The Tigers have placed right-hander Jordan Zimmermann on the 15-day DL due to a strained neck, the team announced (via Twitter). Anibal Sanchez will take Zimmermann’s next scheduled start, while Dustin Molleken has been called up from Triple-A to round out the bullpen.

The Indians have announced a host of pitching moves, with the club clearing roster space by designating righty Joba Chamberlain and lefty Tom Gorzelanny.
They’ll be replaced by southpaw T.J. House and righty Mike Clevinger.

Chamberlain, 30, had been generating results for Cleveland after signing a $1MM deal in the offseason. He owns a 2.25 ERA over twenty frames, with 8.1 K/9 against 5.0 BB/9 and a 52.9% groundball rate.
The veteran is still working with an average fastball of over 93 mph, and ought to draw some interest — particularly given the cheap salary.

Rumors say the Cubs are close to acquiring Chapman form the Yanks.
This whole "really good teams do all they can to get even better" thing is something we just don't get here, never have, never will.

LOL

So true.

When it came to crunch time to get better, who did the Twins get?

Guys like

Capps
Boone

One of the last MEANINGFUL additions in mid-season trades? Nope, not Stewart, though he was helpful.

Don Baylor.

WHen they needed to deal for help last decade? They traded the 2nd baseman away for Drew Butera, instead of improving.

Not Pavano, even though he helped them win. Just not win enough.

Don Baylor. Vet PResence helped win it all in 87

Rockies on the hook for $39 million for Jose Reyes, calling him up tomorrow means Mets will only pay $250,617 for rest of season

Funny how Jeff's not around now to tell us how stupid we all are and how great that trade for Capps was.

Good stuff Ed
Loved the Baylor addition.
But such a minor addition, when you look at how hard some of these contending teams upgrade.

We've been on that for years around here ... but our teams just don't get it.
The Wild ... many moons ago, they go get Parise and Suter, and then sat and expected the wins to roll in. While most of us screamed at them to do more.
The M and M years here, we all saw that window slamming and yelled, and the management just sat around and smiled. "Two Mvps, what more could we ask for" ....
Same will probably happen with the Vikes again ... will end every year saying "this part of our team is great, this part of our team is not good enough", like we can't do anything about it ....

The land of self-imposed salary caps and muted expectations.

I guess we aren't the only team putting up weird numbers ...
Indians are about to go 10-0 vs the Tigers this year.
Makes no sense.

Chris Sale already has 14 wins at the halfway point of the season. Pretty amazing.

Even more amazing....the Twins owned him last season.

Back in the day, at least one pitcher from each league would usually have 15 or 16 wins at the All Star break. Of course, most teams had a four-man rotation. To this day, I do not understand why they felt the need to coddle pitchers and add a fifth man to a rotation. They have fewer teams forty years ago, and four pitchers were enough for a rotation. It kept the quality of starting pitching much higher. Today, there are probably only two legitimate starting pitchers on many rosters. The good teams have three and a couple have four. Nearly every roster struggles to find a consistent fifth starting pithcher. And to keep a five-man rotation for more than two consecutive seasons is the pure definition of impossible! Pitchers get routinely injured, they file for free agency, they have a turd season, they have season-ending surgery that often lasts for two seasons to recover, and/or they get traded. In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason they should not return to a four-man rotation, especially considering the ridiculous amount of money they throw at pitchers in long-term guaranteed contracts. Earn your damn money for cripes sake!

For the first time, I felt the magic of Vin Scully last night. The Dodgers were on ESPN. I had the game on. Wasn't really watching. Just kind of drifting in and out of sleep. His voice was soothing. I feel bad I've missed out on him all these years. That's baseball to me. That's why baseball, above all other sports, is a sport made for radio.

The last few years I should have been listening to one Vin Scully game a week and appreciated his legend. Probably the last of the old greats. A throwback to when the game was still great and not ruined by money and guaranteed contracts.

Agree on Scully
Its like the game is a movie being narrated by Morgan Freeman.
It flows differently than what we are used to.
The guys a true legend, imo.

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang is being investigated by Chicago police over an allegation of sexual assault.

Kang has not been charged with a crime. He is considered a "person of interest" in this investigation, which is still in the information-gathering and evidence collection phase.

The Pirates said in a statement Tuesday that they were aware of the allegation.

"We take allegations of this type extremely seriously," said team president Frank Coonelly. "As a result of the ongoing police investigation, we cannot comment further at this time. We have also advised our staff and our players that they should not comment on the matter either."

The team said it would cooperate with the commissioner's office in the matter.

A 23-year-old woman alleges she was sexually assaulted by Kang, 29, on June 17, when the Pirates were in Chicago to play the Cubs, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told ESPN.

Reports of Giancarlo Stantons early demise ... were incorrect.

Stanton swinging for the upper deck

■Two-run HR in the 7th inning
■Three-run HR in the 8th inning
Not a bad night at work for Giancarlo Stanton.

Like we've been sayin ....

The most remarkable aspect so far of the 2016 season may be the Indians going 11-0 so far against the Tigers after winning 12-1 tonight. If we hypothesize that these teams are otherwise equal (Detroit's winning percentage when not playing the Indians is over .600), the odds of one team winning 11 in a row over the other would be .00049 percent. In other words, very low. Crazy.

Cue the Rod Serling music .... weird
