contracts.

I get they're swimming in cash. Make better use of it to reward the grunts trying to get through the system, trying to make a living.

Or...lower ticket prices and allow more fans to attend games? Players really don't need to make $20-30 million a year when they are just not that good.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday that he would like to be traded to a contender.

The Brewers are in full rebuilding mode under new general manager David Stearns, and Lucroy told the newspaper that he wants to play for a winner.

"I'm not going to sit here and say we're going to compete for the playoffs this year," Lucroy told the newspaper in a telephone interview. "If I did that, you'd call me a liar. I'd lose credibility and respect. I want to win, and I don't see us winning in the foreseeable future. I want to go to a World Series. That's what all players want. Rebuilding is not a lot of fun for any veteran guy."

Sterns has traded closer Francisco Rodriguez to the Tigers and first baseman Adam Lind to the Mariners this offseason after the team finished 68-94 last season.

Lucroy, 29, is scheduled to make $4 million next season, while the Brewers hold a $5.25 million club option on the catcher for 2017.

With his birthday coming in June, Lucroy wants to win sooner rather than later.

"It's not guaranteed that I'm going to win if I am traded, but I'm going to be a 30-year-old catcher," he said. "I can't put numbers on how much longer I'm going to play, but as players, we want to win. I don't care about the money. I just want to win. That's the bottom line."

Lucroy made it clear he isn't demanding to be traded, and if he's with the Brewers next season, he vows to give the team his all.

"If I stay with the Brewers, I'm not going to go out and dog it," he told the newspaper. "I'm not going to be a bad teammate. I'm not going to be a bad clubhouse guy. I'm not going to be bitter. It's just part of the game."

Lucroy was an All-Star in 2014, when he posted a .301 batting average and hit an NL-best 53 doubles, 13 home runs and 69 RBIs. A broken toe and concussion limited him to just 103 games last season, when he batted .264 with seven homers and 43 RBIs.

He told the Journal Sentinel he has "been getting after it" in offseason workouts and is "a lot stronger than I've been in a long time."

"I have a chip on my shoulder, and I plan on going out and showing people I'm perfectly fine," he told the newspaper.

Are the Twins considered a contender?

There are getting to be far too many mega-millionaires in MLB. And many, as you mentioned, simply are not that good. They are decent roster fillers but certainly not marquee players. Being rewarded for mediocrity is becoming commonplace in MLB. And yes, they could certainly reduce ticket prices so the venue was affordable to more folks.

The Mets have reached agreement on a deal with outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, pending physical, according to multiple reports. He’ll earn $75MM over three years and can opt out after one season, per reports, at which time he’ll have earned $27.5MM. The contract is said to include a full no-trade clause.

What is the purpose of signing a player with a one-year opt-out clause? Why do they treat these players like they are gods? I don't get it at all?

Look for him to pull a Greinke.

If the Mets end up having a down year and fall out of the race what motivation does this guy have? What loyalty does he have to his employer?
He can just decide..."To Hell with this situation!" at any point during the season.

I really don't care what it was like in the 50s and 60s. The pendulum has swung so far in favor of the player it is obscene.

Yes, back to the 60's! Let's look into slavery again too....

Again, do you also complain about what the biggest musicians and actors/actresses make? Or do you ever think about the BILLIONS that the owners are making too? It's a very scarce field and something that a LOT of people are paying to see. Do the math.

Dustin, there are not that many actors and actresses that make the kind of money that ML baseball players make these days. Remember that a big screen movie actor/actress does maybe one film every other year-if that. Some of the big icons of the old Universal Studios, MGM, Warner Bros. etc., of the period from the 1930's-1960's often were featured in two or even as many as four films in a single year, but that was only because their movies sold tickets and made money; most of which was made by the production Company. Today, most actors and actresses probably make more money in cameo appearances at various venues, talk-shows, and as models for clothing, perfume/makeup companies, and spokespersons for various products as ad agents. When they receive a $25-$30 million salary for a movie contract, it may be the only movie they do for three or four years running. And the group of actors that demand that kind of money is a very short list. You are really comparing apples to oranges with your baseball salaries comparison.

Really? Most of the big actors/actresses do 1 movie every 3-4 years? Like who? There may be a couple, ya. But the vast majority of them are still working regularly.

And there are tons of musicians making big money.

How many "big money" baseball players are there? There's like 20-30 guys making more than $20M/year. Ditto for the other sports. And I bet there are about the same number of musicians making that. And about the same number of actors/actresses making that. Not to mention others associated with those industries. How much does Jerry Seinfeld make per year? How about Larry David? How about Ricky Gervais? The list goes on and on.

And again, the comparison is completely valid. Both are ENTERTAINMENT industries. The owners are making hundreds of millions and in some cases billions off of the same thing; I don't see you complaining about that. As long as there is a scarce resource that people enjoy, those with the talent to provide that resource are going to get paid handsomely. That's just the way the world works.

Three MLB stars out of Caribbean HR derby

David Ortiz, Robinson Cano and Miguel Cabrera won't be in the Caribbean Series Home Run Derby, as previously scheduled, because the MLBPA is forbidding it. Retired MLB star Vlad Guerrero and Cuban phenom Alfredo Despaigne are still scheduled to participate Wednesday.

Kind of ridiculous to forbid it. They're acting like the NFL all of a sudden.

Toronto announced a plan Wednesday to eschew its turf infield for dirt. Whether the entire artificial turf will be replaced for grass at some point is unknown. The Jays and Rays are the only MLB teams who play on artificial surfaces.

Btw .... for the 17,972nd time ..... thank you so much Twins, for going back to outdoor baseball.

Pretty sure you have an extra vowel or two in there.

Twins messed that up

The D-backs have signed right-hander Tyler Clippard to a two-year, $12.25MM contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Clippard is represented by Excel Sports Management. Rosenthal further tweets that the deal is official (though the team has not announced the move just yet) and will give Clippard a $4MM signing bonus plus salaries of $4.1MM and $4.15MM in the next two seasons, respectively. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported earlier today that the two sides had made progress on a deal, and ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick later added that an agreement was close.

I'm more of a Clippard fan, vs any other guy they use in the bullpen after Jepsen(not counting May; he should be a starter).
