Also love it when Jeter gets a bunch of love from the Angel fans ... then hits a dinger on his way out.
Dudes lived a charmed life. That he's busted his ass for. And deserved.

(duckin and dodgin)

It so makes sense that all the Biebers are in love with Jeter.

(think that'll get 'em going?)

It's their one redeeming quality

How about dem Rockies?
Ripping it up!
A dozen guys hitting over .280
Tulos hitting .414
Also pitching well. Glad to see some different teams doing well.
Innovative young leaders in some places, while we spin our wheels with retreads.

That Rockies team is stacked. They still need some pitching, but...

Can't wait to see 'em in a few weeks.

You guys ok with weaver asking out of the game after loading the bases for the Angels?
Felt it was best for team to go to the pen.
I'd imagine some old timers will hyperventilate at the news.
I'm ok with it.
And it worked out.

OUCH

The Miami Marlins believe ace Jose Fernandez will need season-ending elbow surgery, according to NL sources.
Fernandez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow earlier Monday, manager Mike Redmond announced. Fernandez will return to Miami for further evaluation as the Marlins await more results from today's MRI in Los Angeles.

Matt Harvey and Stephen Strasburg are other All-Stars who have had the ligament transplant operation that can take 12 to 18 months for recovery."That's probably what everyone is going to talk about and continue to talk about," Redmond said. "We've protected him. We've been consistent in how we've used him, with his workload. We've given him extra days. That's a question I don't think anybody has the answer to."
Fernandez, 21, is 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA in eight starts this season. He leads all of the majors with 70 strikeouts.
However, he was roughed up during his last outing against the San Diego Padres Friday night. Fernandez gave up six runs in five innings, including two home runs.
Fernandez's fastball averaged 94.6 mph over his first four innings against the Padres, but only 90.7 mph over his last two, according to ESPN's Stats & Information. He allowed four runs in the sixth inning before being removed with nobody out.
"I think you're always concerned when you're talking about elbows," Rendon said. "That's something we have to wait to find out. But I think we're always concerned about that with pitchers, especially."
Last season Fernandez made 28 starts, going 12-6 with a major league-best .182 opponents' batting average. His 2.19 ERA was second in the majors behind three-time defending ERA champ Clayton Kershaw. Fernandez struck out 187 batters and was named National League Rookie of the Year.
The Marlins recalled left-hander Dan Jennings from Triple-A New Orleans. He made 79 relief appearances for the Marlins over the previous three seasons, going 3-5 with a 2.96 ERA.

It's time to massively re-evaluate how we handle pitchers. This is not good for the game. Think of all the stud pitchers going down at an alarming rate. Fernandez and Kershaw are the two best in the game. Then you have other young studs like Moore, Harvey, etc. with issues. We gotta figure out some solutions to these issues; starts from a very young age.

Yup, another young star pitcher to go under the knife. It's an epidemic. At some point someone has to realize this limited pitch count stuff isn't solving anything. Pitchers in the 60's 70s 80s and 90s were much less susceptible to injury and they pitched until they couldn't get guys out...not until the clicker hit 90 or 100.

Certainly appears something is seriously wrong with the way its being done now.
Its so disappointing to see almost every young arm undergo this.

Year-round ball in warmer climates.

Way too much usage too young.

I think it's the 100 pitch count curse.

Agreed. That's the biggest issue IMO. Whenever I have a son, if he's a pitcher, he won't be throwing year round. If that costs him a spot here or there on a team, so be it.

As 11-14 year olds.

Dang straight. And too many kids are throwing curveballs, or TRYING TO(bigger problem) in that age range.

The hitters at that age can hit heaters, not many can hit curves. And where I've been watching, the kids start screwing around with the curveball much too young.

I agree that pitch counts aren't necessarily the way to go. Throw until you're tired, like working out. But I think the bigger issues are overuse at a young age, like Ed says, and us just not understanding the science enough of keeping those ligaments strong. There has to be a better way.

This honestly is the best era of pitching in the history of the game, by far. You have teams (not the Twins) with half a dozen guys throwing upper 90's with stuff. Guys clocking pitches at 103-106 mph. Yet the vast majority of these guys are getting major injuries. We've got to solve it. And soon.

Yep. Throw a fastball and "maybe" perfect a changeup. Nothing else before you're 17-18.

I'd simply ask blyleven, ryan, seaver, viola, dave Stewart, Palmer, Maddox, and glaring what they did before, during and after a season (when they were kids, young adults, and older adults) and stick with that.
